Yes, they are redundant. Not only that, but they are actively harmful for the gaming market.
Actively harmful against Pc gamers who want to play console games but aren't willing to buy a console, you mean?

Consoles seem to be doing a fine job sustaining a ton of companies and their employees. How are consoles actively harmful to the gaming market?

well if you have continued to read my post before pressing the quote button you would have seen that i have explained that they are actively harmful in that they are monopolistic holders that run closed platforms and thus the gamers using them have no choice but to comply to their rules.

Lol, you think gaming market is fine as long as those shitty companies that do nothing but exploit people are making money? The fact that the likes of EA and Ubisoft stay afloat despite pulling shit that they do is proof that the market isnt working.

What are you complaining about? The market is about as free as can be. Both consumers and developers have the option to go to the open platform that is Pc.

Having competition breeds diversity, If Microsoft was gone we would have terrible Japanese online networks, if we lose sony we lose a crap ton of Japanese games. I assume its easier to publish games with Sony then Nintendo because they're a lot more games from smaller Devs on sony's platform.

Nintendo is just the Oldman in the room who keeps the status Quo. Yes Nintendo online system is terrible but you don't get terrible DLC practices and huge Day 1 updates because the online system is terrible. Yes there are exceptions but for the most part you put a disc or Cartridge in a Nintendo system and it works.

I am complaining that not all platforms are open like PC.

I wouldn't miss the Xbox. You can already play all of its games on PC as it is (which is great, but makes the console about completely pointless). On the PS4 though there's still a couple of upcoming games I'm really looking forward to, like Nioh and The Last Guardian. And Bloodborne is in my top 10 games of all time, so I wouldn't want to have missed that one.
