In real life? Yes. I live in the cultural back-end of nowhere and have no peers of my own age. I can only imagine I'd get nothing but blank-faced stares or abject disdain if I shared my enjoyment of anime with anyone I ever interact with on a daily, physical basis.

On the Internet? Fuck no! Me avatar is from one of the Anime-est video games I've ever played. I don't hide jack-diddly-squat 'round herr'.

Nobody i know watches it or talks about it except for one friend who moved to england a few years ago so i don't talk about it either. Perhaps i would be more open about it if 70% of it wasn't ecchi. Right now it feels like i would be admitting to being a pedophile.

I consider myself a closet anime lover, as anime is one of my primary interests, but I never ever let random people or people who don't watch it known that I watch it. Like you mentioned, I also feel like there is a certain stigma that comes with watching anime, so I only even admit to watching anime around people that also watch it, or sometimes, people that used to be really into it, but aren't hard on people that still are.

It's just too much trouble and guess work to let general people know what I like without worrying about how they will judge me for it, so I just avoid spilling it altogether. If my parents weren't around back during my weabboo phase(11-13/14), then even my parents probably wouldn't know that I like it. Even though they know that I'm into it, there are still just so many things in anime that can't really be easily explained or excused, which is why I usually pause and/or turn off whatever anime I am watching if they knock, or tab away if I am reading online or something. This also often applies to jrpgs as well.

Maybe people probably will hardly care as much as I think they would, but it's still just a lot less hassle to leave them in the dark entirely.

I'm pretty much the same. I probably wouldn't talk to my dudebro friends about anime because they'd think it was stupid. Do I think you should stop being friends with these people? Not really. If I did tell my dudebro friends about it then they'd probably make fun of me for 2 minutes and then move on. We'd still be friends because, in the end, they don't really care whether I like anime or not. If your friends would judge you just because you watch anime then they're not really your friends at all. I talk about anime with my anime friends, literature with my literature friends, ect. Different friends for different interests.

I'm not a hardcore anime fan, but I enjoy watching it from time to time. I LOVE Berserk for instance. If I don't talk about anime with certain people then it's not because I'm ashamed (why should I be?). It's because they don't like anime and wouldn't know what to talk about.

On a side note my old roommate did manage to get a ton of foot ball players to attend anime club once. They just looked kind of confused for forty minutes then quietly left halfway through. It was pretty funny.

I am open about my interests in anime; people constantly alienate anime. Sure, it's made with a cultural difference in mind (take Sailor Moon into mind; long longed, elegant, busty women with short skirts. Fun fact: They're 14. I puked in my mouth a little when I found that out) and there are many differences in style, but slowly, western cartoons are drifting into anime more and more often.

I mean, Teen Titans is about as anime as you can get without being anime. Like sentai but without sounding eerily similiar to the word "pervert".

I suppose what I'm trying to say but fucking up more and more is that most kids who watch Cartoon Network and watched Toonami before our childhood was ruined by the media, are probably already anime fans without knowing it.

I'm not in the closet when it comes to my appreciation of Anime but there are a number of popular series that I don't like. I'm kinda weird like that...Attack on Titan is huge right now but I can't stand it; I'm more into DMC...no...no, not Devil May Cry, Detroit Metal City. I don't watch anime as often as I used to but there are times when I'm struck with an urge to watch Love Hina, Suzuka or something similar...at least until Saint Oniisan is localized

(because Saint Oniisan is the anime about Jesus Christ and Buddah are living in modern Japan and just being modern guys...trying to hide their divinity and failing awesomely)
