I'm not embarrassed by it

be who you are ^_^ i noticed a lot of you saying your shy about it when chatting to boy/girl
surely if that person gives you a funny look they aren't worth talk to lol and any way these days most people think just because they have a wii or a 360 and have played some old classics they can call themselves a gamer..sad

why should any one tag themselves just because we enjoy games? =/ i still get guys making faces because i play halo or half life's because i'm a girl lol

they weren't making faces after i kicked his ass (on xbox live of course)

I don't get embarassed about playing games not at all.

But I do like to listen to game music, and I can get a bit embarassed about that but usually I just listen to it at home or on my mp3 player so no one will ever know.

I'm not ashamed to be a gamer, it's probably a lot more 'conversation worthy' than my other hobbies like collecting Transformers.

I may suck at most games compared to some people, but I enjoy myself... And that's what matters right? In the end i get to come home and relax in my own way.

Hells no. Never. I could give a crap what people think about the fact that I am a 33 year old man who play a lot of video games. They can bloody well piss off.

Good lord, no, why should I be? I'm an adult, I work very hard, and I get to spend my free time however I see fit. I do it gaming. If other folks think that's odd, that's fine - I don't judge my self worth by whether or not others approve of my leisure activities.

alot of the games music directors are classically trained, no need to feel ashamed young one, classical music is the shiznit, take Halo for example... Halo 3 got a bit triumphently up its arse with the over use of trumpets but the dude is shit hot on the classical circuit, and the theme tune to Halo is EPIC.

Take wipEout and destruction derby, my namesake ColdStorage did the music for them both, Techno and Thrash Metal, give the guy some kudos going from such polarizing genres.

Nope. Most people play at least some form of video game these days, it's kind of the norm. Mind you, I don't use it as my first avenue of conversation, but that's often because there's more interesting things to talk about, or I know my audience is one who doesn't care.

Only when I talk to girls at bars, unless they mention it first. Then I slowly gage their geekiness and reveal mine gradually based on that. I may have thought about this too much...
I'm the same way usually, except I tend to use this tactic with anybody and everybody, not just girls I'm flirting with.

Not really. What I do with my free time is my own deal, so I don't really see what's there to be embarassed about. It's just part of who I am, and what I like to do.

If anything, I'd think someone who has something to say about MY habits is lower than I am, since I don't give a shit what they do with their time, yet they seem to be so lame that they care about what I do with mine.

Gaming is only wasting time if you feel like it's taking time away from other things that you'd rather be doing, or should be doing, in which case... just go out and do them.

I've heard some people say shit like "Oh, you wasted $60 on a video game?", to which I reply "Yeah, and it'll give me hours of enjoyment, while you wasted $100 dollars on a night of drinking/partying/whatever, that only lasted you one night and left you feeling sick in the morning." People spend their time and money on far stupider things than video games in my opinion, but then that's where people's own opinions on the what they personally think the value of whatever they spend on comes into play. So while some girl may think that a video game is an immature waste of money, I don't see how it's any less mature than spending up to $200 on an outfit they'll wear maybe two or three times (these are real examples I've encountered by the way). But to each their own.

I think it's kind of easy for some people to be embarassed at playing video games since to a lot of non-gamers, gamers are still stereotyped as "friendless nerds", and since humans are such social animals, "friendless nerd" is a pretty insulting label. I guess some people still don't get that gamers aren't all socially awkward kids who hang out forever in their moms basement trying to get that high score. Ah well...

Hell no I'm never ashamed! Be proud of your gamer lifestyle and laugh at those who do not indulge with the art that is videogames!

Nope. Never have been, even when talking to girls. Sure, it doesn't usually come up in conversation much outside my group of friends, but I'm not going to lie to someone to impress them or fit into what they like.
I like what I like. If someone doesn't want to know me because of that, I'm not going to lose sleep over it...

I am never embarrassed about being a gamer, and if a girl doesn't like video games I have no interest in impressing her anyway.

If anything, I think "hardcore" gamers, the ones who refuse to play any game that doesn't have Grizzled Space Marines? shooting things in grayish-brown ruins, are the ones who are ashamed of gaming.

for some weird reason, all of my friends and basically all the people I know hate videogames. So yes, there is a slight embarrassment in doing something everyone around me hates.

It's not exactly fair, those people have never even tried a videogame in their entire lives and tend to make me feel bad about playing

I'm an indie game developer as well as a gamer. I'm not bothered by it though, most people that know me know I'm a gamer/maker and accept it fully.

I lol'd :3

Tbh, I think of it as just a hobby? Like watching films and reading books is a hobby... So is playing games. And I don't see how it is embarrassing, its just an interest and gives you something extra to talk about :L
