Anyways, I'd say I'd love to port almost all my JRPGs (which range from PS1 classics, to the PS2 era, to one on the 360, which is on the PS3 in Japan) to the PS3, but you know what, here's something that could be a bit easier:
PUT THE MOTHERFUCKING LEGEND OF THE DRAGOON ON THE PSN ALREADY!
Is the 360 one Tales of Vesperia?
Because that's the best 360 JRPG I can imagine...that's also on the PS3 in Japan.
Now why the Tales series isn't the poster child for JRPGs, I'll never know. How did FF get that image?
OT:
Port Riviera: The Promised Land to consoles, instead of the PSP/GBA.
Yep. It's funny that it ended up as a 360 exclusive despite being a JRPG.
Probably the reason FF is the poster child and not Tales is that
1: they touched 3D first and became famous that way
2: they're a victory from the jaws of defeat story
3: there are so many, earning both a giant lampshade and recognition as a series, despite the fact that there aren't that many sequels
4: Tales games don't get as much advertisment funds (literally every tales game has snuck by me and was released without me realizing it, including vesperia, which I was supposed to be following).
5: Like FFIX they look too cartoonish for gamers while their plots get WAY too dark for kids. Unlike Invader Zim, this didn't equal mega-cult statis
6: Original fans probably didn't like the 3D ones, while newer fans probably don't like the 2D ones.
7: Like all JRPGs, Tales' plots are often difficult to truly advertise without spoiling, as the only thing you can talk about is the beginning part (which is usually the worst part of the quest). FF games have a bit less control in pacing, making that part start off strong (though they usually have a bit of a struggle at some point during the game), while Tales games start you off small and work up to a grand scale. In advertising though, this means FF has the better blurb on the back.
8: FF games are simplier. Tales games have huge worlds with new rules and technology, and like Bioware games, they go about explaining it. FF takes the "fuck it, we'll mention it once, maybe even have it be plot important, but never REALLY explain it" approach.
9: JRPGs aren't often given much of a chance, so a lot of people don't discover the Tales games any more than "Ooh, anime characters on the boxart. Avoiding this due to my xenophobia." Meaning Final Fantasy, which is too well known even by those who don't like the genre, remains for some the only JRPG they know.
Even then, there are plenty of good JRPGs that also could fit as poster child if FF wasn't seated on the throne. SMT (which might be disqualified due to both its weirdness and the M rating when most JRPGs seem to be T), Star Ocean (though 4 might not count...), Xenosaga (especially if it were allowed to be finished), Demon's Souls (though that's a JRPG that plays like an action/horror WRPG with MMORPG elements and tone), or Pokemon (though that seems to have ascended to a higher plane of existance: A Nintendo game).
But then there are so many poster childern that will probably never be unseated.
Mario for platforming
Megaman/Samus for sidescroller shooter, with Castlevania coming up as sidescroller melee weapons
Golden Axe/Streets of Rage for the brawler
Street Fighter/Tekken for the fighting genre
Halo/Call of Duty for FPSs (even though the Escapist likes Half-Life more, those two are thought of first)
Resident Evil (sadly) for horror
Gears of War for third person shooters
God of War and Devil May Cry for hack and slashs
Grand Theft Auto for sandbox crime
MGS for stealth
