My father spent 25 years in a psych ward.

He was a nurse.

Used to tell me about this one guy who had to be restrained else he'd go to the nearest bathroom and chow down on unflushed turds.

What sorts of illnesses would see one committed to a psychiatric ward?

A mate of mine is a junior doctor doing her rotation in the psych ward. She's has a few patients who are simply shamming. There's a couple of reasons why they do this, some are avoiding court dates overs just avoiding going back to their life. They're not mentally ill just unhappy and unwilling to make the effort required.

It seems to be surprisingly hard to force these people to leave even though they need the space for people who are actually in need of help.

So my questions are:

Were there any patients there you felt were faking?

Did you ever get the sense that maybe the doctors didn't believe the patients?
