My only console, my Xbox 360 came down with a rather nasty case of 'Red rings of death' from which it was unable to recover from. All the consoles are tailored to a specific market, Wii targets the casual market, PS3 targets the 'Graphics' market while the xbox 360 is more for hardcore gamers.
Good try but no.

Wii = Casual
PS3 = RPG/Fighting/
360 = Shooters

PS3 and 360 split the action category

Evidence? Look at each system's top games:

PS3: Uncharted, God of War, Disgaea 3
360: Mass Effect, Halo, Gears of War
Honestly, the consoles this time around are pretty casual by comparison. A lot of people who buy consoles mainly want something they can kill a few hours on. Though there are people who you could characterize as "Hard core", but the main target of these companies is similar to what Nintendo is doing, except Nintendo is more "Family Friendly" casual.

Also, I hate to do this, but you can't use Mass Effect as Microsoft's top game, since it's on all platforms. The PS3 titles you listed are fine since they are exclusive.

As far as making the switch, I made the switch from the 360 to the PS3 after my second RROD. I refused to spend any more money in something so unreliable for the price tag. Though I will always get the PC version of any game first, if I have to get a console game, it's usually for the PS3.

Personally, its dumb as a gamer to hate another system simply because it is competition to your prefered system. I hate the PS3 not because I love the 360, but because it, and Sony since it released the PS3 are seriously losing it. The PS2 was the King of last gen. But since then Sony went mad and said lots of stupid things and thought stupid ways.
Optimally, its best to have all the systems.

I had the same problem, I loved Sony (had a ps2 and loved it, I even still play it occasionally) and then Sony decided to price their console at $800. So I got suckered into buying a Wii. When that didn't pan out I bought a 360, and have been happy with my purchase.

Still wish I had a ps3 sometimes though. Some of those exclusives are pretty sick.
At the beginning of the console race, my friend and I compared the starting price of a PS3 with the starting price of a 360 (starting price meant the total cost of having everything for HD gaming, including appropriate cables, internet adapter, and the first games) and we found that the 360 was nearly $150 more expensive than the PS3.

I've owned all three consoles and I have two gaming PC rigs. The 360 was the most disappointing of all 4 gaming choices. I'll say it once, and I'll say it again. The only advantage I can see that the 360 has over the PS3 is marketing.

I know there's the hack thing, but to me, as a consumer, it hardly matters. And to be honest, I thought Sony's handling of the situation was commendable.

Another point: a couple months ago, the same friend and I compared 360 exclusives to PS3 exclusives. we found that the PS3 has overall a more diverse pool of exclusives (meaning a variety of genres), while also overall better quality (when you look at metacritic and/or game of the year awards received).

Frankly, I've become more and more of a PC gamer, but I just don't understand why people like the 360 so much.

Accept for marketing. Goddamm marketing!
I bought a Wii first (cheapest of the consoles), then got a 360 some time later, after there was a price drop. Not sure what you considered "necessary" but I got my 360 and all the stuff I needed for well under $800.

And what was so disappointing about it? I never really saw much of a problem.

Also, diversity of exclusives mean nothing at all, and metacritic is never an end all tool for comparing scores. There are different games for each console, and they all have their target audience. Marketing has nothing to do with it.

You and I share similar thoughts. I should point out that not only does the PS3 have a better variety of exclusives spread across numerous genres, a lot of the Xbox exclusives end up being ported to another platform anyway.

I switch consoles all of the time.
I can't play XBox 360 and PS3 at the same time (unless I had access to my clone from another thread, that is)!

I would only feel the need to remain loyal to one system over the others if they were Consoloids [http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_J_Tj7C6oEH0/S5Ci_5rQO5I/AAAAAAAAAao/NUwHFheXWR4/s400/59321__468x_ps3-tan-xbox-360-tan-by-mike-inel.jpg] and even then, I'd wonder why they are so insecure that we can't all be friends together.

inevitably I've always managed to buy all three consoles... though with my growing up and all that no longer seems to be the case for this world.

