Here's the reality: The world is based on money. The studios receive extra of this money for making deals. They have children and habits to feed the same as we all do. If you don't like it, change the entire world. That's all there is to it.

I beg to differ. I've been a Batman fan all my life and when they announced Robin, I hightailed it to Best Buy as fast as the speed limits would allow (possibly faster). I do feel as though they've offered up sort of a Sophie's Choice for gamers though and not just on Arkham City. It sucks having to pick which content lives or dies on your copy.

Here's a question: which Robin? Cause I gotta tell you, that could be a deal breaker. I might pay to play as Damien or Todd, hell, maybe even Dick... but not Tim. These things matter!
I'm pretty sure it's not Dick or Damien. It'll prolly be Todd. Tim was killed off if I recall?

Buy from EB. We get Blue Jocks Batman.

The skins from GAME and Gametraders are lame. I dunno about JB HiFi.

EDIT: HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! JB HAVE ANIMATED SERIES BATMAN!

Re-EDIT: They also have Robin and "Year One" Batman. Here you go, have a look.

Bonus Round EDIT: GAME in Aus have Batman Beyond skin.

EB Games have Batman: Dark Knight skin and Batman '70s era skin as well as Jokers Carnival.

I can't find "deets" on the pre-order bonus at GameTraders, but the Joondalup Store in WA had Batman Beyond from memory. But GAME have that so I am probably imagining it.

These are the types of pre-order bonuses that really annoy me. I posted this somewhere else in a thread about pre-order bonuses, and think it applies well here. And to the people who don't see it as a problem, think of it like this, you are a fan of the game - you want all the content available, but this is impossible for you to do. The collectors edition (in the UK anyway) does not contain all this stuff either, so where ever youre getting it from, youre not getting a bonus treat, youre missing out on loads of skins, characters, and challenge maps!

I can justify some preorder bonuses. From the companies perspective, they want the game sold on day one, so to provide incentive for consumers to do this, they provide something extra for those who preorder the game, wherever they preorder it from. This I have to say I'm fine with.

Sometimes, they lock the bonus to a certain retailer, meaning if you preorder anywhere else you get just the game, but at the specific retailer you can get the extra content. Again, I am fine with this, as fans who want the extra content can order from the retailer and receive it.

But the types of preorder bonus that really annoys me, is where they offer loads of DIFFERENT bonuses at different retailers, making it impossible to receive all the content without stupidly buying the same game multiple times. Yes, these bonuses sometimes come to PSN, but in my opinion, a fan of the game, who has gone out of his way to preorder the game - full price - at a specific retailer offering a preorder bonus - should get ALL of the content currently available. I think it is unfair to deny a fan content that other people have, just because the others preordered somewhere else.

Well, looking at the Robin from Arkham City, he looks more like Tim than any of the other Robins. And Tim, by the way, isn't dead (maybe he was at some point, but what with the whole Nekron thing dead has never been too dead in the DCU). Right now, however, Tim has taken up the mantle of Red Robin, the very same Red Robin who is on the current Teen Titans team.

It doesn't make sense to me that he'd be Todd, mostly because more than any of the other Robins, Todd has left the role behind. Now Todd actually did die at one point, at the hands of the Joker as I recall. But he came back; right now he's still wearing the mantle of the Red Hood, and he's been teamed up with Starfire and Arsenal. Still, considering that he was evil before that, and that DC has been working very hard to have him leave that part of his past behind, I just don't buy it.

He could also be a younger Dick, which actually seems to make more sense to me than any of the other options. In many ways, Dick has always been the most iconic Robin, not only that but even when he outgrew the role and became Nightwing, he never really escaped it completely. Not only that, Dick (and Tim) are the only two Robins who have never really had a compromised past. To top it off, while it's possible I just haven't heard about it, to the best of my knowledge Nightwing is not appearing in the game, which would mean that Dick wasn't pre-occupied with his attempt to outgrow his initial role.

I guess I could also buy that he was an older Damien, and if the Arkham City team was looking to make things dark, they could hardly choose a better Robin than Batman's own mildly sociopathic son. The other point in favor of this character as the Robin in the game is that he is the current Robin.

Of course there's also the possibility that the Robin in the game is not meant to be any specific Robin at all, but instead an amalgam of all the Robins. A character whose mask we are not meant to probe past, especially considering that he's only going to be playable in challenge maps.

So in conclusion, I'm saying that Dick or Damien are the two most likely options, well that or the option that it's not any specific Robin at all. Tim being less likely than either of those, and Todd being the least likely of all.

How does the extra content work? Is it unlockable, already stored on the machine, or is it a key for a download?
Could be either. Does it really make a difference?
yes, I refuse to purchase material that I have to pay extra to use.

You'd be paying extra for a download anyway. You don't need the DLC.

Eh, I don't see why it matters. It's all going to be released as DLC anyway. I'm just gonna wait until the game is cheap used and then buy the DLC. It'll probably be cheaper for me and the developer/publisher still gets some cash.

Win/win all the way!

So you're just now discovering that making pre-order content retailer-exclusive is completely retarded?

Don't fret it. If the first game is anything to go by, all of the skins and challenge maps will eventually be offered as DLC anyway.

The in-game Robin is named Tim Drake, but seems to take after Jason with a dash of Damian. More or less a new creation for the game universe.

Arkham Asylum was a good game - sure, it got packaged with Windows GTFO, but it worked.

Arkham City NEEDS to be a good game, so it's stacked with unnecessary crap, it's own canon, and is looking steadily like Frank Miller's Batman.

We've got character re-designs, a mountain of bad guys to fight and...little else.

Look back on all the hype...it's all the stuff they've given you as cut-scenes...that's just a free comic.

Where's the flesh of the game? Where's the damn writing?

The gaming community has been bullied into pre-ordering games with gamestop for a while now. We see this in almost all big releases these days. Such as Arkham City, you receive a joker carnival map when you pre-order with gamestop. BUT WAIT!!!!

If you pre-order at best buy you get fucking robin as a playable character.
Isn't the purpose of these pre-order, extra content bullshit, to get the hardcore fans to buy from a certain retailer???

WELL WHAT ARE ARKHAM CITY"S HARDCORE FANS TO DO!!!????
Buy two copies of the game to receive full content??

I say "fuck that" publishers need to get their shit together and stop whoring their games to retailers that pay them money to take content away from everyone else!
...Thoughts?

:sorry for the double post it told me there was an error the first time
Um simple wait about 2 months and they;ll be selling/giving away all the pre-order content online The last Batman did it and it wasn't the only game to do it either it's just a mater of when they release it.

Otherwise it's a depends on if you want the game right away and which store/site has the best offer for you.

Gasp companies getting exclusive deals in order to try and make people buy from them! BLASPHEMY!!

This is a big issue over whats fair and honest to be doing and how customers and companies should interact. I'm saying if its right or wrong but I do think your argument probably lends itself to the selfish child demanding more argument. I'd just caution you to try and refine it a bit to address consumer expectations and company PR.

I was never planning on getting the DLC. That's why I would be irritated if I ended up paying for DLC that I couldn't use, until I "purchased" it.

Won't all of that content eventually become available at some point after the game is released? When Fist of the North Star came out, you could preorder from Gamestop to get Heart as a playable character. A month or so later he became available to buy outright.

Also, since they're releasing Robin in the form of an action figure, it's almost a certainty that he'll be available to purchase in a month or two after Arkham City is released. If you want the full experience, just wait and pay. Or you could wait a little while longer (8 to 16 months I assume) for a GOTY or, complete edition of Arkham City to be released.
