Yeah, I was one of the chefs at Stone Hearth (check it out at www.stonehearthetown.com). That reminds me of a funny story that happened while I worked at a DIFFERENT RESTAURANT. While I was never trained in college how to cook, I once worked under a self-proclaimed "chef" with such training. I saw how he cooked (mostly by precooking, wrapping in plastic, and then microwaving it to order) and told him that I was better chef than him and everybody else there. To prove it, I made the special of the day. Mine was a Shrimp and Linguine Pasta with a sweet and tangy homemade Red Wine Vinagerette Sauce, topped with homemade bruschetta mix and finished with melted toasted feta cheese. Oh, and the garnish was parmesan around the rim of the bowl. Also, I "butter flied" the shrimp and had the sitting up around the bit of bruschetta. So, yeah, that was mine and it sold 1 every 30-45 minutes on a slow day. His response was fish and chips (yeah, it's good but I wouldn't pay $15-20 for it) which sold only 3...including 1 to the manager. They actually asked the crew how to bring up business and customer satisfaction...hmm, throwing away the microwaves? Not allowing the bad attitudes? Not letting people work when they are clearly intoxicated / pissed off? I told them to let me run the place for a month and I would turn it around...I was then fired. Don't get me wrong, I'm not obnoxious, I'm just confident...stupid people. I shouldn't diss my previous employers but I'll say that it was a Italian food franchise that starts with the letter "G". (Points to anyone who can figure that out, extra points if you then boycott the place).

Side note: much to my wife's chagrin, I normally don't cook like that at home. Instead, my personal tastes are more for things that are more simple...like fried chicken, Ravioli from a can, etc. Though, now that I'm living with the in-laws (who now of my former job), they have me cook fancy on occasion...last time was a snack of Raspberry brie tarts topped with toasted almonds.

I know, I misspelled some things, sorry. My excuse: I'm tired.

I strive for improvement all the time. Just went to germany for a weeks time and studied the asian food there (because it's better than in Norway for some reason).

With recipe books its not like it's that hard to cook. I mean if you can't complete 8 simple tasks in order there is clearly something wrong.

I can cook a variety of dishes, and they are all excellent. I am also a terrific baker. I love cooking/baking, so increasing my skill is something I enjoy.

More or less. I have a few recipes that I'm known for (A chip dip, Spinach and artichoke dip, and shrimp alfredo), but other than that I'm passable. I can't bake very well and for some reason I can't cook rice. Go figure.

I'm okay. I can't make anything extravagant, but my Italian instincts handle most of what I need for cooking.

Of course. It's a life skill, right? If you're going to be eating at least 2 meals a day for the rest of your life you had better learn a few good recipes.

My areas of specialisation are Italian and Mexican, but I have been known to venture into Chinese with some success...

My specialty is a skillet fried potato. Cut into slices, seasoned on both sides, cooked until golden brown, and pure deliciousness.
Perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I cook alot of Thai, Indian and Korean style food. While I can make just about anything into a meal, I can not bake to save my life. Which is ironic since my sister is a pastry chef. But for lentil curry or lamb with minto pesto few can compare.

Good enough to (if I had to) cook for myself every night of the week and not have a bad meal.

Sure its not exactly gourmet but its far from inedible as well.

I like to cook different things, I wouldn't say I'm excellent, especially with blander stuff.

I'd really like to be able to cook either Cajun or Creole food but it's nearly impossible to get the more specific ingredients over here, so my Jambalyas tend to be dissapointing compared to what I had in the states.

Anything spicy and it's probably best if I don't cook, seeing as I can take alot hotter than my family. I'll keep tasting something and think it's bland so I'll add more chillis or spices and I love it, then serve it up and it becomes inedible to everyone else.

Anyone else mistake the word cook with another word with a c,o, and k in it?

OT: No, not really. I can make eggs and if I try real hard I can make a burger, but that's it. (Oh, and garlic bread.)
