Well I live in Newcastle so it's obligatory to support Newcastle United, even with their current dire form (seriously, the dressing room is toxic and the players either don;t give a fuck, do give a fuck but are crap or do give a fuck and get booked constantly.)
I feel your pain you poor person you, I'm an Aston Villa supporter and the club has been a mess since our owner stopped giving a shit and decided to make us exist on almost no investment. Best players being sold, sometimes for a pittance (if you can call £8 million a pittance) or allowed to walk for free. I feel your pain.

Are you a member of the Barclays Premier League user group? If not then you should join, our numbers are few but we are a friendly bunch. Plus we need supporters of other teams to balance out the sheer number of Liverpool supporters:)
The worst thing is that we did invest in new players, one has been noted as one of Frances worst players (Thauvin) Mitrovic gets sent off and attracts so many cards even the club jokes about it (but is back for chelsea thank god) and I can;t remember the third signings name (Mmeba?) but he's doing alright.

Cisse is shit. Janmaat is our best attacker and he's a right back lolwut.

I'm a Liverpool fan. We spent £77 million this summer gross with a net spend of £27 million. And we lost 3-0 at home to West Ham three weeks ago; their first win at Anfield in fifty-two years.

*headdesk* Its going to be a very long season...and I've got a sneaking suspicion that the title is going to be another game of "who can throw it away the hardest" looking at the way most of the other supposed "top" teams are playing. Chelsea in particular is having a dire time of it.

Anyway, I see people are talking about Gridiron in a topic about Football. I watched gridiron once on BBC live stream a few years back. I think it was the Superbowl or something? Kinda entertaining. It reminded me of a brawl crossed with chess. Like...you have all these players carefully laid out and positioned and give them orders...then they all charge at one another and beat the hell out of everyone in a different uniform. I'd probably watch it from time to time if it was ever on but last time I tried to see if the Superbowl was being streamed on the BBC again it was just a radio broadcast. :-\

-Seahawks
-Cardinals beat Patriots. I'm tempted to go with Packers to win, but Cardinals finally have the two pieces missing from last year: a QB and a running game. If(IF!!!!) they stay healthy, they will crush people.
-Good surprise: Raiders(but still not make the playoffs), bad surprise: Seahawks. They'll still make the playoffs, but it will be as a low wildcard.
Offense MVP: Brady. I know you said no QBs, but let's be serious here. There has only been three times in NFL history that a non-QB or RB has won it and there aren't any RBs really catching my eye this season.
Defense MVP: lol

We should necro this thread on Super Bowl week so we can laugh at ourselves.

I don't really follow football until the Superbowl hits, but I'm not one of those lame-o hipsters who claims to only watch it for the commercials. I actually DO know the rules, enjoy the game, and yes, I watch it for the football. Yes, it means my choice of which team I root for is arbitrary (I picked the Seahawks 2 years ago because I like birds, and the patriots last year because literally half my family is from Massachusetts), but then, it's really not any more arbitrary than anyone else's reason for rooting for a team when you think about it.

Football is an exciting game that is fun to watch, fun to play, and fun to talk about as long as you talk with people who are at about the same depth as you (I get super lost talking to people who know, say, the names of most of the roster of any given team). It's certainly more exciting than soccer. The concussions are unfortunate, though. Someone should do something about that.

Fantasy football is for nerds, though. Every time I hear someone talk about it I just want to hang them from a flagpole by their underwear. So lame. Anyway, back to my DnD...

I would love to be into US football but I am too small and weak and am afraid I will be crushed by the larger hairier players and fans. I hope that you all at the very least have a lovely time watching the fine men play their sport.

Jacksonville (Been a fan since the team was formed) Jaguars.

Chicago (Family are all fans so I guess I am too) Bears.

It's been a tough decade, man, I tell ya.

Superbowl? Far too early to tell, but I'm feeling some AR/KC/NE this year.
Surprise good? ...Jags! Ha. Ha. Haaaa. Please? Pretty please? We beat the Dolphins at least, fuck.
Surprise bad? Right there with ya on the Colts. They're gonna crash and burn.

MVPs? Dude, I have no idea. Don't really follow players outside of my own teams, if even them.

Great quote I once heard: 'Fantasy Football is Dungeons and Dragons for guys who used to beat up people who played Dungeons and Dragons'.

Well, being as it's my hometown, I'm a Bills fan and...

