I just wish they would put there thinking caps on and figure out a way to make for the PS3. Seriosly, they baraly tried before with the orange box, why don't you just think and configure for the PS3 as well, they'll make more sales so i don't see why they dont try.

I don't know, developers are usually seen in a better light than publishers, but there are a few publishers which seem ok, stardock springs to mind

They're a lot better than publishers like Activision or EA, but I wouldn't consider them the "good guys." They still whored half life 2 with episode 1, 2, and 3, and probably more episodes to come when they should just make half life 3. Not to mention they're making Left 4 dead 2, with only 1 new multiplayer map pack being released a couple months before L4D2 is released.
I don't hate them for "whoring" Half Life 2 because the Episodes were actualy pretty damn good to me. The whole L4D 2 thing is a bit annoying but aslong as they don't make a new L4D 3 by 2010-2012 I'm fine.

Otherwise, I consider them the good guys COMPARED to the other companies.

You know what? You can keep going on and on about the publishers and corporations and money and shit, but inevitably you must remember that Valve are the heroes who have never ever ever ever EVER EVER EVER made a bad game. YEAH they are the good guys.

The video game industry is NOT like some spaghetti western film where we have valiant "white hats" and evil "black hats". Stop kidding yourself
Hmm... that makes for an interesting thought. If Valve wears the white hat and Publishers like EA wear the black hat, who wears the red shirt? My vote goes to the guys and gals who have the original ideas just to watch them get twisted and outright cut out during development.

How quaintly naive of you.

If a developer makes a bunch of good games, they tend to be viewed in a better light than the ones that don't. For example, Valve and Insomniac are both fairly small developers that have a reputation for creating enjoyable games. EA, on the other hand, turns out a lot of the same thing (see the sports games such as Madden) or things that a large number of people find to be a bad gaming experience.

There are other elements that go into how some companies are viewed, but my attention span is starting to wander toward food.

Actually I'm pretty sure they stated they messed up in naming it and the episodes are actually Half Life 3:Episode 1/2. So what you're playing is actually Half Life 3 split into parts.

Also I don't see them as the good guys just a comapny with good touch with their fanbase.

The only publisher/developer I think is evil is Bungie, one mediocre game and everyone bows to worship at the altar of Halo. It's insanity that other more creative games haven't developed such a following.

they are the "good guys" because thats how they make the most profit.

I wouldn't doubt for a second they would turn into EA if given the chance.

its quite simple.

Valve games are bought by gamers.
EA published games are purchased by the more casual sheep crowd. (for the most part.)

if valve started making over priced generic garbage consistently, gamers would just move on with little or no problem, and there goes the money.

if however Valve suddenly got a huge casual fan base (Like they did with L4D, L4D2 is a total different story) then you can bet you would see L4D out every single year with new skins. (which is already whats starting to happen)

Developers are usually much better liked than publishers, so comparing valve to EA or activision isn't really fair.
True. But, isn't Valve it's own publisher, too?
Nope. Only for Steam, EA handles their retail publishing.

Define "good guys". I have a lot of respect for Valve because they make quality games (And because they actually care for their older titles, look at the amount of free updates for their multiplayer games). They might take their sweet time, but when they deliver, they deliver quality.

Double Fine is a company I define as "Good guys" though.

Valve is good because of Steam. Steam updates things in a non-stressful way.

EA is evil because of the EA downloader. Using it to update things is like trying to wipe your ass with a cactus.

I also point to my reply on an earlier and similar post:
These companies don't care about gamers. They care about money.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a ton of hippie developers band together and make a non-for-profit game company that only cares about the gamers, but I doubt it will be started by Gab Newman or whatever his name is.

They make great IP for PC's, but I personally think they let their guys talk to the media too much. Commenting on things they have A) No experience with, and B) No willingness to learn about such things, prior to commenting on them.
Probably why most ps3 owners wouldn't consider them "good guys."
"We can't make ps3 games because it's too hard." is becoming a very loose excuse and it was always a little hard to swallow.

I think there's also some L4D1 fans who wouldn't paint them as the good guys either.

I should also probably point out the half dozen "where's ep 3" posts that pop up on these forums every week.

I wouldn't say Valve is the "good guy" and I wouldn't say EA or Activision are the "bad guys." They all do some things we think are cool and some things we think suck.

Except for Bobby Kotick - that guy is the biggest douche in the world.

valve are the heros of gaming at the moment and always show real gamers make the best developers
