It really depends on the setting and story, can the audience be expected to be familiar with the the setting and occupation the hero finds himself in? If not you'd probably want to consider an inexperienced protagonist. For example the Wolf of Wall street starts with DiCaprio's introduction to the financial world since the audience is probably unfamiliar with it.
