Yes, because all fantasy races are obviously derived from Lord of the Rings.
I am unsure if you know it, but as an interesting fact; Orcs are a derivative of the Roman God Orcus, a stolen version of the Greek God Hades, ruler of the underworld by the same name. So, Tolkien stole from Agrippina? Games Workshop ripped off Plato? I doubt it. (This is not directed at you, obviously)

It's just common mythological heritage, people seriously need to stop jumping to conclusions every time something that looks a bit like something they like turns up.

"The grunts in Gears of War) are derivatives of the U.S. Marine Corps soldiers, "
It's most definitely nothing and not really that important, but then he'd have to go even more into reverso logic mode and say that the Royal Dutch Marines ripped off the U.S. Marine Corps.

You know, the Netherlandian marine force active since 1665? Clearly stole all their stuff from the U.S. Marines!

(no disrespect to any devil dogs intented. I love the corps)

I can't read the article without laughing about how ridiculous he sounds stating Warhammer 40k copied GoW...it's just...well ridiculous

I'll admit the article is a great laugh especially when shared with others at the local game store.

The majority of Warhammer 40k's material is inspired by various books.
Space Marines: Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein
Eldar: The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien
On top of that it was originally released in the late 80s and continues strong to this day while GW attempts expand their franchise into digital games.

Personally, I can agree that a few of the gameplay elements in Space Marine look like they were influenced by Gears of War, but I'd be hard pressed to claim that either game really "rips off" the other. Gears of War was heavily influenced by Kill Switch's cover-based combat, but I feel that Gears of War didn't so much rip the system off as take an idea they liked and showed it support by implementing it. If THQ gets permission to develop the game on the Unreal engine then of course it'll look similar to another game developed on the same engine.

While the COG does feel like someone put the Imperial Guard and Space marines into a blender, I feel they are less a "space marine" clone than another take on the whole power armored soldier concept.

Then again I found all of 40k to be a cheap knockoff of various other works (mostly literary works) mashed together into a game designed to collect the hard-earned money of people who enjoy model building as a hobby as well as table top games. But I began my dive into escapist media through literature so I do recognize my bias.

Erm.. I'm not particularly well-versed in this sort of thing, but didn't WH40K create the template in the first place?

Can someone point out to me how this person doesn't know English? If you're going to use that as a backing for hating something, make sure it's true.

Hay guys, I heard that Warhammer 40K ripped off Starcraft, so by the transitive property Gears of War is Starcraft.

He's updated his article, basically apologizing and clarifying that all he wanted to do was mention that they were similar. To which I responded.

If all you wanted to do was mention that the games were similar, maybe you should've actually stuck to comparing gameplay rather than devoting the magority of an "article" to comparing WH40K to Gears of War which was titled "How many ways can THQ rip off Gears of War". Frankly, your words were chosen poorly from the very beginning, literally.
