Are the Dalish worth siding with?

Ok, I'm pretty pissed off right now, just finished Nature of the Beast and ended up with the worst outcome, the Dalish as my allies, I know the Werewolves are powerhouses and worth having in the final fight (plus a Werewolf in camp is pretty sweet), but I want to know, are the Dalish worth having as allies, or are they as useless as elves seem to be in Dragon Age?

Post will outcome wether I delete that save or carry on with it.

I've never actually had the werewolves on my side before. My only Rogue was playing the "good" side. Still, the Dalish do kind of suck, and the wolves seem like they'd be helpful.

you seem to be pretty pissed.

so why don't YOU decide if you want to keep the save.
seems like you don't really care since your asking us.

They can be quite handy in the final fight, especially if you have no other ranged allies to call upon. Their range specifically is what makes them somewhat useful. That said, in a stand up fight with people in their melee range they're rubbish, if you picked a ranged/caster character yourself you can do better than all of them, and if you have other ranged allies, they're going to be better.

However, I don't think Dragon Age is very much about min-maxing, but about choices. Pick what seems right to you/your character.

I'd say you should go with what makes sense to your story, not with how useful they would be in the final fight. Truth be told, I barely used the armies during the final battle. If you've decently built up your party, you can do most of it by yourself, so don't worry too much about the armies you get.

I've read that their are benefits to having the elves. They are ranged attackers, and one of the few ranged choices you can side with. Ranged attackers are useful if you have a bunch of melee fighters in your group.

I've never gotten the option to have the wolves. In every one of my playthroughs my smooth talking Grey Warden sorts things out peaceably.

But...
Even if you sort things out peaceably, you might still only get the elves. If you convince Zathrain to end his life you cure the wolves, which means you get the elves. I have heard there is a way to get both, but obviously that would mean leaving the wolves as wolves.

Yeah, but some people have actually changed my mind, the DA:O Wikia was all like "OMG THE DALISH ARE A POWAR HOUSES!" so that didn't sway me, also, if Punisher A.J. said is true, then the Alienage will be easier.

A well-balanced argument can change minds.

And my thanks to the people who've posted, its nice to know they aren't useless and I can complete the Final Battle with them.

I like the Dalish, their arrows come in very handy......and it gives a better ending (I personally think) in the epilogue. My vote is to embrace the elflovin and nab em

Also when I was playing the jerk role and the "ooooo the Lady is a hottie" card I noticed the wolves were pretty much as effective as the dwarves as in the pure melee go up and attack aspect but I noticed less dwarves died when I compared them (not at the same time of course)
so yeah Goochman says befriend the elves

The Dalish have ranged attacks, they will last a hell of a lot longer against the Arch demon, also werewolves low HP kills them off quite quickly

So overall I think the Dalish are better.

I'm a close-up fighter and having the Dalish as my ranged group helps in the end because it keeps most of the enemies at enough of a distance so i can cast my spells without getting interrupted all the time.

It is fun to have the Werewolves they are useful in the last section, they tear through the Darkspawn so easily it actually funny. But it is nice to know that the Dalish will be useful.

I can't get RID of the farking Dalish.
I'll just have to kill them all next time.

To their credit they're somewhat useful in the more open battles of the finale as they can shoot longer than most (provided you upgrade them plenty).

i found the dalish useful fighting the archdemon. they didn't get killed by it like my retarded party. No they just got killed by the darkspawn, letting me sit on my arse spamming the infinate, rapid load ballistea... ballistae... big arsed bows XD

I have, still wont sway my biggot views on elves (even though in this playthrough I'm a mage elf, they have the best magic stats!) lol, and I found that I lost more Dwarves than Werewolves, in the Alienage where they should be good (Its CQC) they got massarcred, I was like "....What the hell! They're suppose to be close combat power houses!" and I lost all the Werewolves, but you only get like 15 I think while you get 50 Dwarves.

And whats so special about the Dalish epilouge? I've never seen it, I'll get to the prolougue tonight (I already know I'm running away with Sten back to his homeland, 100% Approval ftw!) but I've never seen the Dalish, partly because there arrogant attitude always makes me convince Swiftrunner to attack them.

Lol just my personal opinion man and what I have noticed.....and the Alienage I only lost 1 dwarf while my wolfpeeps were beaten down

And I just thought the Epilogue for the Dales was cooler than the one for the Wolves....again my personal opinion that's all

I know, and I respect your opinion, hence asking people for there's lol. How you only lost 1 dwaf is beyond me, I lost over half in the Alienage, had about 20 left to try n help me take down the Archdemon, granted I still had about 30ish men and used them all up n the Archdemon was almost dead, but they still didn't perform aswell as the internets had told me.

Eh, my last playthrough really pissed me off, Alistaire died so that traitors ***** daughter got the throne, the dwarves ended up in the same position as they were in before, as you say the Werewolves ending isn't good and I never saw the party ever gain, so, as to my reaction to this, you guys can assume I was fuming and I was lol.

with the dwarves in the alienage (I was a tank) I pretty much went up and grabbed the Ogres ASAP which took a ton of heat off them, so they got to run around and spank the Darkspawn.....the one unlucky dwarf I think got a boulder thrown at his face while I was frozen by an emissary

Gah The Archdemon was my fuming moment (not because it was a hard fight) for the fact that all the people I summoned to help me seemed to think that the big fires in the middle was for warming you up purposes because they would just chill in the fire during the adds phase.....but it's cool the one army guy I had alive offered me a Smore at the end

Werewolfs are actually kind of meh cool as hell but average as units, mages/golems kick the crap out of everything else at the end all they amount to is another variety of meat shield easily interchangable with mercs/dwarves/templars.

I still go with them nearly every time though for the sheer awsome factor and because I sympethise with them more than the fraking elves eye for an eye.
