Are You Worried About Skyrim

Yes I have played Oblivion and Fallout 3 and enjoyed both games immensely, however, they were always games to be played in bursts. I don't think I sat down with either one for more than a couple of hours before moving to something else.

The reason? The stories and characters. I know this is a common complaint, but man do these games have to pick up the pace. How many times have NPCs died or not shown up for some arbitrary reason? How many times have you tried to do a quest only to have no idea what to do because some script wouldn't run? How many times have you run into characters that look alike or are hard remember or distinguish? How many times have you run into glitches that take you out of the experience?

This lack of polish and detail always made me a little disappointed when I explore the lands. It also makes me worried about Skyrim. Now I'm not going to get Skyrim opening day, hell I'll probably get it after a year or so when the price drops and its all patched up, so obviously I'm not as big a fan as most on the internet. I'm worried that so many people will be so excited for Skyrim that it will get super high ratings and GOTY awards even if it ends up falling short, or that many people will feel like they wasted their money on a game they thought was going to be perfect but had issues.

I don't think Skyrim doesn't deserve GOTY. I can't say, I haven't played it yet. I'm just worried that peoples excitement may ruin the game for them, and may cause them to overlook other great games this year (I'm looking at you Skyrim vs Dark Souls topics).

EDIT: I'm not worried about bugs. I haven't experienced many, and not too many severe ones. I just know that these are common complaints people have had, and was curious about peoples' opinions on the matter.

I honestly think in order for something to be my GOTY it needs to be great in all areas. Gameplay, story, graphics, stability, etc. I would never have called God of War 3 my GOTY since its story is completely stupid at this point. Fallout New Vegas or Mass Effect 2 couldn't be mine since New Vegas had stability problems up the ass while Mass Effect 2 had a huge amount of glitches all over, a main story that was completely horrid, and writing that was only good half of the time. Guess what my RPG of 2010 was. I bet no one will.

Ys Seven for the PSP

While I can fully understand what Bethesda try to do with The Elder Scrolls games by trying to pack as much as they possibly can into the game when it barely runs is that price worth it?

Well Bethesda did say they would change up the faces and improve dialogue with NPCs. You know no more awkward staring into my soul. As for the glitches I do see them having to release patches as with all Bethesda games. I hate those glitches that F up quests but, it won't hurt Skyrim that badly as it will be most likely be patched.

They are fun, but don't really excel in any one area (though combat is fun) except in terms of how you can build your character.

Bethesda has had five opportunities to fail us so far, and say what you will about Arena and Daggerfall, they haven't let us down yet.

From what I've seen in all of the videos, that doesn't seem to be the case. People still just stare at you, the only difference now being that they are usually doing something while staring at you, unless they are doing something that requires them to move around.

As for dialogue, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm crazy excited for this game, but I'm still holding onto my reservations (<-more than one meaning). The assignment or triggers to either hand seems like it might be alittle awkward compared to the attack/block, separate button for magic set up of Oblivion.

I couldn't be any less worried. I don't even plan on buying it, so no worries for me.

It's one of those things where I know without a doubt that I will not be disappointed.

Oblivion was my favorite game of all time, and I only played that on the Console. Knowing that it's got over a hundred hours of gameplay time and just by how beautiful it looks, I'm bound to be addicted. The only way they can screw it up is if everything they've shown so far turns out to just purely not be in the game.

I'm not even begining to put Skyrim up there with the likes of Morrowind. I have a feeling it will be good, and I will enjoy it, but for some reason I have a feeling that Bethesda's golden years were over back around 2005-2006...

Plus, IMO Skyrim looks a lot like Oblivion but with slightly better graphics and a bigger budget.

How many times? Not enough that I can remember any.

There are no games more immersive than those made by Bethesda. Pick up the pace? I don't even know what you're talking about.

Look, I play vanilla freaking New Vegas. Nothing, nothing I tell you, fazes you after that. I could end up having to play Skyrim backwards and upside down, and it would still be less buggy than New Vegas.

