Title says it all, folks. EA is selling Arkham City for only $25. The page says it's available as a direct download too, so I don't know if you even need Origin to play the game. See the below quote. See the quote below that.

At any rate, I officially am jealous since I pre-ordered my copy through Steam back in early November for full price. I am a sucker.

Anyone else getting good Black Friday deals out there?

I just had a chat session with an online EA advisor. Looks like Arkham City in fact does NOT require Origin. I'm sold. I've dealt with GFWL and while I despise it, I'll tolerate it occasionally. I've never had an outright BAD experience with it. Just lots of tedium. However I won't be tolerating both that and Origin at the same time.

And it turns out I don't have to. I'll just load this into steam and I'm good to go.

PLOT TWIST

Despite EA explicitly telling me it DOES NOT require Origin, it DOES require it. Getting back into queue to speak with another support agent. Good thing I told them to email my chat transcripts to me from earlier.

More EA drama. Not shocking.

I would imagine you need Origin. If someone can prove me wrong, I'm buying it though. I'm just not going to put up with GFWL and Origin at the same time. I'd suffer through one of them, though.

Pretty sure you'd just need Origin, not both Origin and GFWL.

It's an intriguing offer to be sure, but with Skyrim out, and TOR coming, and then GW2 coming after that...when the hell would I play it? I'll look to snap it up next year around this time, when it'll be $9.99 and possibly have some DLC to boot.

Pretty sure that you have to suffer through GFWL so long as you get any PC version (I know that the Steam version comes with it, though I still can't get my copy to work.)

Its tied to gfwl, just like the original, which means that you can get xbox achievements on it but it also means you have to deal with the annoying as hell gfwl.

Oh DEAR.

Well nuts to that then. Arkham Asylum was a fun little game, but not "endure GFWL" fun.

GRRRRR you're so lucky. Thanks for verifying the "no Origin" rumor though.

EA s currently saying there's nothing they can do. I bought it and it's in my Origin account. I told them I'm not keen on them scamming me out of 25 dollars. I would not have made the purchase if I was given the correct information. We'll see where this goes.

$25... damnit. I have too many games right now as it is.

Also, Origin isn't that bad. I don't have it set to load at bootup so it only pops up when I play a game that needs it (BF3). My only real complaint with it is sometimes after gaming it uses a lot of CPU (like 25%) for no explicable reason. Exiting it fixes that though.

Too bad the game is not even present in the European version of Origin, or at least not the Danish one.

Steam should price match it, like a hardware store.

I know Valve would totally be up for that kind of shit.

I'm waiting for the inevitable steam sale to buy Arkham City and Saints Row 3.

Edit: After checking steam, it doesn't seem to contain a page for Saints Row 3, is it origin exclusive on PC or what?

No, there's a page for Saints Row: The Third on Steam. However there's no sale on it at the moment.

It's not available in all regions from what I gather. I know I personally have SR3 on steam.

So, Arkham City update: I'm done. I'm not fighting them anymore for a refund. I got tired of being told there was no problem here. Fuck them. I'll play the game, but that's the last dollar I ever spend on an EA product. I've heard horror stories but what they did to me is an outright scam. Shame on them. Will not happen again.
