everyone is online these days, and it seems more convinient to join your friends server than go to his house and vice-versa. But in some places namely worthless Trinidad & Tobago , we don't have that luxury
but is it dying out yet?

I hope not. As someone on dial-up and a longtime gamer I've had some of my best and funniest gaming experiences on split-screen multiplayer, and in my opinion, it really boosts friendships and gaming skill.

Hey! I have a couple friends that live in the good old T & T!

Yeah, its slowly going away, and I will miss it when it is gone. But DAMN, do I prefer system link! Its got the sociability of split screen, without the cheating(unless your reallllllyyyyy crafty, like me)!

I always hated split-screen. Just because sharing the same itty-bitty screen to play a game was extremely difficult.

LAN parties were much better..

Unfortunately, yes. Apparently exchanging vulgarities with some prick over the Internet is better than exchanging vulgarities with your friends withing punching range.

Ah, the wonders of progress.

EDIT: Yeah, LAN is better. But it still isn't the same.

Conduit 2 is going to have split screen. And the Goldeneye remake is coming out, and I'm almost 100% sure it'll have split-screen, too.

No.
Cod4, MW2, Modnation Racers, Halo: Reach (All Halos, really), Blur, Forza 3, The new Goldeneye release, Lost Planet 2, Gears of War 1, 2, and probably 3, both Army of Two games, The entire Ghost Recon series (Including Advanced Warfighter), Both Rainbow Six: Vegas games...these all have split screen. And more are being released.

It's not dying, you don't hear about it very often.

Sadly I believe it is. It will be a great loss. I just love when I am playing split-screen and do something totally bullsh*t, then as my friends body falls to the floor I just sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly turn my head over at him and smile. I usually get punched in the gut for it, but it is still the best feeling in the world. ^-^b

So long as bungie is around it will not be completely dead. But it is a dying trend, and I am sad to see it go.

Its funny that when in the same room with someone getting beating is jovial and fun, but over the internet "FUCK YOU MOFO! YOUR TOTALLY GLITCHING".

The Wii is pretty good at multiplayer in terms of people in the same room as you.

Yep... They're going to die soon, since the gaming industry is taking advantage of how lazy everyone is...

It'll take a while, since most people find it unreasonable to buy more than one console so people who live together can play with each other...

While I doubt it will ever die, it is a falling trend, and it makes me sad.

A game of Timesplitters with 4 friends in the same room is infinitely more fun than getting cussed out over some 8 year old over the internet.

I can't remember where I saw it (probably Cracked) but as somebody pointed out, split-screen is TWO people.
Playing ONE copy of the game.

Game executives don't like this.
They want people to each have their own copies.

So they make online play the only option.

Resident Evil 5 continues to give me hope. I really adore split-screen games, especially since I couldn't be bothered to play anything online.

I don't mind two player games, but I hate it when the game splits the screen. Everything looks so cluttered. But yea, I do wish developers would hop off on multiplayer.
