Ashley Madison is a porn actress... sorry, "adult star" isn't she? I would research it but I have to be at work soon and I don't wank and work.

A group claiming to be on the moral highground, whatever that means anymore, has hacked a well know dating site "Ashley Madison". What I didn't know was that this site was designed for husbands and wives to cheat on their partners on... with... something.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/internet-security/11750432/Adultery-website-Ashley-Madison-hack-threatens-to-expose-37.5m-cheaters.html

37 MILLION!!! How did I not know about this!?!?! I just thought this site was a normal adult site to meet lonely singles in your local area at a fee of £10 a month, plus £2 connect fees, £4 dialing fee, £1 GPS fees, £2 "in 3D" fees, £8 "not fees, not the fees aaaaaarrrrrrhhhhhh!!" fees and £15 cancellation fee... What was I talking about again?

What do you all think? Did hackers do the right thing? Was it none of their damn business? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE LONELY SINGLES OUT THERE!?!? Or just anything in general about this story.

FREEDOM!!

Update: Two individuals linked to Ashley Madison hack have taken their own lives.

We can all have different views on the matter of cheating and hacking but things goes a bit too far when people are being blackmailed for financial gains and those who hack and blackmail claiming they are on a moral crusade.

Hacking sites and spreading personal information around isn't the right thing to do.

Having said that, to hell with Ashley Madison. Also, their "cancellation fee" which removes all your details from the site records your payment details for the fee for deleting everything. So your name stays with them.

I saw the news report yesterday and in their report, a hacker like professional claim it's more likely to be a bluff or rather they would sell the information to a third party than to actually release it to the public. However seeing that link I highly doubt that is the case.

Speaking of that link, so the site would rather go down while taking whoever are still with them (the whole cancellation fee)? So much for "caring" for their costumers if they still want to leech off their money when they are about to shut down.

I've known about this for days. One side of my brain hopes to see the information leaked and the registered users punished for their filthy transgressions, the other side of me doesn't want these peoples' more important information (the financial stuff) to be leaked and ripe for picking.

But in any case, I couldn't care less if the site stays up or goes down.

The problem with an argument of using the "moral highground" in a situation like this, is at best, blatantly hypocritical. First off, they're threatening to punish the users of the site for their protest with the site's existence, when their big qualm is with the site's owners. Also it's impossible to claim any highground, especially moral highground, when you're threatening to expose users and their financial information. Ruining someone's image, exposing them to identity theft, and basically ruining their professional and personal lives isn't something that someone can justify. Even from a religious standpoint.

This really is about the worst thing hackers can do.

This

Fuck these people and Fuck them for daring to say they have the moral high ground. You're breaking the Law and most likely ruining the lives of people they don't even know. These people smell of hipster douchebag who thinks there's some kind of great hero and yes I know people on the site are kind of doing dirty shit but being a douchebag isn't illegal you are the ones doing illegal shit

Well theyre probably justified in thier choice of target, but theyve gone the completely wrong way about doing it.

Then again, threatening to expose the users is probably the only thing they could accomplish. Sites like this one arent known for particularly giving a fuck.

Should serve karmic justice for the adulterers as well, should they be exposed.

>There's a site dedicated to helping people cheat on their partners
>We don't like that happening

So they hacked said site and are now threatening to leak user's information instead of...pff...I don't know...inquiring and addressing the social issues that cause people to cheat on their partners in the first place?

But nah, who wants to do that? That'd be too much hard work.

I don't think you should ever be in a position to cheat on your parents.
You forget Norfolk, that sort of thing is normal there.
I now have to live in Norfolk... :(

I asked at work if we could be issued a prosthetic extra finger to fit in easier... but sadly not.

When bad things happen to bad people. The site was pretty disgusting to begin with and I do not mourn it's fate. On the other hand, the way the hackers went about taking it down is pretty disgusting as well. There really aren't any good guys in all this.
