Is football (still) immensely huge in Brazil?
Almost a religion. Actualy more than a religion. At least people dont kill for religion here. Some are more fanatics than the british (and they invented the fricking game)

Brazil is a Country with imense social problems. And I do not blame foreing powers for most of that.
Wait, so you blame foreign powers for some of it?

Maybe I'm lucky or privileged but I really don't see what's so special about our social problems. And that is specially true for the last 5 or so years, a time when most of the world has been going through crisis after crisis we've been growing and everything indicates that we will keep growing.

Do we live in a perfect society? No! But considering the shape the world is in today we live in a pretty awesome one.

How do you feel that your nationality is synonymous with a styling for pubic hair?
Doesn't bother me I guess. We DID invent the damn thng. Although we didn't name it. And to referenced as female genitalia well... could be worse.

How do you feel about the idea that people probably associate the word brazilian with that more?
We most people say American the world think: Dumb, drunk and Nascar racing. I'll stay with pubic hair thank you ^_^

Does it make up for living with such beautiful weather?!
It's raining like hell out there are you mad? Try comming here outside the vacation window of nice sunny days, haha.

It's like they take that ONE sunny day and snap a picture for the bruchures.

(Ok I exagerate, but its becomming annoying with all this water)

How do you feel about the ridiculous amount of poverty? I mean, seeing those Favelas dotteda round Rio is plain weird. Do the rich just ignore the poor?

I myself live in a favela (funny to see foreneirs using this word). Of course, nothing like the Slums (Favelas) In Rio de Janeiro.
Besides Modern Warfare 2 having a map named after it, the visual size of the Brazilian slums and the stories we (foreigners) hear about them caused them to become notorious enough to not just be slums, but rather the Favelas, like they're a class above normal slums. Although I'm sure it's not as bad as it seems, or that at least it's no problem that other countries also have to deal with.

One thing I did hear about was that the government was going to build a wall between one of the more notorious favelas and a middle class district and it was causing a lot of controversy; did that wall ever get put up?

Alright, here's one.

About how many times do you hear bad jokes/references/puns about coffee? (Nevermind if they're misplaced, ill-timed, or perpetuating a stereotype.)

Ah I see... foolish me. That's right the map.

Well in a way it IS as bas as it seams. It does not require outside help no, but in Rio it is a state of internal war. It only needs polical measures to contain the situation, and remedy the causes. They already contained much of it. All Favelas are under secure State control now (was quite a show) but truly remeding the causes... That would be expeting too much from our representatives.

Walls are put every day, sort to speak. In Rio Favelas are side to side to the most expensive square meters in the city. It's how the city is growing among other things. Understanding the favelas would take a profund study of our national History, going back a few hundred years. Thats a persception most brasilians don't even have.

But real Berlin Walls... Nah, not going to happen.

Important note: Favelas are composed of 99,99% Hard-as-hell working people, who have nothing to do with organised crime. Of course seince it seats at the edge of formal society it is used as a hiding place for criminal elements.

Sadly I don't have a solution.

So, I was here a while ago and I notived a "Ask a Jew" Topic. There seems to be a "Ask a Pakistanese" as well. So I though "What the hell, I can do this". Since I guess most people outside this contry don't know much about it.

Questions will be answered to the fullest extent of my knowlege (living here for all these years and all that).

Ask away. What do you want to know?
There was a ask a jew thread?

Blueberries are "arandos" in brazilian i guess (I am portuguese, here are called "mirtilos"). As for munch as in a sort of food, in portugal there is no translation, dont know about Brazil.

What did you have for breakfast last?
Well I woke late for work today, so I didn't have any.

Breakfast is not a very important meal in our culture. Mostly we eat at lunch (unless you are at least a little rich, then you get to play american).

Common man breakfast is a nice hot coffe (not the GTA one) and some buttered breads. Disapointing? But it works! haha.

Well that would be like "To Munch Noisely", haha.
I Guess then: "Mastigada de Amora Azul". But, it kinda loses the charm in portuguese, haha.

How do literate Brazilians feel about the "BR" scum who infest every free online game known to man?
*Sigh*

Ok I knew this was coming sometime or another.

There is something here called "Digital Inclusion". Its a political situation where more and more people are getting access to the internet. Of course that access is instantanious as learning some proper ettiquete can take some time. (A lot of time to some).

And of course there are those that seek entertainment online (Damn that Zinga).

Just give it some time. They will learn.

This of course is not a rule, and someone should not be considered "Scumy" just for being brazilian... But You know the drill...

Is there a general sense of optimism among Brazilians about the future of your country? Are you on the up?
