I was talking with somebody about the potential for the announced multiplayer in Batman: Arkham City. Here's what I think it will be like:
Firstly, it will probably be two player. The playable characters will be Batman and Catwoman.
I think the multiplayer will be largely cooperative. Since this is still the gameplay engine from Arkham Asylum (with some additions and modifications, of course), direct combat between two player characters isn't really a good idea. It will likely be Batman and Catwoman doing combat and predator challenges together, with two players fighting or sneaking to take down goons. Competition will be present in the form of a ranking system at the end of the challenge, showing statistics like who took out more enemies, got hit the least, etc.
As for direct competition, this would probably be in the form of some kind of race or puzzle solving challenge. Something like Batman and Catwoman both go after a jewel, Batman to protect it and Catwoman to steal it. Whoever gets there first would be the winner. But like I said, I don't think direct conflict works as well with the gameplay engine.
Other ideas: Additional playable characters, either in the game or DLC. Joker already has a full moveset and arsenal from the PS3 version (don't lie: You'd like to see Batman and Joker fighting thugs side by side), and it could also include characters like Robin, Batgirl, or Nightwing.
Tell me what you think.