*waits for the laughter to die down*

...Honestly I've actually got a decent feeling about the team this year, Rex Ryan has done some MAJOR reshuffling of things and so far it seems to be paying off in spades (sure, we lost to New England the other day, but damn if we didn't score 19 points in that 4th quarter). I think we're going to end up with a defense to be reckoned with once they're warmed up, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how the offense has been doing as well (still PISSED that they axed Fred Jackson though)

Superbowl/MVP predictions and such I'd say it's really too soon to even try to predict, but I'm hoping the Bills can at least pull it together to make off-season for the first time since...Fuck...I can't even remember :(

I loved it when Mourinho complained about Arsene "whingeing" after his loss. Pot, kettle etc. Benteke was a good signing but they could've bid lower than they did... I saw a great tweet from Smug Sherwood "People keep saying we lost Benteke. We got £34 million for him, it's not like he's down the back of the sofa"

But yes, it does look like a fuck up contest, bar the almighty LEICESTER #NoLosses.

49ers, proud owners of the worst offseason in NFL history.
Packers over Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Surprise success: Arizona, who might take the NFC West from the Seahawks
Surprise Failure: Eagles or Texans
Offensive MVP, Aaron Rogers.
Defensive MVP: JJ Watt (really going out on a limb on that one).

You have my deepest sympathies. I'm old enough to remember in the 90's when the Bills went to the Superbowl 3 times in a row (or was it 4?) and lost every time.

For the life of me, I can't understand why people were acting Rex Ryan was such a hot commodity this off-season. Has he ever been even halfway decent as a HC? He completely ran the Jets into the ground, yet people seem to think he's some sort of defensive genius, but I haven't seen any real evidence of it.

Oh trust me, I remember well the wonderful days of Buffalo being a force to be reckoned with lol, I'm of the opinion that it's been shitty decisions by management ever since that keep holding us back. As for the Ryan thing, I didn't really follow much before he came to Buffalo, but so far I'm looking at it as can't argue with results, things are starting off pretty well, so all I can do is hope from here lol.

Rex is a really great defensive mind. Just keep him on the other side of a 10 foot thick steel wall when it comes to picking offensive players.

Well now I feel kind of bad for him. The Jets' defense is kicking ass, but since he got fired as HC he probably won't get any credit for it.

Seahawks, for sports I've always like Seattle's teams, even though I've only ever lived in New York.
I don't actually know or care. I don't really follow football aside from playoff and super bowl highlights.
I think the surprise team will be the Jaguars. I don't know anything about them other then the fact that they sucked in Madden, therefore they are underdogs (or cats).

Buffalo has shown to have a potent defense of their own. Tyrod Taylor has been very good so far, so maybe it was more the Jets front office than Rex that couldn't develop the offense. Buffalo is my dark horse pick to make the playoffs.

Football... in the European sense that is >:D
In the whole-world-but-USA sense, really.
And parts of Australia too, depending on which code is dominant in the region.

OT: I don't usually pay much attention to the NFL, as it doesn't really get that much coverage Down Under on free-to-air TV (and I don't have Foxtel because I'm not at home much to make good use of it). After the whole thing with Jarryd Hayne I tried watching a game or two, but it didn't really grab my attention. I'd watch the Superbowl if I were near a TV while it was on, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.

Right now, a wild card slot isn't out of the question. I'd love to see my Raiders win the AFC West, but that may be a year or two away. Latavius Murray's form has highlighted how ridiculous it was for the team to lean so heavily on Mojo and McFadden last season, when there was this talented youngster itching for an opportunity to show what he can do. Carr-to-Cooper could be a lethal combination for years to come.

Your first mistake was watching a Niners game. That club is in the toilet right now-- Hayne hype aside, prospective Australian fans are going to be watching a dysfunctional team duke it out for the #1 draft pick. It's worse than the league's annual (glorified) mid-season exhibition game in London.

I didn't really have much choice in the matter (It was that game or nothing at all), but I'll keep that in mind for the future :p

-Too early to tell but I preferred Raiders pick Leonard Williams instead of Amari Cooper. Cooper has been great so I hope I'll be wrong about my preference come season's end.
-Khalil Mack has been amazing last Sunday as well. I guess the new coaching staff really knows how to use him effectively
-British fan of the Raiders? How does that happen? Must have quite the story.
