Around the World; Women from the United States

So while board at work today I came across a site where there were a bunch of different travel websites for different countries about things to expect when traveling in the United States. Something odd I noticed in a couple of them (the Japanese one particularly) was that they didn't seem to be too - fond, I want to say? - of women in/from the United States.

This made me think back a little and realize....I don't think I've ever seen or really heard of American women ever really being popular in other countries, or in their media. American men yes (to varying degrees) are depicted in and liked around the world in one degree or another.

But women?

Rarely if ever do they seem to depicted, and when they are, its not well - in fact its a bit of a joke on the Internet it seems to compare American women to women from other countries. But as far as media is concerned; French, German, Russian, Swedish, Japanese, Canadian etc. whatever - all fine and depicted and seemingly liked. But it seems like American women rarely ever appear, and that they aren't terribly popular when they do.

And it brought to mind a video I saw in my sociology class when I was a Junior in college; it was about feminism/women's rights around the world and it had a bunch of interviews with women in France, Japan, Britain, Russia etc. We didn't see the whole video in class, but the part that I remember best was the part towards the end when they went back to interview the French businesswoman (I think she was like a CFO or something) and she was very cutting. I don't remember the words exactly but it was along the lines of "People don't like American women/dealing with American because they've forgotten how to be women/don't teach their daughters how to behave" (Hey, it was 5 years ago almost now. I don't remember the wording exactly, only the impression).

I remember thinking it a bit odd...but does the rest of the world really find women from the US so distasteful?

I'll share this; I went to an all-boys High School, while my sister went to an all-girls High School.
As a Junior and Senior, my Spanish class has a spring-break trip to Spain. It was amazing. And at one time there was a sister trip, also to Spain, also during Spring Break, from the school my sister went to.
But at some point before either of us attended those schools it had been canceled. and the only reason my sister ever got was
"We always had trouble. It's best if we just don't do it."

Seriously, she asked I think 3 or 4 different teachers who had once gone on the trip. All they said was there was trouble and they don't do it anymore.

Take it for what you will...

I'm not sure. I've heard stories, though, of American women being viewed as "loose" by other countries because of American television. For instance, many women have gone to India, where they can't even walk down the street without a chauffeur, because they're being harassed for sex. Meanwhile, many women there evidently feel that American women lack morals. I've also read first hand accounts written by immigrants that stated that they expected all American women to be rather leud. His immigration instructor evidently held up a volume of Maxum, and said that most women weren't like that.

I don't know if that's what you mean, but it's what I've heard. I'm sure it varies based upon country.

Here in Canada it depends on the region, boarder states are considered more or less the same as us, with New England being considered the true neighbour of a country. The South, on the other hand, is viewed in a generally less favourable way, with both women and men being viewed as stuck up, while out West we tend to view women as being more loose, as Fox12 stated.

Right. This is going to seem a bit brutal, so I'll just be blunt and lay it out.

Here is how we see the American woman in the U.K.

She is probably going to sleep around.
She is a "woo" girl.
She says "like" a lot.
Imagine Snookie? Imagine Paris Hilton? There are what people think.
She will divorce you and take the kids and half your shit.
An American woman will shout in your face about her opinion.
American women have no grace or elegance.
American women want to be men.
American women are the worst kind of feminists.
American women will throw a rape charge at you for no reason.
American women have no empathy for anyone except other American women.
American women will ***** about each other behind their backs.
American women made the phrase "frenemies"
American women are self-obsessed and not very caring.
American women will get fat and call it "curves".
American women love the phrase "If you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve my best" like they're a fucking animal that needs handling.
American women are bad mothers, and bad wives.

American men, on the other hand, are seen as potentially violent, but kind, honest, and slightly silly creatures

Declis nailed it. All of it. I was gonna go "In Argentina..." but it's exactly the same. I don't even know why I'm still here.

That must make the idea of pick up artists, any sort of "how to get laid" help, or even roofies seem bizarre for Americans to have, then.

Edit: Also, this is pretty much the same impression I've heard from Americans about New Zealand women and, to a lesser extent, Australian women. Except it's spun in a positive manner as in "They're not uptight about their sexuality". I've even heard of packs of kiwi women that roam the bars looking for men to hook up with under the reasoning that a man has to be a good lay before he can even be considered for a relationship.

