Aw man, I was hoping you were one of the Bouncer Big Daddies from Bioshock.

I'm sad now.

Do you practice Martial Arts? If yes, which ones?
Do you have collegues who are thin and don't look strong? If yes, how come they are bouncers, did they have to "prove" (don't ask me how) that they could break up a fight (or end one) if necessary?
No, I did Wado Ryu for years though, before I moved for college. It gives a bit of confidence, but is not paratical for door work.

Yes, but they do not need to "prove" themselves. Most people do not really wanna fight, its not that hard to break them up. You just have to be brave enough to get stuck in. Not all the guys who I work with are, they are few and far between, but some will pretend they did not see a fight.

You say that you come back from work hating the human race, obviously what people do. What is it that you find repetitive that they do, and want to say to them, or wish you could? I'm full of questions, and answering mine just means I'll ask more lol. Did you in your life think you'd be a bouncer? What was it you wanted to do originally, like dream job wise?

Do you too got a collection of weird stuff you take away from people at the door?
One of our bouncers got one, everything from butterfly-knives to unidetified selfmade dangerous looking stuff.

P.S. as a barkeep i say keep up the good work man. I sometimes wouldnt have the nerves or patience, good you guys are around.

Okay, this isn't a question so much as an observation. I have not been to any kind of club or anything in six years, and it is entirely because I fucking despise bouncers. I mean, I haven't met a single bouncer yet that I did not end up hating deeply.

I look younger than I am (26). I know I look younger than I am. About 15 at best. (Although some particularly rude guys have insisted "12.") I am not going to cause a fuss over the fact that I would spend any given night in a club getting I.D.ed left and right. When I used to go, whenever I saw someone heading my way, the FIRST thing I did was get my I.D. ready. I know the goddamn drill.

My compliance has never once helped. Bouncers are still viciously verbally abusive to me. So again, I stopped going out with my friends because I was NOT spending money to have bouncers (one right after the other! - god, communicate with each other somehow) insult me and swear at me because they think I look like my I.D. is fake but they can't prove it. (Because my I.D. is genuine, obviously.)

So I guess my question then is this: why the hell is treating me like dirt for looking young apparently so necessary?

...Or is this a regional thing? Would love to know if bouncers are all just dicks in MY city or what.

Bouncers are dickheads. Most of them are just there for the "power" they get, Couldnt count how many times i've seen them repeatedly punch innocent people. Then when we call the cops, they get arsey with us. Pure dicks. :)

I would ask a bouncer, but I don't like talking to myself. Actually I'm lying as I talk to myself all the time. To be honest though I have rarely had to throw someone out. Most of the time if I am polite but forceful the offending activity ceases.

What is with Bouncers trying to sell me shit!?

"Can I go in?"
"Buy five scratch-cards."
"Errr what? No I don't want any."
"What are you, fucking cheap?"
"What the fuck would I do with scratch-cards in a nightclub, I don't want them."
"Fine, go in *****, but I'll be watching you."

How much would you say is a good bet for bribing your way past a bouncer?

Are there any types of people you trust implicitly and will always let in?

I'm a tall, lanky but in-shape guy who has been ridiculously drunk in my time but has never been refused entry or kicked out. Bouncers (for pubs, bars and clubs all across Britain) always seem to treat me nicely or ignore me, regardless of my ability to walk in a straight line or even keep upright. I guess I'm just bemused as to why none of them have ever just looked at my grinning Scottish counternance and shaken their head authoritatively. I would have if I saw myself staggering towards a bar.

What features do you need to be a decent bouncer?

Good thread by the way, making a dull evening much more interesting

How do you get maximum compliance from a bouncer? (or how do you behave so that it goes smooth as silk)

What types of sober people do you watch out for? What other types of people do you deny entry?

What are the weaknesses of bad bouncers?

What should you do if a bouncer mistreats you?
