Are preorders worth it?

Lots of games coming out, but I'm not sure which ones to preorder and which to just wait till release, this can be quite annoying.

Enough about me though, what is your interpretation of a "Good preorder package"? Do you like free DLC? Physical bits you can actually display in your room or look at or do you like those exclusive in game items that only you will ever see?

How often do you preorder? If not, why not?

Pre-orderng Reboots or new IPs is very doggy and I do my best not to pre-order them. Sequels are rather a hit & miss, if I did enjoy the previous game then I'd pre-order otherwise no.

The bonus content is rather varied, I'm more likely to pre-order if it's offering a soundtrack and/or physical goods.

Any game above £27 is expensive for a PC version of an game.

Depends on how you look at it. for instance I have a bunch of titles pre-ordered right now, so I can pay them off usuing just a little spot of quid at a time, without too much burden on the ole wallet.

I already know that the titles preordered are ones that I will be holding on to for a while.

On the other hand, if I am not concerned with getting the game at release, and I am not motivated by the (usually shallow) preorder incentives then it may be better to just wait to see if the price goes down *cough* amazon.com *cough* (way of the Samurai 3 is still like $40.00 used at Gamestop ._. )

So yeah either pay it off really early and enjoy your day one release, or get it wayyyy after the release date for uber cheap off amazon.com

I pre-order fairly often. Mostly through Amazon, where it is just a matter of clicking a button. I get release day shipping, and don't have to remember what day the game comes out. So much easier to just have it show up at my house on release day. Goodies are just a bonus, though I do try to get them when I can. After all, it's not like it costs me anything extra for them.

very rarely, on occasion a pre-order will grab me some nice little bit of DLC or a hat or two in tf2 that I actually want but other than that I never considered pre-ordering necessary especially since most stores won't run out of a game I really want to play on release day.

maybe if the game companies gave me a better incentive to pre-order like a special edition and some bonus art or something. rewarding me for having faith in a game before anyone got a chance to play it.

I think companies could do a lot more to boost pre-order sales but it just seems they don't care.

Not even Skyrim or Massively multiplayer games people sink hundreds upon hundreds of hours into? I think it all comes down to two things:

1) How much you value a game
2) How much you value the incentive

Just be a smart shopper. Don't run in blindly and pre-order something just because it comes with a shiny bell. I like to pre-order every once in a while, but only stuff I know I will find Value in, like Skyrim or Gears 3, or Red Orchestra 2.

I only preorder if I feel like I need the game as soon as it comes out and can't wait for it to go down in price (so usually only from companies I trust). Usually those are games made by companies I trust. Personally I much rather have something physical over some DLC. Even just a soundtrack or an artbook is better than them taking away part of the game and giving it back to you if you preorder it. That doesn't feel like I'm getting anything, it just feels like they're removing it for everyone else.

To be honest, I don't think pre-order packages are worth it. I pre-order to get the game as soon as it comes out mainly. Giving me extra stuff for a game I wouldn't pre-order anyway will not make me pre-order it.

i'm preordering arkham city with collectors edition, because its got retro batman skin, and the collectors edition is worth it.

i'm also gonna preorder skyrim, because its gonna be pretty awesome, and i'm fairly confident in that.

Never do i preorder , because i rarely buy games on day 1 of release , buy look , if you are going to buy a game , any game on release might as well preorder it for the extra stuff , no matter how little extra come with it , since its the same price anyways . But because i dont really buy games on release i dont preorder . I preordered catherine though because i wanted the love is over edition , and i wanted to support atlus and the original game . 1st and only time i preordered but i was planing to buy the game on day 1 since january

The only game I ever pre-ordered was Street Fighter IV. That decision was not propelled by incentives external to the game itself. I was just caught up in the hype and excitement of having a truly new Street Fighter game. That being said, the fact that I bought a game at full price in the first place was highly uncharacteristic. The only swag that I really care for is a soundtrack, but I still probably would not shell out $60 for that either.

I rarely pre-order games. I've only pre-ordered three games, and to be frank, all of them were worth the money spent on them. But of course, I don't pre-order games I have absolutely no interest in.

I already put my money down for Deus Ex: HR. The only thing I can do now is play the waiting game.
