Yes, just... yes. Especially considering, as people have mentioned before, it's come up a lot on The Smoking Gun Presents: World's Dumbest.

Stupid people are quite stupid, yes.

We've got our share of smart people but we've also got our stupid people.

And they are stupid.

Just ask yourself. For someone who wants to base their lifestyle on committing petty crimes and abusing innocent people they never met have the intelligence to understand that a phone can give away someones position?

Agreed. Kind of annoyed KiloFox got a warning. I mean...I know you get them for low content posts....but this thread shouldn't even have turned into a discussion. A lot of people are so fucking thick, it's surprising the amount of people with downs syndrome isn't higher than what it is.

Take it away Big Mac...
In all seriousness, this kind of reminds me of that story I heard a few days ago, about that guy who called the cops about his bags of cocaine being stolen, then bragged to them about how he still had ten more they missed.

Without even reading the OP I can confidently say: Yes, they can.

There any discussion value to this at all?

Yeah, there is. For example: What goes through the idiots head when they steal something that sends out a constant tracking signal, and then forget to turn it off, thereby giving away their position?

Or how about this: What drives someone to commit such a petty act of crime anyways? There's no pay-off, no value, no logic, yet they do it anyways. I don't care HOW stupid you are, if you're stealing something there's a reason for it. If that reason's shits and giggles, then obviously your brain has some major damages.

There are plenty of stupid people around, I had to deal with one at work today. They said 'Can I use this voucher even though it's out of date?'. So I just told them straight 'That has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard'.

Some people out there are a special kind of stupid, but what's sad is someone will always one-up them, so get ready for seeing bigger idiots throughout your life.

They obviously didn't steal it for the cash, because if they did it would be pawned off to some shmuck already, or at least turned off, so they're doing it for shits and giggles, which makes even less sense because there's no payoff at all... unless you count being beaten to within an inch of your life by a VERY angry woman and her friends a payoff...
Here's the thing: a dominatrix costs a lot more than you'd get for a stolen phone. Although that statement is true (I inquired once and it was one a half months rent), that probably wasn't their reason. I don't really have anything to add, because many people have already pointed out that, yes, even dumber people exist.

However, you ignore the flip side of this: people are surprisingly stupid about securing their property. Here's an experiment--go to a large, full parking lot and try to open some car doors. A surprising amount of them will be unlocked. That number increases dramatically if you do this in a neighborhood.

People leave their valuables out in the open all the time, which is probably what your sister did. It's incredibly easy to steal stuff, you just have to think about it.

Most of life is based on the assumption that no one is out to get you. Or is going to decide to steal your stuff for giggles. In good parts of town, anyway.

I didn't do my thieving for shits and giggles. I needed lunch money and quality school supplies. If a mook isn't gonna protect their money right it got taken simple as that. I'm not proud of doing it but I sure as hell I won't say it wasn't fun. I had stop myself while I was still dealing with dumbasses.

There was a bank rrobbery in my town once.
The robber gave the teller a slip of paper that said "Give me the money"
The teller said "We dont cash these here but the bank next door does"
The guys left and went to the other bank and got caught.

Humanity can be as dumb as gramm crackers at times... Oh well, we are kind of silly like that... ^^'
You dare insult the Graham Cracker!? They allow us to enjoy one of the most marvelous treats in the world..S'MORES! How stupid can they be? c'mon now...you're better than that. You can't compare a criminal to a dessert.

That being said, It is quite right that the human race is capable of the most moronic actions. It's nothing short of a miracle that humanity has survived this long.

Hi, you're new to the world arent you.

Seriously though, its amazing when anyone steals anyhting and then does something like hat, though not surprising. My favorite thing is when someone steals a car stereo and then thinks they can sell it for mad money. especially if its one like mine, where there's not even a CD player option (my car's a 99 escort, though its weird cause my 95 grand am SE had a cd player).