With the next generation I'll sit back for a while and make a list of games I want to play with the next big 3 while I hold out with my Xbox and PS3 and then decide which console I want to make my main based on quality and quantity of games. For example If I had to pick one console from this generation? 360 all the way. Generation before that? PS3. Before that? PSONE. Before that? Genesis. Before that? NES.

I remember when this new console generation came out I was still fairly young and not into video games so I didn't care about either. I was perfectly happy with a PS2. Well then for my birthday my dad surprised me with a 360 and I thought it was pretty cool until last year when it broke for the 4th time so I switched to PS3. Both are fine consoles, I can't say I've lost a wink of sleep because I haven't owned either at one point. (As in when I didn't have a PS3 I didn't care, now I don't have a 360 I don't care, I think I worded it weird.)

I was on Microsoft's side for quite a while, laughing at the crazy decisions Sony was making to compete. Then Microsoft dropped backward compatibility, even doing so while some games (in Australia at least) would work only for two levels due to unchecked bugs. Then I started getting RROD problems, assisted by pitiful tech support. Then Microsoft got me to make an account and pay them to use the indie network before telling me I wasn't eligible (that ordering is borderline abusive). Then Microsoft wouldn't let me cancel that subscription and took every cent I had. Then Microsoft banned me for not having money. By the time they unbanned me some seven months later, I'd become fed up with them.

I now have a nice PS3 to play on when I need a console, or more often I just go to PC now that I have one capable of running high-end games. I have all the primary consoles so exclusive titles aren't an issue, but given the choice between PS3 and 360, I'll certainly take PS3. Even with this whole Sony fiasco, they've not screwed me over nearly as much as Microsoft has.

Last generation I had a PS2, Xbox and a Gamecube, this time around I own a PS3. I don't play online so the recent data leak has not really affected me in any way, but I want to keep my options open for the next generation, see what comes out. I have thought about buying an Xbox 360 as that has "Deadly premonition", one of my favourite games, but at the moment I have neither the money or the inclination to buy a console for one game.

A Console Switch? Why would I do that? I'm happy with my touch sensitive Power Button on my 360 Slim!

And that my friends, is me saying Thank you and goodnight!

I buy the Nintendo consoles and I bought a PS3 to get at some of the current gen console games (many of which have no Wii counterparts). I don't have the money or the gumption to buy a 360 since in my mind the PS3 and XBox are identical in many ways. I mostly game on my computer now, for better or worst, because Steam is just easier to use for me. Boo on Sony for not having good security/screw the pouch in public relations but I really don't care enough to change the console that a use a for a handful of games to another I would use for a handful of games.

no will do, i have both consoles, with my 4 RROD the 360 turned a brick until they replaced my consoles over and over, with PSN down i still can play my huge collection of rpg's including my present game of Xenogears upscaled to 1080p that i previeously buyed on PSN store.

I can wait the long it takes to fully use PS3 again no problem.
to be sincere i havent turned on my 360 since last year. i only buyed it to play Fable and DoA games, and Fable 3 turned me down on the series and DoA hasn't beign released in a long while.
My main console stilll its and will be for a while the PS2, and all of my JRpg's.

I don't understand the arrogance thing you have against Sony(serious, I'm clueless :().

OT: No, I'm not switching. I've been paying attention to the 360s line up(past and present) and I've never seen enough to warrant the money. I could count the 360 exclusives on one hand that interest me and one isn't out yet(not bashing, just my own personal taste). The Wii has even less that interests me. And the PC, well I recently just spend $400 on a laptop and there is no way I'm going to spend even more for a rig that can play most games on decent settings.

Nope. I'm not at all excited about the data breach but I've invested far too much money in my PS3 game collection to abandon the black box. The only thing I will change is removing my credit card from the PSN Store and switch to prepaid cards.

Generally it's a PC for multiplats and PS3 for exclusives

The 360 has nothing to offer me besides space power rangers
