anyone else noticed the decline in the quality of game releases lately? i mean the most recent game i bought was operation flashpoint and that wasnt too good. its almost like all the games are coming out of a factory, like they're not putting as much effort into them. although it could be that people expect too much because of the promotion around them. what do you think? do game developers not know what they're doing anymore? are they just lazy? or are there no more good ideas?

That's because some people are realizing how much money you can earn by selling video games. They put minimal effort into them, overhype them, and take your money. It's a conspiracy, I tells ya!

I like the modern games... The Force unleashed(xbox) was terrific, Halo 3 ODST was a nice flashback, and ... uhh... Yeah.

Nice double-post...

It's simple. Making average games that are similar to one another makes a lot more money than making a precious few AMAZING games. It's all economics really...

Also, people have become more picky when it comes to games.

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! YEE-AAH BOOOYEEE!

Or summat.

I always wait for reviews or fellow forumites opinions. Then you get a good idea of gamers enthusiasm for a release rather than some journo. The positive reviews for NFS: Shift and GH5 were shocking. Both games sucked donkey balls.
The general consesus for RB:The Beatles seem to be that it's too easy, so fuck that, I ain't paying full price for a game that won't challenge me either.

No, I actually, I haven't. Then again, I have the ability to form an opinion independent of the eternally unpleaseable "everyting sucks" crowd.

Because they take too much time to make those super duper cool (shit brown, uncanny valley) graphics that everyone likes. (except me, i hate them) Fuck the graphics! Make a good game for once! People don't buy good games because their graphics look little old. They have less time to make a good story and polish the dialogue and level design. Why can't we stick with 2004. graphics? Those were great.

Actually, now that you mention it, I can't think of a single game coming out that I'm too excited for. Brutal Legend, Borderlands, and the new Ratchet & Clank all look good, but none of them look like they're going to blow me away. I think developers might just be a bit too preoccupied with what is popular in games now to give a damn about innovation or originality.

If some developer came up with a came with a good story that actually sucked me in like the old days of Crash, Spyro and the first couple of Ratchet & Clanks I would consider it a miracle these days.

Also, if some developers *chough* Activision *chough* made a proper game instead of re-skinned versions of the same game engine, putting increasingly higher price tags on each time would stop making most gamers look like mindless violence loving zombies that would be a huge improvement.

*Note* Brutal Legends looks quite fun, Jack Black + Axes (both kinds) + Metal seems like a winning combination to me

Someone is using a term they don't understand and are only using it because Ben Croshaw said it..
I know what that means! Everything from 2006. to nowadays is mostly in the uncanny valley and no, it's not from yahtzee. Its from kirithem on youtube. I can't think of any game, that is old and would be in the uncanny valley, but if asked which ones would be in the uncanny valley i would say that all of the new games. They all creep me out!

I sincerely hope you where being sarcastic.

Also, for those of you who want to make sarcasm obvious, whenever theres sarcasm on my pay-TV subtitles, the end of the sentance has this: (!) eg.

Person 1: Wanna come to my place to play Halo?
Person 2: Yeah, because I just looove Halo(!)

(yes I am aware that person 2 is a douchebag)

People spend too much money and resources on graphics and marketing, while gameplay and story remain unpolished.

Plus, most developers have to make money. Lots and lots of it. They cannot afford luxury of polishing and refining game for years.
