Today Escapist, I had a terribly stupid moment in my life that just made me sit down,
Think for a second,
and then say:

So I just wanted to ask escapist.
What makes you feel so fed up, that you wish you could leave this rock?

( "Pals^-1" Captcha? really?)

Nothing.

But certain things do make me want to punch certain people in the painful places.

On a whole, humanity has a lot of potential. I want to see at least SOME of it come to fruition.

That may require some people being punched in the painful places, luckily :D

I'll join you.

We should start a club.

We need a cool name.

Like, The Mighty Ducks!

Oddly enough, people who use that meme. It's overused, and I think it comes off as whiny. And I abhor whining. Leaving this planet does not change human nature. And getting away from something rather than looking to solve it? I disagree with that tactic.

Nothing. I don't think I've ever seen a problem solved by people sitting down and complaining about it and saying "I have lost faith for humanity"; but people saying "this is a problem" and trying to goddamned do something about it have better results.

I'm staying here until the end or when we begin colonizing Mars.

Count me in, I'll help from the moon.
Even though I've already left, reconnaissance is so easy from up here, so maybe I'll give you information on who needs to be punched in painful places.

Also there's some crazy duck with a cane up here, I figure we can use him to justify the name.

Nothing, but I wouldn't mind people whining like this to actually put their money where their mouth is.

No offense :)

Well, there's never been a better time to be human than today. Despite temporary setbacks here and there we have a tendency to advance and overcome the challenges we face. Until someone manages to restore Louis XVI I'll remain optimistic I feel.

None taken.
If I had sufficient capital to place near enough to my mouth to launch me out of the solar system, I'd totally do that, ASAP.

I might even help some space programs at the same time....

I'd disagree that there's never been a better time to be human. A massive amount of the population lives in poverty, and over- population is only going to make that worse.

Personally, for a Team Name, I wanna throw out 'The Darwinators.'

But what time hasn't there been massive amounts of poverty? Also while far too many people died from conflicts over the twentieth century, more than any before in sheer numbers, that was mainly because the population has been far higher over the last 100 years than in the distant past, percentage-wise for violent or disease deaths it's far more dangerous to live in a tribal or medieval society than a modern one.

Well I'd do that too but not because I hate this place...

I just think exploring the galaxy would be, you know, AWESOME.

If you are in a position which allows you to spend your time whining about the state of the human race, then you probably don't have it so bad compared to most other members of said race.

But even humanities' seemingly bleak chances are mitigated by the fact that we have never in our entire history been more capable of dealing with a problem of this magnitude and complexity, whether its over-population or conservation of resources.

Of that fact I am well aware, however, I am still fed up enough with my own situation, and the possible lifestyles I could live in other situations, to at least believe that another planet of sufficient habitability to support me for at least a fraction of my life would be any number of times greater in overall satisfaction than all I could hope for here.

This idea is bound to change mind you, as I am ridiculously fickle due a bit of instability in my ideals and beliefs, thanks to being an adjusted schizoid who changes personalities all the time and having ADD comparable to a shrew, so I'll probably be totally okay with the planet tomorrow.

Well, as okay as I was before.

I just felt like starting a thread centered around this with two goals:
1. To use that meme simply because it came to mind (fickle ADD acting up).
2. To have an intelligent conversation with some random individuals about random events that perpetuate the idea that this planet is insufferable in nature needs an escape hatch.

Not trying to make a point or whine to the world or anything, just wanted to know if anybody else had experienced such a moment.
