Are sexualised women in games insulting to male audiences too?

Yes. It's basically a bunch of guys in suits thinking I'm going to part with my money if they dangle tits in front of me. Not that I'm complaining or whatever. If they want to throw some T&A in an otherwise great game I'm not gonna complain. Games like WET and X Blades? Grrr. Games like Dragon Age? Oh ya.

It gets on my nerves too. Thankfully, the trend seems to be dying out. Slowly.

I've not played any of those game, can't say I find it too much of a prevalent issue anymore.

before her latest redesign, Lara Croft was just a pair of tits and a 1-dimensional personality.
fixed it for you.
Only you're completely wrong.

They very much tried to make Lara's character the centre of the story from Legends to Underworld.

Over-sexualised women in video games does seem insulting. But the reason is because it is presenting men like me with fantassies that we know we can never have. Like the games are saying to us "haha, look what you'll never have!"

That's why I've always prefered more realistic women in games, like Alyx Vance.

The whole sex sells thing annoys me no matter how it's used but the truth is it works. If a game falls back on sex for its sales then that doesn't say much for the developers does it or any media really.

You have fallen into the same trap your railing against. by going on about things being condescending, you too are treating women as objects, to be set aside and respected. I'll get to the point; Do you know what kind of person complains about sex in vidjagames? stupid ones, ones with ridiculous opinions that are based around their own self inflation, the kind of person that thinks they can write a self defense book because they don't get attacked everyday, deluded enough to believe that it is because they are special, but too stupid to realize they are making a fool of themselves. these people get media attention BECAUSE they are making a fool of themselves, and people even stupider listen and then follow suit. this is how this shit started.

Know what's not OK? THIS.

This infuriating campaign against the "over sexualized" video games that everybody seems to think is a massive call by the shadow patriarchy in order to completely degrade women and push up their sales to dumbfounded drooling men. Let me ask you a question: Would you have had a problem with this if there wasn't so much media controversy surrounding sex in video games?

So to wrap things up, no, no no no, no, no no. You need to evolve past this idea that sex=bad and take a perspective look on your opinion of women. there are plenty of "normal" women in video games, if you haven't come across them then why are you on The Escapist? Alex Vance, or Jade from beyond good and evil, well known, how about Alexandra Roivas? (eternal darkness).

Maybe, just once. I would like hear an article on "parent of five and famous anti-sex-in-games member, realizes that nobody gives a fuck."
What trap? What campaign? I have an opinion, which i stated at the beginning of the thread. You are the one campaigning.

Dont presume my ego, my beliefs and my opinion. People do give a fuck, and people are usually civil enough to discuss their opinions. Rather than the rant /thread combo.
Apologies if you find my method of discussion uncivilized, but in my opinion, judging by your post and response. My presumption of your ego remains correct.

"what trap?" - I defined that in the very paragraph in which it was included, the 'trap' you have fallen into is a metaphor for the objectification of women, by demanding that women are not objects and shouldn't be over sexualized, you are in turn objectifying them as things people have to respect. you have an opinion inverse but still equal to that which you are against, therefore, you are still objectifying women.

"What campaign? I have an opinion, which i stated at the beginning of the thread. You are the one campaigning." - you're right, you have an opinion, which you started a thread with, I also have an opinion, which I countered yours with. I submit to you that if me arguing in the form of a transmitted opinion is a campaign, then so is yours.

"Dont presume my ego, my beliefs and my opinion." - Funny sentence you have there, I like the part how I'm presuming your opinion, regardless of the fact that you stated it in the start of the thread, and the fact that you stated that in the paragraph preceding this one. Do tell how it is possible to presume an opinion after reading it.

"People do give a fuck" - I don't, anybody I know with weight in such arguments (people who know enough about video game culture to harbor a respectable opinion about them) doesn't, So why should I believe otherwise? maybe backing up your argument with evidence would be a good idea.

"...and people are usually civil enough to discuss their opinions. Rather than the rant /thread combo." - I did not submit my opinion so that people couldn't discuss it. You call me uncivilized yet nowhere in your response have you included any valid point against my statement. So you consider it "civil" to respond with an attack on the poster as opposed to the post itself. If you are looking for the uncivilized one sir, look in the mirror.

you know, it's not insulting if the overall package is well realized. I mean, if you just throw in tits because you obviously don't have any better ideas, then it's a big no-no and since that's the direction the games are taking, let's hope it doesn't all go to hell

Most sexual "fanservice" is tasteless and unnecessary, but hey, it helps sell to the teen audience.
The only scene that comes to mind where it seemed appropriate was in Godhand (right before "Boss #2". If you've played the game, you know exactly what I mean).

I'm not a prude, but if you're trying to set a mood or a tone in your game, don't ruin it with a scene that pretty much goes *GIANT TITS HONK HONK*. Sex in video games is fine as a subject, or even as a tease. But when games are made for no other reason than "jiggle physics", it can be downright insulting just by association.

I mean, if you honestly want to see titties, just use the internet. You don't need a digital representation of woman that looks like a balloon animal for that.

The short answer is yes.

I hate it when I find my head turned by a sexy image. I mean, yeah, I'm a human and have normal sexual urges. Plus, I'm male, so I AM prone to visual stimululi (it's been emperically proven)... but mostly, I find myself thinking, "Well, fuck you for rying that. Now I'm going with your competitor." (with the exception of my deodorant. It smells good, ok?)

So. I looked through my game ollection of games to see what I had with a sexy girl on the front...
