What are the physical requirements for the British Armed Forces?

What do you think of the Marine Corps?

Any training tips for a guy getting himself ready to join the military?(running, stretches, workouts, shooting)

How does it feel to be awesome?

No.

What trade are you?
like I used to be a Navy BOSN, what about you?
I'm first and foremost a Rifleman. Amongst the Royal Marines you are always a Marine first and foremost. I haven't specialised in anything yet. I'm still a General Duties Soldier. I need another 6 months before I can request a specific trade.

You said that something along the lines of patrols and such, would that imply that you're an infantryman? Also,if you don't mind my asking, what kind of gear do you carry around anyway?Apart from a standard rifle, some optical gear and personal stuff,I have no idea.

Physically, you need to be pretty fit. A standard run time should be less than 10minutes for 1.5 miles and less than 20minutes for 3 miles. You need a good amount of upper body strength and i would recommend weighing a little over 70Kg. Otherwise your bergen is going to be heavier than you.

I love The Royal Marines. All Clichés aside. the best friends you'll make are in the forces.

As for tips, run. LOTS. Swim and get a general level of fitness. The Forces don't look for superman, they make you into superman.

Had a Royal Marine for a PL SGT on some exchange program where you send some over here. I'll just say it wasn't the most fun I've had in my life :/ You guys are so much more regi over there than we are here it seems.

I'm a Royal Marine. We use the standard L85A2 rifle, which I like very much. Though some of the boys have been issued the new sharp shooter rifle, from what i hear it's a good bit of kit. The gear is pretty standard. We have Osprey armour, which is top notch. Heavy, but it does the job. Gear is largely based upon which role you provide. As a basic rifle man I carry ammunition, rations and other items that are required to fight and live.

Fair play, most of the exchanges are with the USMC. ( I've only been in a year and half. )

How good a shot do you actually have to be?
Do people with previous firearms experience tend to do better or worse in weapons handling after training/overall.

Still in High School, planning on doing an ROTC program through college, pays for tuition and then some. But in return, after college, I have to serve 6 years in the Navy as an officer, worth it?

What's the most trouble you've gotten into? What was it for?

Funniest story?

Least favorite thing about the military?
When you've got a Royal Marine Sergeant watching you, you don't do anything stupid...Haha.

The only good story is the Tear gas. In Biological and chemical warfare training. They take the unit into a room, and release tear gas. Once a man has said his name, rank and number he can leave. Funniest thing I've seen in a while.

Wet and dry routine. ask anyone. Its hell.

the training is possible the single hardest thing you will ever do in your life. But hell is it worth it. All together it comes to 32 weeks training. You are given a eye test before joining. those who do not fall into the correct category are not allowed to join. ( Depends largely on role/service. )

Yeah, fair enough, it was insane, making everyone stand to attention while talking to him and shit. USMC weren't much better from what I saw in Hawaii, I saw a LCPL go absolutely off at a PTE. If you ever got yelled at by a LCPL here you'd be wondering who the hell sent you back to kapooka. Everything is so much more chilled here when you're not on OPs or on Ex, even on Ex it's usually pretty calm. I don't think I could go back to being super-regi, it might kill me I think
