If you love video games, the last 20 years has been a real joy ride for video game enthusiasts. However I wanted to take a moment to ponder what the distant future has in store for video gamers. Taking a look at how ARGs or Alternate Reality Games are taking shape today, we can speculate how future "gameing" may look like.
Imagine as a child you could put on a pair of glasses, plug them into your phone, and turn your neighborhood into a giant medieval forest. You could run around and create your own content in this 3d world that is laid over the real world. Build a castle around your home or create your own quest content and share them with the neighbors. Or instead of a medieval world you could get together with some friends and turn a soccer field into a giant post apocalyptic fps capture the flag arena. I would think gamers wouldn't be so stereotypically unhealthy in that kind of reality =)
Are you an RTS fan? Imagine being able to create a giant top down view of a battlefield in an empty parking lot and battle another person in a game of Starcraft 20. Walking through the battlefield as the commander and controlling your troops via audio and hand inputs. Wouldn't that be exciting?
Anyways its needless to say this distant future holds a lot of potential for gamers during that time. The only real question is how far away is this kind of future? Technology would probably have to advance quite a bit. But could it be possible that this future could be as close as 50-70 years away or will it be something for those born in 400 years?
What does everyone think? is this kind of future close? or is it far far away? And would you like to be apart of this reality, or would you be turned off by it?
