Another troper here on the escapist? :)
It's more than twice as likely as you think!

Anyone here played Armored Core? AC Nexus has the most soul-crushingly artificial difficulty in any game ever. Except maybe Red Faction 2, what with the explosive suicide spiders, infinitely respawning zombies, and bosses that kill in 3 hits and die in 300.
Armored Core is my abusive game relationship. Love the game, hate the game, it's led to the destruction of more then one controller.

Or in the same vein how any guard in Oblivion can magically sense you when you perform a criminal act. Or how Cops in previous GTA games can find you no matter where you hide? Sometimes even teleporting right behind you?
Uhm, I'd like to counter this argument to prove you wrong.

As long as nobody direclty *WATCHES YOU* commit a crime you'll be fine.
If a guard sees you do it, then obviously he/she's gonna chase you down.

You can however commit crimes in serveral ways wtihout being spotted.
Sneaking, using invisibility potions etc.
If you're a member of the hieves guild you can get the heat off you by bribing city officials, or if you've beaten the thieves guild all together just use the Shroud of Nocturnal (Gray Fox's hood) to do whatever the heck you want and don't get any heat for it once you take off the mask.

I've done all kinds of fun illegal stuff in Oblivion in that way - heck in some missions (Assassins Guild) it is REQUIRED since on some misison you have to kill a guard patrolling the streets.

Oh, yeah, and for some reason those AI boosts only apply to ENEMY AI, and never allies.
Hey, it's not the programmers' fault you have idiots for friends.

Oh wait--it is. Never mind.

Well then, how would you guys make games harder, then?
Good question. Make a thread.
