This pretty much defines my views towards death too, except for being remembered, I'll change that for not being able to leave something meaningful for the next generation.stevedisco said:
This is the main reason it must suck to be an athiest. I don't exactly believe in a heaven or hell, but I do believe in a sort of pantheistic reincarnation. The way I see it the molecules that make up my body, including whichever ones are responsible for consciousnes, will be recycled by nature and eventually wind up as part of some other organism(s). So in a sense I'll live on through other entities.
That is assuming consciousnes is attached to matter at all and not a seperate thing altogether, which I haven't fully ruled out.

I agree 100%. The idea of death seems unbearable only to the living, and especially to those, close to the deceased. Me myself personally - I don't fear death as much as I fear leaving those I love behind. And knowing that they will suffer when I die.
See, I live in Israel. We have conscription. By some marvelous human error severe ostigmatism and lack of depth perception were marked as "slight sharpness problem", and high blood pressure was ignored, so unless I get into the smarty academic program it's off to fire good ol' Tavor there at terrorists. I have come to terms with the possibility of death long ago. So no, I am ready to face it if that's what's needed.

The prospect of death and non-existence terrifies me, as it does everyone. Everyone fears dying, although some people have other things that outweigh the fear, like faith, sacrifice, or an extreme wish to no longer be alive. Right now I'm hoping science will find someway to make me live until I decide I'm ready for death. Come on, science!
i'm cool with death, i am not sure about dying though. depends on the circumstances, i guess.
having cancer and spending the last weeks in pain certainly won't bolster my "coolness", but suffering a "heroic" death (dunno, pushing someone away from an incoming car, getting hit myself, suffering severe internal blunt trauma, bleeding to death (with some luck falling asleep due to hyopxia while endorphines kill the pain)) i maybe able to pull off the serene smile we know from (bad) tv series and movies (that i'd like)
besides that i do not care too much, actually.

Actually, a bit apprehensive about death...what if when you die, there's just no detectable brain activity? You're really wide awake, but immobile. Locked-in syndrome to the extreme. That's why, after my funeral, I want to be exhumed and have my brain removed, cut into tiny pieces and then burned. Then re-bury me.

Fear death? I have no need , I have found the solution to bring about immortality< you don't age while watching the never ending nyan cat, How long can you watch?
