Yeah, I read this on Metal-Archives. Very odd indeed. I'm not a fan of As I Lay Dying, or metalcore in general, so I don't know the dude's personality, but I'm going with an innocent until proven guilty mindset here. This is just a tad difficult to believe.

My cousin went to highschool with their guitarist, and was pretty good friends with him.
I laughed extra hard when I found out about this.

I thought these guys were supposed to be like upstanding and ... I dunno... responsible? If thats the right word? I don't know much about them. I like some of their songs but I also don't listen to much metalcore.

This seems odd to me. But who knows, sometimes you really don't know people.

Do you think this is why he put a song called "Consider Dat a Divorce" on Austrian Death Machine's new album?

All bad jokes aside, this sucks.

Stuff like this hurts the metal genre.
Jeff Hanneman's death hurts the metal genre.

I cannot stand AILD. The band is as generic and soulless as Walmart. Some people dig em, but they're not my choice.
Jeff was one of the top 5 most important metal figures of the 80s, and his death has been covered in depth. But that is not what this is about. And for everyone's sake, please don't be a "true metal only" bigot, that's probably the kind of people I despise the most in the world. (It is of course fine to dislike a band, as long as you don't dislike them simply for "not being real metal". My despise for Metal Archives zealots is beyond words.)

Seems pretty odd for a christian band. Not a close follower, so I don't know them all that well either, but still..

He didn't say they weren't "real metal", he said they were soulless popcorn metal. Which they are.

Anyway, this is kind of surprising news. Isn't this guy supposed to be a Christian?

What happened, did she backtalk? (Kidding, kidding, don't kill me!)
They are not soulless. These guys put a lot of passion into their music and play a great style of metalcore. If you want soulless metal listen to Asking Alexandria.

If As I Lay Dying is the result of passionate musicianship from these people... well, damn. That's just kind of sad to me.

Just an aside, how old are you? It's none of my business, so I don't mind if you don't want to say.
21. But I was raised on what most people say are "true metal". But to me, metal is metal. Nothing is true metal and nothing is fake metal. Yes I can see why people don't like many -core bands, but that doesn't make them fake metal.

That's just how I see it, plus elitism in the metal world pisses me off to no end.

I haven't followed metal for quite some time but I have friends who are really into it, doesn't Christian metal make about as much sense as a gay republican?

Your impression of what metal is sounds like it belongs in the '70s. Not all metal bands are about burning churches and sacrificing maidens.

No, but much like gay republicans, they do all suck.

[small]...OK, that was horrible both as a pun and an opinion. I apologise profusely.[/small]
