Are these enemies getting creepier, or is it just me?

And I disagree on the new ones being worse than the old ones. They are all just as valuable when used properly, with the exception of the boomer. He's always going to be the most important.
I don't know, I just prefer the old set. One of the big things I really loved about the original L4D was the simplicity that masked the deeper aspects of the game; with L4D2 you have a bunch of new things going on, and I think that takes away from the "OH SHIT!" aspect when you get jumped/boomed/smoked/etc. You can't be freaking out if you're busy worrying about what kind of gun you want to get and who has the boomer bile and for God's sake did anyone take the defibrillator. As for the special infected, the first set seemed much more invasive and tough. The jockey is like the hick clown cousin of the hunter that no one in the Infected family likes, the spitter is a cake to deal with, and that just leaves the charger holding down the house on the new infected and carrying on with the feeling the others had; and even then, he's much more out in the open than the originals, and I've never had as hard a time dealing with him as with the originals as well.
Also, the originals are more fun to play.

I don't get how having more things really takes away from the "oh shit" feeling you get when playing Left 4 Dead 2. Wouldn't it just magnify it since you have more to waorry about? That's the effect it has on me at least. And the Spitter is hardly easy to deal with when she is being used by a good player. Someone who knows when to spit at just the right time can cause massive damage.

But we are getting off-topic. The OP will probably be mad if we derail this thread into a debate about the new infected vs. the old infected. I just wish I had something more to contribute. I can't recall any of my favorite monster designs being ruined in a sequel.

I've always found older graphics and more polygons tend to make things a bit creepier. More is left to the imagination, and there's often fewer shiny edges.

Maybe it's just a trick of the light, but the tank seemed to get smaller and less imposing in the transition from L4D1 and L4D2.
I wonder if this is because of the addition of the Charger.

For that matter, since there are so many new infected that ruin my day, most of the old ones I'm like, "Oh good, it's only a Smoker."
That said, is it just me, or are they really pushing the new infected on us? Seems like seventy percent of the time it's a new one with the old (frankly, better) ones popping up much less often.
I like the first one more, is it obvious?
I think there are just too many special infected now. They are far less special than they used to be.

But I understand why they made so many. I don't play the versus mode, but I suspect those who do really like the added diversity.

And it does seem like the stupid Jockey pops more than any of the old specials in the campaign missions, but that could just be because I hate him so much.

Yep. I've noticed that Spitters and Jockeys are everywhere in L4D2, whereas I usually hardly ever encounter Hunters and Smokers. The Spitter in particular really gets on my nerves because she forces you to move around during panic events or while holding out for rescue, which in some cases is tantamount to team suicide. I understand she's an anti-camping infected, but the AI director could seriously spawn me a Hunter every once in a while instead.

One old infected that I see ALL the time in L4D2 is the Boomer, though. He's everywhere, usually appearing almost magically around corners while I'm reloading.

Goombas. The first time you ever met one in Super Mario Bros. you were like "HOLY SHIT A WALKING MUSHROOM!," but then after that they stopped really being any sort of source of intimidation.
