Are you a cynic?

Nope, I'm a counter-cynic. Cynics are all sad bastards who can't appreciate the good things right in front of them because they're too busy trying to take it apart and find the negative points instead of actually doing something constructive. Amazingly enough there is a high concentration of them around leading me to re-evaluate the should've-grown-out-of-it-by-age-16 theory I've been working on.

No, there is very little cause to be optimistic right now. However it's not an excuse to mope around like a sad twat, complaining about everything when you could actually be doing something about it.

Fuck cynics.

No, not usually.
If I'm in a bad mood maybe, but usually I just don't care.

This is how I am. I hope for something good but know the exact opposite will happen.

I'm a cynic that's pretending to be an optimist that's pretending to be a cynic, if you can understand that. So I'd vote yes had this thread included a poll.
So, wait. Do you mean that you're a cynic who wants people to believe that he's an optimist that is masquerading as a cynic. If so, then I'm basically the same as you.

I am quite cynical but I am a very happy person. Basically I am quite aware that the world is going to the shitter, but there isn't much I can do about it so I am just enjoying my life, which means I don't really worry about these things even though I know they are there. Maybe later in life i'll blow some stuff up in protest but until then.

I usually end up being more optimistic than I give myself credit for, although I usually keep a neutral idea of every person, place, and object until I meet it.

Pretty much every thing and every one is either shit or I don't think anything of them until they prove themselves otherwise.

I used to be.

But the words of doing the impossible, seeing the invisible, and row rowing/fighting the powah will always inspire me to have hope, in anything. Even the most crushing of disappointments can never defeat those immortal words.

Even if every human on earth is shit, doesn't mean I have to be.

"Hope is a great thing. Maybe even the best of things."

I do believe Oscar Wilde said, "A cynic is one who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." And that coming from a rather cynical person himself.

I don't believe the world is getting shittier, as it was pretty shitty to begin with. Or perhaps not that shitty at all. It's hard to tell. Anyways, the world has gotten shittier in some aspects, less shitty in others, and about the same in many more. But it does seem that, throughout history, humanity is subtly working towards something, and hopefully it's not nuclear war. But if we survived the Cold War, we probably could survive anything. So I guess despite all the shit, I feel good about it, even if for no other reason to feel good. Even if the whole world is in the shitter, I know there must be at least one good thing around. And so I leave you with a few thoughts if your down.

Among people there are assholes, heroes, and people in between. Don't let the assholes let you down.

The universe may not care about you, but, Dammit, why should you care about the universes opinion?

Idiots are annoying and often mess shit up, but remember, if it weren't for them, what would we smart people laugh at?

I'm an apathetic optimist. I don't care about much but I always look on the bright side of stuff I do care about.

I reckon that always expecting the worst and believing the worst of the world is an incredibly stupid way to go about things. You don't allow yourself to change or to hope. It's a pitiful existence.

No, I'm not a cynic. At least, most of the time.
A few snide remarks never hurt anybody, though.

Just to kick the thread off with some conflict, I'm not a cynic, I'm a raging optimist. I look at human history, and I gotta say, things have generally got better rather than worse. Whatever the current threat to us all is, we've survived all the others that we thought would wipe us out (okay, we've never faced anything like severe climate change, and that one does worry me, but everything else? Peanuts), and average quality of life (and yes, I do mean globally) is better now than it's ever been. I think we're on the up, not the down.
Infact we have survived through quite a few ice ages i'm sure especially when we were in animal furs etc...

Sometimes I can't help it, but most of the time I take this attitude:

'I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.' - Winston Churchill

No I am a cheerful optimist, it isn't my fault the world is such a gloomy and horrible place to live in, filled with hateful and spiteful people who exist just to make each other miserable...

Ok yes, I am a cynical bastard... but you are never disappointed thinking the worse.

I'm quite the optimist, actually. I'm willing to trust anyone at first, unless there's an obvious reason not to. Though I suppose I'm a realist, since I tend to knock people off their high hopes and expectations, then tell the emo kids to suck it the fuck up and that it's nowhere near as bad as they think.

I'm hoping I can make a difference around here, though, once I become a police officer. I won't change the world, I know that, but making one person's life better works, too.

I'm a cynic of course. If you pray for good, you get shit. If you pray for bad things, good happens to you. If you pray for nothing, everything goes your way. I've learned to live that way ever since 7 years ago.

Why be Optimistic?
Be a Pessimist!
It's More Realistic!
