Arkham City: Multiplayer Speculation

I was talking with somebody about the potential for the announced multiplayer in Batman: Arkham City. Here's what I think it will be like:
Firstly, it will probably be two player. The playable characters will be Batman and Catwoman.
I think the multiplayer will be largely cooperative. Since this is still the gameplay engine from Arkham Asylum (with some additions and modifications, of course), direct combat between two player characters isn't really a good idea. It will likely be Batman and Catwoman doing combat and predator challenges together, with two players fighting or sneaking to take down goons. Competition will be present in the form of a ranking system at the end of the challenge, showing statistics like who took out more enemies, got hit the least, etc.
As for direct competition, this would probably be in the form of some kind of race or puzzle solving challenge. Something like Batman and Catwoman both go after a jewel, Batman to protect it and Catwoman to steal it. Whoever gets there first would be the winner. But like I said, I don't think direct conflict works as well with the gameplay engine.
Other ideas: Additional playable characters, either in the game or DLC. Joker already has a full moveset and arsenal from the PS3 version (don't lie: You'd like to see Batman and Joker fighting thugs side by side), and it could also include characters like Robin, Batgirl, or Nightwing.
Tell me what you think.

Argh, I'm so sick of hearing that everything is having multiplayer tacked on.

Just let us have our great single player games, developers!

Here's the problem in that post, who says it would be tacked on? Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed proved that originally singleplayer-focussed franchises can have very good and well-fleshed out multiplayer components (whether you like them or not, they worked very well), whether they're coop or competitive. It's too early to say whether Batman will fall into the "tacked on" category or the good category.

I'd like to see something like the Splinter Cell multiplayer. One team plays as the Bat-family in third person. They get all their various tools and the ability to knock out goons if they can sneak up on them. Their objective is to get something specific, like a specific file from a library or rescue a hostage.

Team 2 plays as the goons in first-person. They get guns, and various vision modes that let them see the various tools and traps the Bats set up. Their objective is to kill the first team, or just defend for a certain amount of time.

Now that sounds kind of interesting. A manhunt between FPS goons and the Bat Family. The only problem is that the Bat Family has an arguably much greater advantage.

Yes but not in the campaign. Maybe some split screen co-op and have the other person play as some one else from Batman? Robin, Nightwing, Bat-girl, I would love a Batman Beyond to be in there.

Well, the balance comes from the Bats not being able to permanently incapacitate a member of the goons, and the goons having access to lethal equipment and the arguably easier objective.

Also, there is the element of teamwork. If the goons stick together, then a single Bat can't take them all down (unless he gets lucky) by himself. He'll have to coordinate with his team (difficult), or just try to outstealth them. Combine that with the goons have access to things like security cameras and being able to rig hiding spaces like vents and gargoyles, maybe? The Bats would have tools to get around them, but it would serve to slow them down and let the goons know where they are.

I don't think multiplayer will be a big focus so it wont really ruin the single player experience. I'd like to see co-op with Catwoman. I'd play as Catwoman all the time probably.

The problem is that
the plot of the game is Batman rescuing Catwoman

So given that, I don't think co-op will work too well if this is the case

I can just see it.MODERN ASSASSINATION SUPERHERO CREED!style (laughs)
No,I like where you are headed, but for a multiplayer, versus would probably be included just for the fact that everyone does that.I am thinking something like say,a tracking system for who can get this guy to this first or something in which you would need to handle someone directly while attempting to avert the other who would likely jump down and swoop kick.

For characters: I would love to see some other superheroes from other comics of the day.Different play mechanics are never bad and bat wasn't the only normal

as long as the multiplayer doesnt infringe on the single player (wich i doubt it will)it should be fine if a little pointless as this particular game has no need for multiplayer
