True true. But do you feel like alot less males make laugh then dont? You opinion Is correct however If feel about it since its your opinion but I like to hear other peoples perspectives so I dont turn into someone very arrant and un witty. Enlighten me if you will.

Allow me to clarify my position. It is in my experience that not very many people are funny. Of course, humor is very subjective, and is also not dependent on gender. However, if we are using comedians as a measurement of humour, then crossdressers are the most hilarious of all. Eddie Izzard is the best, in my opinion.

Women are usually less funny than men are, in my experience. I understand what you mean, OP.

When I think of funny guys I think of Louis CK and George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg and so on. To be honest, the only woman I can think of that I find funny is Tina Fey. I tried really hard to like Kathy Griffin but wound up hating everything about her.

I've always found most female comedians funny: certainly no less likely to be funny than males one. Heck, I even enjoy Jo Brand (look for her on youtube if you don't know her, a lot of her jokes are men bashing) and I'm a guy.
I spent this summer performing with a stand up troupe that included 3 women (all of whom were great) at the Edinburgh Fringe; indeed, the best comedian in the troupe is probably one of them. I'm afraid my experience doesn't tally at all with all of your's.

For me it is all the same. I like some male comedians, and some female. In my country, there are some pretty hilarious female ones. And no, I am not just saying that because I am a girl: the female comedians I am talking about don't even mention menopause, tea or anything girl-related. Could it be, though, that there are more male comedians than females, and the few that are in fact females, only make joke on men's expense and menopause?

Ok lol you make a good point. But i didn't say they only talk about periods and menopause and drink tea. I said thats how I feel when I watch it. Its vast exaggeration of how it truly is but I only ment it as a joke.

Is it then that the female comedians target specifically the females in their audience, perhaps not with their jokes, but with how the audience can relate to it? *considers* Not entirely sure if that made sense or not.

In my country it seems like more female comedians than men have their own shows (now, I can be wrong here, I am just saying it seems like it to me) and these appeal to both male and female... Observations of both genders roaring with laughter have been made

There are a lot of women who have a good sense of humour, if that's what you mean. I have watched a few funny stand-up female comedians but most of them are a big dose of boredom.

Well... there seems to be a divide in humor between most men and women. Of course there are some women i find funny... But overall in average? Not so much.

Neither men or women are mostly funny. Genuinely funny people are extremely rare. But from what I've seen, both men and women can be equally funny. It's just that women usually don't want to go as far with their material as men do.

I find most men hilarious. Unintentionally, mind.

Also, I really don't know many women who do routines about menapause (sic) and menstruation. I don't see a lot of stuff that would repel "pennies," male or otherwise, so I have to wonder if this is, like, serious.

Comedian wise? No. I don't particularly find most female comedians funny , even though I am a woman. Because it does start to sound like all of the same jokes after awhile - though I do have a few that I've found amusing. I'm not saying they aren't good people, or that they aren't funny when you talk to them personally, one-on-one; but when they get on stage it's just different.

The only real ladies-of-comedy I've ever laughed at were, French and Saunders (hilarious), Wanda Sykes, and Ellen Degeneres. Ellen is actually a favorite of mine, because, she deals with a lot of observational comedy. I like that.

Some female comedians usually try too hard. They try too hard to be rough and "I-don't-care". Swaggering , barking jokes, and taking stabs at shock comedy for a few laughs. I usually expect them to try to adjust their junk on stage. Then there are those female comedians who try far too hard to just appeal to the ladies in the audience. Talking about shopping, hating men, and whatever else they think will get the most laughs from their own gender. It's very hard for them to find middle ground in the first place; like any comedian. It's not an easy gig to try to appeal to everyone at one time, man or woman.


I've found more real my-side-hurts laughs with female friends (which I have very few of now), then female comedians. But that's just me. =)

Comedy is just like music, television shows, and what games you like. You just like them. You can't truly explain it to someone who doesn't understand, or doesn't like what you like. They'll never get it. No matter how many big words you use, or how many ways you try to get the reason into their heads. You just do. ^_^

(However, favorite male comedians = George Carlin, Billy Connolly,Patton Oswalt, and Louis C.K . They've had me in tears. Especially Connolly. That man is a legendary storyteller. =D)

Are female comedians funny? No, for all the reasons the OP described. A comedian really has to understand their audience, and I'm a guy approaching middle age.

So I tend to find comedy that appeals to late youth/early middle age men funny. Stuff like Tim Allen, Chris Rock, and Drew Carey in their primes (late 80s/early 90s for Allen and Carey, late 90s for Rock). And I don't particularly like the new style of comedy exemplified by Dane Cook and Jim Gaffigan. And, on topic, I don't find women's estrogen-fueled humor relatable and when I can't relate I'm probably not laughing.

In general, I don't find most women comedians to be all that funny. However, Joan Rivers seems to be fairly funny.

It's the standard thing that female comedians are funny, but they're never really laugh out loud funny, unless you're also a woman and can relate to what they're saying about menapause.

This is true. Women rely more on silly voices and long anecdotes with hit or miss punchlines that are usually along the lines of their family or children, menopause and mid-life crises and shopping and their time of the month and clothes. Male comedians might use examples from their life but then they make a wider ranfe of jokes and innuendo and some of them include a bit of self deprecating humour. Females tend to have a much smaller range of jokes and they end up feeling repetitive. I laugh a thousand times more watching male acts or with my female friends than I do when watching Fiona O'loughlin.

Another thing I noticed was that men tend to say more random things, comments that are so off on a tangent that it comes as a surprise and gets a laugh. Of all the women I've seen, Codi Fischer is probably the only one who gets it right. And she has a boys name. Haxx.
