Much better than MW 2, but then a game about a disabled cat on a unicycle would beat that piece of crap.

Plus where I live there were too small earthquakes (3.6 on the scale) and I genuinely didn't notice them because I was playing the black ops campaign.

Seriously? What was THAT bad about MW2. I have never met the 'noob tube brigade', the story was okay (until they tie it up then for me it's 'meh'), the multiplayer was not full of 'ZOMG PWNSUM 3PIC W!N N0 SK177Z' weapons. If there was an especially nooby Winchester running around then I got out a SPAS 12 FMJ Stopping power with a SCAR Heartbeat. After they switched classes it was back to the F200 and my USP.

Played the single player, I realized then that it was the same cliches as every other new fps. OH NOE DEM COMMIES GON NUKE US, LETS LET A GUY WHO WAS CRAZY FIVE MINUTES AGO FLY A HELICOPTER. It's also the first game to make me feel sorry for the Nazis, but not the main character. It was quite a waste of money.

Yeah, I second this post. It was so full of 'macho one man army' shit it was unbearable. HOW did Woods of all chars win the best character award?

'I've just been in the cockpit of a C130 which fell off a cliff. Then stamped on. Then tortured (for quite a while I guess). Now I'll just guess which bit the bullet is in, kill the bookie THEN kill everyone else. THEN STEAL A BLOODY HIND!'

How can they fly properly and then fight through the whole level after that treatment? Oh yeah. They're MACV-SOG, SOOOOO amazing.

OT: Unless you REALLY want to play the new zombies, give it a miss. Apart from CoD 3 this is the only one in which I have felt I wasted my money at all. The zombies is harder so you can't settle down for a LEISURELY game. They are annoyingly hard! I wanted a
Reach-esque options system. Turn on unlimited double points, double player health, increase zombie count exponentionally. It would be a blood bath that only Richtofen could dream of!

But no.

If you have MW2 and/or WAW then stick with those:
zombies of WAW is better than BlOps zombies
MW2 Multiplayer and WAW multiplayer are better than BlOps MP
BOTH campaigns are better than BlOps'

Im enjoying the Zombies mode. Campaign was meh. Really meh. But dem zombies are just awesome. If you loved the zombies from WaW then I would highly recommend Black Ops. As for the multiplayer, I prefer it over the older CoDs. But I hated the older CoD multiplayer, and this is only marginally better, mainly thanks to the Wager Matches.

If you were looking at Demons Souls then get that over Black Ops.

My enjoyment curve for Black Ops has had it's up and downs. In the beginning it was awesome because everything was new, then people started to overuse the more overpowered aspects of the game quite a lot so I stopped playing it. And now again recently I've started enjoying Black Ops since people are actually using different stuff, in a way they enjoy the most, making for varied gameplay.

The singleplayer however... it was rather "meh", which is wierd for me, as I'd usually spend more time in singleplayer in the CoD-series. The story wasn't as smooth as I'd liked it to be, was too many time-skips for my liking. I enjoyed seeing (and enjoyed even more playing as) Reznov in the story.

If you want a good story, go somewhere else.
If you want a new and interesting multiplayer that hasn't been done before, go somewhere else.
If you want a game with a short and pretty 'Meh' story with multiplayer similar, if not the same as, MW2, but with extra weapons, then here is your game.

While the game is fine, I do have one major issue with it. I hate the players. Literally.

What is it with Black Ops players? Everyone goes Noob this, Noob that, ****, dick, asshole, true players dont use last stand, campers are bitches, my team is shit, my team is full of retards, I lost because of my team, we raped those bitches and so on.

Seriously! Why everyone turns their dickhead switch on when they play the game? I'd like to play a game where everyone wouldn't be hostile towards others, allies or not.

also I noticed MW2 also LOOKS BETTER.
I know. It really does. Black Ops is one ugly ass game.
Oh yeah. Hella ugly. It's like I'm watching 2007 all over again. Which would be GREAT if it was still 2007.. but yeah.

OT: Sure, I'm enjoying it. But I'm not relishing it. Come to me, all ye who are weary of the Prestige grind, and I will agree wholeheartedly; I was under the impression the credit unlock system was supposed to improve multiplayer, not make me bored to tears. Modern Warfare 2 at least had a billion things to unlock. While having to earn each and every attachment was annoying, nothing to say that system couldn't have been improved upon.

