Are there any horror games that are actually scary without using jump scares?

Try the Teletubbies games... Terrifying at best.
Yea,
How are kids not terrified of those creepy things.
I found Fallout New Vegas to be very scary.
It got me wondering: how broken does a game have to be before it?s sent back for more testing. Seems like they?ll release anything these days and just patch it up later. Problem is that a few month/patches later and it still runs like crap.
I'm play FNV on a laptop on low settings (because I melted my graphics card once playing FO3 at medium-high) and the game runs smooth barring a few hiccups when there are lots of moving objects to render. Need advice?
Yea, don't rub it in.
I should've gotten it for the PC. I don't know what I was thinking buying it for the ps3. Bethesda is notorious for not supporting the ps3.
They aren't really that great at supporting the pc either but at least the modders are. Have you tried the user made patches and the mods and stuff?
If the dlc gets better, I'll get the goty version for the PC but I am never again getting any game Bethesda is involved with for the ps3.
Sorry if I came off as condescending. I used to be part of the an old FO3 modding community for the overhaul called FOOK so I'm accustomed to sharing Bethesda related technical support.

I'm not so sure how much I can help with PS3 troubles, though. As for PC modifications, most of the smaller mods released for FNV seem to be working well. There are a few performance enhancing files as well, like a .dll file that tricks the game engine into better performance and a mod that replaces game-slowing muzzle flash with faked muzzle flash that looks just as good. I have a whole list of the decent technical ones.

My general advice for Bethesda games. Wait a few days after the initial release if you can. They always have some gamebreaking bug in the first release that gets fixed within the first week. Then, once you have the product, go to the Nexus site (New Vegas Nexus, in this case) and check out their best technical mods by searching 'performance' in the search bar or looking for clues in the forums. The modding community is an amazing resource.

I can't think of many, but Amnesia and most importantly Silent Hill 2.
Silent Hill 2 is everything I love in horror. It's a fantastic game, just look beyond the often stilted voice actors.

No you weren't at all condescending. I was just overreacting because I've gotten so fed up with the ps3 version of FNV.
I'm familiar with the Nexus sites and I will probably be browsing the one for NV long before I buy goty. Love those mods. So thank you for being a part of that.
I knew the game would be a bit of a mess at launch (as any large open world is; especially one on that engine) but not the complete mess it was. The first patch they released did nothing but get rid of a few benign exploits, the next couple fixed up the game a little but not much, and the last one they sent out (for the ps3) was only to get the DLC to play.

There's a game i remember a friend playing on PS2, was set in some Japanese house with 2 girls armed with a camera to fight off ghosts. Was scary as fuck i thought.

Not being a Minecraft fanboy, but Minecraft can be pretty scary when you're digging (hur hur, that's all you ever do...) and hear some weird noises.

The Penumbra games are pretty damn scary too.

Amnesia is excellent. Even playing it with a friend I was still scared. It's a fine example of a good game with no combat.

And I would disagree that Silent Hill uses jump scares.

You must be talking about Fatal Frame.
There's three of them on PS2.
