I honestly don't really find it's KIDS in particular who are ruining things - there are jackasses of all ages, and frankly most of the ones I encounter seem to be more young adults or older than actual kids.

My gosh. I dont know how many times this has to be said but, its not the kids everytime. Theres a bunch of 20-30 year old assholes cursing into there headset as well. They are just as much of a problem.

That said, they are not ruining anything. You have a mute button. USE IT.

I dunno but I stopped playing online due to shitty internet, shitty prices, and yes, shitty kids.

The problem is that most games don't cater for actual team work. And the ones that do are dead.
Uh, really? Don't cater for teamwork?

Join some good servers and you'll have all the teamwork you want.
And don't bother to complain about hats and updates, those are just the icing on the cake.

It seems like there's something wrong with these kids. I have yet to meet any who weren't annoying dipshits, and it's not even the voice. Just yesterday I ran into two separate groups of kids on Killing Floor who made asses of themselves and screamed that I was a 'failed abortion' over and over after they died until I muted them.

Back when I played WoW it seemed like kids always rage-quitted instances or ninjaed items from monsters.

It's kinda weird, I never knew anyone who would pull this kind of shit when I was a kid. Like having the internet available for their whole lives, and therefore anonymity, has had some weird psychological effect to turn them into apeshit screamers. Doing the things they do would get them curbstomped in reality, but they've grown up used to doing it online.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it, and all kids are bastards regardless of upbringing.

Or maybe I just really, really hate kids.
I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Anyone who has had the internet provided to them from a very young age is not going to learn how to behave in normal society they just learn how to act in a situation where they are completely safe and never face any consequences like they would in the real world.

I've never really encountered much, though I do very much agree that sometimes there is some little prick on the mic whom you just want to reach through the internet and strangle. And it's not just kids...there are douchebags of all ages, races, genders, and creeds.

As for ruining it...nah. Sad fact of life: There are always going to be assholes. You can freak out and yell and complain about them...or you can mute them. It works in real life, too!

Obnoxious little kids have been playing mp games for as long as I can remember, hell I used to be one. So no, they are not ruining the gaming community otherwise we would have all left them a long time ago to fester in their own filth. Without us any shred of coherent thought and sanity would be lost.

No, the stupid and annoying *people* are ruining it - and even then, "ruin" is a strong word to use.

by the "shitty prices" i think he was refering to xbox live, therefore no dedicated servers, random people all the time, no moderators, and the list goes on and on of what can go wrong.

i am a moderator in a tf2 all talk "not safe for work", and beside the "not safe for work" and "cursing allowed", everyone is very nice to each other. We just have to kick those who actually become annoying, doesn't happen too often.

Haven't really seen anything like that.
Although I don't game all that much online, when I do text is the main form of communication (pc gaming).

I have seen the rage first hand from the other end, I was at my sisters and all off a sudden there was huge commotion and shouting up stairs. We both went to investigate and saw my 14yr old nephew kicking the shit out of his Xbox and other stuff. Apparently he lost a grudge match and some dude killed him several times and called him a noob.

The most retarded thing was my sister replaced the console within a few weeks.

No not really. To me it's more the generation that grew up with the rise of gaming. A lot of those people seem to feel entitled to certain privileges because they were there from the beginning.

It's getting completely out of hand, the recent Bioware hate you see everywhere is a good example.

This is actually the reason I can't go and play Heroes of Newerth or League of Legends, or other DOTA-styled game, even though I find the concept for these games interesting.
Most serious MOBA players aren't children... they just act like them. >.>

Well, they certainly aren't helping.

Inb4 stupid comments about how this is only the FPS community-oh shit. Too late.

Edit: I'll expand a bit more. I do acknowledge the fact that most pain in the gaming community comes from the people who play Call of Duty, or Halo, and nothing else, but I really do hate the way people who dislike FPS games like to use this as an excuse to insult anyone who likes to play FPS games in general.

Last week a boy asked me to send him a picture of my vagina. VAGINA! I had to log off- what ever happened to breasts, now they are on to vaginas?! That's why I usually party up.

This wouldn't be an issue if the developers/publishers hadn't moved away from a dedicated server model in multi-player.

I don't know. I rarely play games online and the Escapist s the only online community I belong to.