But, Treyarch knows best, of course. At least the game isn't completely broken. Lord knows how many Call of Duty games it took to get that little niggle ironed out.

Also, would it have killed them to use the IW4 engine? It's like Weird Science, where they pick the average looking girls over the Kelly LeBrock.

Honestly if you're sick of MW2 don't bother. Black Ops isn't that much different. I'd recommend Demons' Souls.
Then again I'm a little bit biased, since I kind of hate CoD in general.

My problem with it is it doesn't do anything better than MW2, and does many things worse.

I realize as a military historian I probably care about little details more than the average person, but to me it's game-breaking when Treyarch shows off their utter ignorance of weapons in COD Black Ops.

Another poster has already listed them, but I'll touch the high points:

- The vast majority of available weapons in the game were *not* available during the time period the game supposedly occupies. Indeed, a number of the weapons didn't come out until the 1980's, for a game which has the last single player op in the 1960's. We can argue until the cows come home about 'prototypes' or Black Ops getting them much earlier than the production date, but it's too much.

- Actual, existing weapons of the time period were ignored almost entirely. I don't know if Treyarch wanted to avoid any weapons already in MW2, but they ignored dozens of weapons from the time period in favor of things which, to me, made no sense.

Example: the Thumper, the single-shot break-open Grenade launcher, was in heavy use during Viet Nam, but is ignored (except for the 'China Lake', which I won't even comment on due to how ridiculous a pump-action 40mm grenade launcher is.)

I could understand if the time period had few weapons to choose from- but it didn't. It came across as the makers of the game simultaneously trying to avoid MW2 weapons but at the same time trying to pick weapons that 'looked cool' without regard to how effective those weapons actually were.

Case in point: the M72 LAW. I have prestiged several times, and to get Ghost Pro I had to wait until level 30 to get the Strela, a two-shot launcher with a lock-on mode. The reason I waited was I *had no idea* they had put a lock-on mode on the LAW...because the very idea is so insane my mind would not process it. The M72 LAW? A disposable, low-powered warhead unguided rocket? And it has an anti-aircraft lock-on mode???

I realize that many people see that and don't even blink...but to me, that's like saying "oh yes, the Chevy Blazer has a 'submarine mode'. What, you didn't know all Chevy Blazers could be sealed and drive around underwater like a nuclear sub?"

Honestly, there are times when I think it is completely broken.

Today I played 3 games and had to stop as the rage was starting to build up... ran into so many goddamn Ghost/Second Chance/AK74u Rapid fire users. It's such bullshit that I kill them fair and square and the game then says 'here you go, have a chance to kill him back!'

I hate Second Chance so, so much.

Yea, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected.
I was just planning on renting it but my wife bought it the week it came out to play with her friends. The campaign is solid, the multiplayer is fun & has cool loadout options. The zombie parts are great, especially the Five map... just plane hilarious.

However, I would probably not be having as much fun if I had played through all the Modern Warfares and Bad Companies. This is the only military fps I have for this gen and it's probably going to be the only one I need. I don't usually play these kinds of games.

So, if you just finished MW2 or some other similar game, I would say wait and get it for cheaper. However, I would say it's more purchase worthy than Mass Effect 2, GoW3, or Demon Souls. The first two are rentable and I would highly recommend trying Demon Souls before buying. It's not for everybody.

Mate, at times like those, you need to go on a noob tube spree. Or get up close and shoot them in the face with one of the shotguns and follow it up immediately with a teabag so that they see it. It's cathartic, like beating your wi- no.. punching a ba- no... mastur- no..

I don't know, but it feels goooooood.

It was my first long-term CoD game, and I really don't like it. It was fun in the beginning when I got Ghost Pro, but it suddenly crashed as soon as I took it off after realizing how unfair it was. The main problem for me is that everyone can get killed by a good 5 bullets, but the aim and recoil was just so bothersome that it essentially ruined most of my fun. The fun that stayed was destroyed by RCXD and Second Chance, both of which are really broken.

And I didn't play the campaign at all. I may be new to the CoD series, but I know that the main focus is Multiplayer.

Yeah. I just threw on MW2 and ran around ground war with a SPAS 12. Then that annoyed me too so I played Half Life 2 instead :D