You want me to be completely honest with you? Bethesda games are pretty bad. Bethesda are great--but not at making games. They make frameworks. They're fairly good at filling them again, but the real icing with Bethesda--moreso than any other game or team of developers--are the mods and modding community. As long as Skyrim can be modded, modders will fix just about any of your gripes with the game.

So, no, I'm not worried about Skyrim. In fact, I'm 99% sure it will be a huge disappointment. But that doesn't matter. It's more stable, looks better, and has several needed gameplay changes. That's all that matters. From there, modders can take us to the stars.

The answer to all of these questions is precisely 0. I've played Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas, and not once have I ever ran into any of these problems that you apparently have, maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe I have a higher threshold of what I can accept before something "breaks my immersion".

There is no such thing as the perfect game and every game has issues, especially Bethesda games, and I accept this because I enjoy the world Bethesda crafts despite any shortcomings that the game may have.

Besides I buy the games on PC and any and all problems that the game may have can be fixed or modified by the fans themselves through modding.

I have experienced a grand total of three glitches in the four Bethesda RPG's that I've played. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas (I know, that was Obsidian, you don't have to tell me.) All of them were from New Vegas, and that was after around ten or fifteen hours of play. I need to pick it back up someday soon.

Maybe I'm just lucky. Maybe it's because I'm playing on a 360 and everything seems to be ported from that these days. Maybe it's a combination of those two, a third thing, or a combination of those two and whatever that third thing is. But Bethesda's games just don't give me many problems at all.

So, no, I'm not worried about Skyrim glitching out on me. Then again, I'll be playing it on a PS3 this time, at least at first, so I might start seeing some of them.
Im in the same boat as believer.

All these "gamebreaking" glitches everyone has complained about i have either not noticed, or never experienced. The worst example of what ive seen as a "glitch" would be a bandit with his head on backwards. And even then, it didnt bother me because i blew it off.

Ive personally watched every video for skyrim. Ive read every bit of info. Ive read about every glitch experienced so far ((by people who got to play the alpha/beta builds for a few hours)). Right now, it seems like right now, its exactly what i want in a game. The talk of glitches are minimal at best being "I fell through the ground" or "some textures were missing", but thats to be expected in an alpha/beta test right?

Everyone's fear seems to extend from "OMG THERE WILL BE BUGZ!!" when i dont see that as a valid argument to doubt a game thats not even released yet. We all need to settle down, and choose what system we buy it on wisely. If you dont want bugs or glitches, get it for the Xbox or PS3, they're less likely to experience bugs. If you really care about graphics so much, and you HAVE to have modding ((though we all know were going to spend 300 hours vanilla anyway...)) get it for PC, but know that your choice on getting it for PC might get you bugs for the first few months.

I'm not too worried about bugs. I don't care enough to be. I was more curious about other peoples thoughts.

I got Fallout 3 and Oblivion in their GOTY editions, so most bugs were stamped out, and I plan on doing the same with Skyrim. But, I have experienced bugs where the game crashes when attempting to do an action, and where characters are unresponsive because a script didn't run properly. They do exist, but are rare.

Yes I am worried.

Bethesda has a track record for buggy-ass games, and after Morrowing, horribly written games with shallow-as-balls characters.

Yes yes, new engine built off of the old and all that. But they also got a new engine for Oblivion built off of the old engine for Morrowind, and look how that turned out.

History has shown that Bethesda's games are buggy, unstable as all hell, and horribly written and full of bland characters. I am not exactly jumping for Skyrim.

Instead, after Oblivion I have adopted a "wait and buy" approach to Bethesda games. Where I wait a few months after release, and then buy it. By then the major bugs will have(hopefully) been fixed by Bethesda or the community, and all the small bugs will be fixed by the community, and the game will have a decent selection of mods available to fix small, nagging issues. Like the horrible interface. Also, I'm waiting for the price to go down. I'm just not paying $60 for a PC game. Especially when it's coming from Todd Howard, who said games should be $40 or less.

But that's a whole other discussion I don't feel like getting into right now.

Yay, I'm not conforming to the "general gaming public"...and I don't think I want to.
