Are You Happy?

I've been unhappy for quite some time for no apparent reason. A while back, I began reading the 道德經 (Tao Te Ching), which has amazing insight into "the Way," essentially, the entirety of everything in the Universe, or what is...a difficult concept to explain, especially since nobody apparently can grasp it.

Anyway, since reading it and other works, I've come to be "happier," or at least "contented" or disconnected from extreme emotional difference. Especially, I found Chapter 2 (Abstraction) extremely enlightening and helpful:

When beauty is abstracted
Then ugliness has been implied;
When good is abstracted
Then evil has been implied.

So alive and dead are abstracted from nature,
Difficult and easy abstracted from progress,
Long and short abstracted from contrast,
High and low abstracted from depth,
Song and speech abstracted from melody,
After and before abstracted from sequence.

The sage experiences without abstraction,
And accomplishes without action;
He accepts the ebb and flow of things,
Nurtures them, but does not own them,
And lives, but does not dwell.

So, I guess I agree with OakTaooper that happiness is a myth. We create happiness and sadness, instead of just accepting things as they are. To introduce categories is to make handling issues more difficult.

Therefore, I'm becoming more contented and accepting, but still not completely able to discard "happiness" and "unhappiness," which means I'm not completely happy. Ugh.

I am happy with myself and always have been. I find it difficult to comprehend people who hate themselves or the life situation they find themselves in. I always thought that if someone isn't happy with things, do something to change that. Granted, it's not always easy but some people who are "unhappy" don't even try at all... the post above is an example of someone who is trying very hard to change that unhappiness and for that I respect them.

I am happy with portions of my life, but not entirely.
Within my own skin, most of the time, but overall, yes.

Englishman with a cup of tea and some chocolate digestives.

Rest of the house could be on fire, I'd still be happy.

I've had a good week; crashing my car, breaking up with GF (for some reason that acronym always reminds me of FFVIII), etc.

So in answer, no, I am not currently happy.

An easy question: are you happy in your own skin?
I am... I just feel comfortable being me!
Not particularly.

Which is why I'm collecting new skin!

There is absolutely no fucking reason for me to not be happy.
My parents love me, I have awesome friends.
And more importantly, I wake up every morning.

I'm happy as long as Dream Theater is continued to be belted out of my speakers, there is still cake in that tin down in the kitchen, and I have some ice cream sometime soon (mmm, ice cream).

So yes, I'm happy, because I have all of the above. You can call me Mr. Happy McHappyson.

I have giant dents and scars on the top of my head, suffer emotional and psychological problems severe enough where I lost my career and have retired on disabillity. I wonder how I will survive for the long term on social security. I'm fat, sick, tired, stressed, and angry with medication that doubtlessly contributes to all of these things.

No, I'm not especially happy. It probably comes out in a lot of my posts.

Doubtlessly there are people who have it far worse than me, so don't take this the wrong way, however that doesn't make my existance any more fun.

I've said all this before, but since someone started a topic... :p

At any rate, congrats to all of you who are happy and content. I am actually jealosu.

Happiness is just a mythical concept that doesn't actually exist yet people believe in it because they want to feel like their life isn't meaningless... But surprisingly, yes. I am happy with my current situation.
Happiness is a feeling. Doesn't love and anger exist either then?

I'm happy with myself as a person, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm happy ¬¬

Some people aren't happy when I'm being me, lol.

Nah, I am nowhere near happy. Haven't been since May. Haven't eaten anything in days, either. Doubt I will be happy anytime soon, too, so... eh.

Strangely enough, I turned seventeen today and now I feel really uncomfortable in my own skin. I feel like I now have to actually start planning beyond next year..
Yeah life is a ***** and it will do that to you.
OT: I am happy with who and what I am but just not where I am.
