Zombie films/movies focusing on only ONE country.

How there is no mention of other nations in the setting, what of relatively isolated nations like Australia, New Zealand or Japan? Imagine those nations 'reclaiming' the United States with limited resources, but relative safety of being island nations, against the new zombie environment.

Vampire/Supernatural IPs that are designed to appeal to the teenage female demographic. Why isn't there some of these designed to appeal to the ENTIRE demographic? Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Hell on Wheels - appeals to many demographics. Vampire doesn't always mean 'teen girls love it omg'. Make it nasty, make it like The Tudors or The Borgias but with -vampires- and people will flock to it.

Zombies. So sick of zombies. In any form or fashion. I was tired of zombies two years ago, now, this is just getting stupid. Not only are there too many zombie shows, movies, and games, but nearly all of them suck, or are mediocre at best. Especially that stupid Walking Dead show everyone seems to be jizzing themselves over now. It isn't that great.

Oh, and shooters. I like first-person and third-person shooters. I really do. But I want more than 10% of the games that come out in a given year to have some form of variety.

Anime series set in high school. Whether it's the cliched comedy tropes, creepy obsession with underaged girls, or weak attempts to create drama using effectively shallow problems...this setting continues to appeal to me less and less. I don't really mind young characters or their problems, but high school has become to anime what the modern shooter is to video games or the zombie story is to horror. A template used to make some of the most shallow, cut down, flashy but ultimately pointless scenarios to try catching someone's attention just long enough to get some cash out of your customers.

I'd have to definitely go with modern military shooters and multiplayer.

MMS': I was raised on Quake, Doom, and Duke Nukem 3D. I heartily enjoyed the next-to-no story, carrying twelve weapons, and not having any sort of command structure/squad yelling at me to "Go here, shoot that! NOW NOW NOW!!!!". I personally blame Halo for this, and thus I refuse to play Halo games.

Multiplayer: Dear Game Companies, sometimes I like to play alone. Sometimes I like a game for its story. Multiplayer fucks that all up. It's not even the gameplay I'm tired of-it's the complete focus on it. I was excited for BLOPS 2, I'll admit it. I've been playing CoD since the beginning and can't help but be excited for a new installment. But anything I heard about BLOPS 2 until about a week before release was 1% "Hey, check out this game!" and 99% "ERRMERRGEHRD LOOK AT THE TEAM DEATHMATCH MAPS AREN'T THEY SWEET?!?!?!?!!!??". I also blame Diablo 3, Gears of War (another one of my favorite series). On a side note, because of this, multiplayer keeps getting shoehorned into single-player games; a la Mass Effect and again, Diablo.

Multiplayer.

Hey game companies, if you want Multiplayer in your Call of Duties and your Super Street Fighters Alpha x500,000 Cross SNK Cross Tekken, that is all fine and good. Games like that are made for multiplayer...but uh...seriously..stay away from my beloved single player games, more specifically my RPG's, and if for whatever reason you do decided to include multiplayer, don't make it so that it's mandatory if you want to get like a 100% completion and whatever (i.e Mass Effect 3).

You know what game did that well? Space Marine. No mode affected the other, and I can complete all of the content in Space Marine without even touching the multiplayer. The multiplayer is completely optional. That is how multiplayer in games like that should be implemented. But for the love of God, I swear, if I find out that games like the Elder Scrolls and Fallout will include multiplayer in future titles, I will forget your company even exists.