*blink* Seriously? I'd always been under the impression that we Americans were generally viewed as sexually repressed (or at least prudish).

The logic is that you went there to sleep around since you can't sleep around in America due to America being full of prudes thus you have to travel to get your rocks off without getting a reputation for it.

That only applies to the old unattractive ones.

Are... are most women not like that? How would you describe UK women, then?

Mostly for the things like frenemies and stabbing each other in the back. I always thought that was kind of a... girl thing in general. They always seemed to be passive aggressively ruining each other's lives while the guys would just punch each other in the face a few times and then end up as close friends (this has actually happened to me personally more than once).

Less than half of those things could be ascribed to Australian women, and the women that you could put that half against would be the absolute rotten apples of the bunch here. Most Australian women are pretty damn great.

And in response to the OP, you don't watch a lot of anime do you? Because American women, while often stereotypically Texan, are usually portrayed quite nicely. In fact most foreign women in anime tend to be portrayed as extremely beautiful and kind, if a little ignorant. And almost always blonde.

First I've heard of it. (UK here)

I do remember reading what Fox12 said in a Cracked article, but otherwise I'd only really heard of the standard US internet stereotypes.

I haven't really bothered with TV/film for about 10 years and I don't really roam much further than here and a few specialist Youtube channels on t'internet, so I probably just miss out on shit like this.

My own opinion: I've known 2 women from the US, both were perfectly nice people. Other than that I have a couple of posters on here I've observed and Dodger on the Co-Optional podcast. They seem pretty agreeable. Some on News Items have seemed like total asses, but that's the news. Not really a great sample to base judgement on.
Just remembered we get a few Students doing a year at the Uni I work at. Only difference I notice is the accent.

People are people, some of them are twats, others aren't. Whatev's

Here in the Philippines, we would probably oogle her for a moment, then we would treat like normal except tease her about her accent sometimes, and use "Murica" a lot around her. At least, that's what my circle of friends and family would do. We aren't the most typical Filipinos. In fact, you might say the other Filipinos despise us.

I've lived in both the US and Europe, the stereotypes I've largely heard about American Women are:

-They're overweight and don't take care of themselves, yet seem to think they deserve a man who looks like Chris Hemsworth in "Thor".
-They're either really slutty or very prudish (no in-between).
-They're often dumb and/or trashy, and don't know how to hold their liquor.
-They try and act like they're these ultra-independent feminists, but want a guy to pay for everything and take care of them.

Like I said, just stereotypes I've heard in my journeys around the world.

Never particularly heard that one...

I mean, I know the idea that people dislike Americans in general is pretty common. (on an off day, I'm one of them. >_>)

But... I don't know. Can't say I've heard such things specifically about American women.
Now, having lived there, I've actually heard (and witnessed) a surprisingly large amount of horrid behaviour from British women, but... That's a different subject.

As for opinions of the people from the middle east or India or stuff, again, I don't know why Americans would be singled out.
As I recall, when we travelled through these places when I was little, my mother was constantly faced with harrassment and weird ideas about her morals and 'loose' sexuality...

That wasn't because anyone thought she was American, that was a widely held belief about western women generally...

Oh well. That's stereotypes for you. There's all kinds of weird ones around, many of which can have a grain of truth to them, but most are rarely all that accurate overall...

I gave a similar review of U.K. women in a previous thread and got torn apart for it. I was almost hesitant to come back and see what people thought. But seriously, not impressed with either the U.K. or American women. Chinese women, or French women, or German women, they're all pretty damn amazing.

Well, it's simple.

She'll fuck 50 men, but showing her tits in public would require a public apology.

If you believe the PUA community, it's because 80% of women will sleep with the same 20% of men. But then we will end up talking down the rabbit hole of MGTOW and general insanity.

The PUA system is for the 80% of men who are thirsty. Seriously, go to any men's forum. Men today have some serious confidence issues due to a lot of societal changes and this movement to PUA and MGTOW is the response to it, as unhealthy as the cause. Men just do not know what to do anymore, society doesn't respect or reward behaviour that men recognise as good.

Yahtzee's girlfriend is american. I don't know how that contributes to the conversation I just know he really wanted people to know that. Maybe it's so he can't be racist or something?