I'm burnt out on Cynicism. My own life is a trainwreck, and I'm getting tired of settings throwing constant, remorseless misery into my face. LIke Warhammer 40K or Game of Thrones. I adore the setting of the first, while I adore the characters of the second. But the former can only go so far without becoming boring, and injecting something as shocking as HOPE into the setting is considered heresy. The latter I can only root for characters so long before they do something despicable and lose my sympathy or they become sacrificial lambs because they were too good for the series.

to be honest for me it's romance subplots in movies, particularly superhero movies, but also in general. not EVERYTHING needs a romance subplot, I like a good romance if ir's done well, but seriously about 95% of all movies have a romance subplot and a lot of them seem completely for their own sake, for example I think, although not badly done, the romance in Thor wasn't needed, they could've just been friends and the end result would've been exactly the same it was by far not the worst movie romance Natalie Portman has been a part of, but still it was not needed

It also weirded me out as a fan of the god, not the comic book charecter because he is married in the myths. uhhh... buddy I know you are a bastard child of a extremely prolific father and all but you are already married. Go back to Asgard ASAP because Sif probably misses you.

Anything that has America in it. Except Spec Ops.

And "realistic" fantasy games. You're given a genre that you can go batshit crazy with but decide to base it off of real life.

- +1 for zombie apocalypses. So very played out. (Yes, the Walking Dead game is an exception. No need to lynch me.)

- The Land of the Free Vs Terrorists/Russians. Please stop slapping me in the face with your 9/11 revenge fantasies.

- Sword & Sorcery fantasy with elves, dwarves and orcs. Yes, Tolkien was pretty cool. Now can we please stop ripping him off? Also, can we please stop ripping of the guys who ripped off the guys who ripped off Tolkien? That would also be nice.

- Mad Max style post-apocalypse settings. It's been done to death, please stop it.

I think those are Cold War fantasies when they're Russians.

On the Swords and Sorcery topic, I think the Tolkien rip-offs are shit, but you can still go other places with it. Like TES with the Khajiit, or the earlier Final Fantasy's. On the Tolkien note, why are Dwarves Scottish and Hobbits Irish? What the fuck is that about? Seriously, can ANYONE explain that to me?

Finally, Mad Max is still one of my faves. I love the post-apocalyptic. I don't think it's stagnant yet. Fallout will run strong for at least two more games (Online included) and other than Metro I can't think of another post-apocalypse game.

Gotta be shoe-horned romance for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely fine with romance that's well done, indeed some of my favorite works have a strong romance aspect. What grinds my gears is when an adventure / discovery / sci-fi work etc feels the need to introduce a token love interest (usually female) who will predictably fall for the hero with little effort or development at the end of the story. If you're going to have romance, put in the time to flesh it out.

Yeah. If you're gonna shoe-horn in a bullshit romance then AT LEAST make a statement. Let's see some last-minute relationships between Nathan Drake and his Homosexual Autistic Cousin.

About 10 years ago I said to my brother "Why does every shooter either get set in WWII or 500 years in the future? Why don't they make something set today." I regret those words I don't think I'm sick of anything more than I am the "moderen conflict shooter." That being said, I still play BF3, I enjoyed FarCry3 and I wouldn't mind picking up Spec Ops at some point in the future, but I am just over this whole idea of of these games set in 2000's where you just shoot a bunch of nameless, faceless arabs and russians.

Far too many things to list.
Far. Too. Many.

But being ill, and having an abundance of time I'm not going to be able to sleep...

-The Romantic notion of "love conquers all" and its many subversions is near the top of the list.
-Multiplayer-centric games. Optional Co-Op is fine. But I'm just tired of this element being forced so much lately. Multiplayer seems to be what a game designer does when they don't want to program AI or add more content, or at least, that's what it is quickly becoming.

-Movie Trailers. If it's not the generic Carmina Burana wannabe music, it's the percussion-heavy rapid-shrilling fiddle. And if not that, it's going to include the Inception fog horn. I can't get interested in trailers any more, and it's greatly inhibiting any further interest I have in films.

Modern military shooters. It is always nice to know that as an american according to these games my average life expectancy is about 3 seconds and our country will get its arse kicked by every and any group that will ever exist. Just make them British modern shooters if you have to do anything, according to CoD British people are apparently immortal and never make mistakes.

That said, I do enjoy watching NYC getting destroyed in 90+% of films/games that involve a real world target being destroyed.

time for some sci-fi shooters.
