How good a shot do you actually have to be?
Do people with previous firearms experience tend to do better or worse in weapons handling after training/overall.
You need to have a decent grouping. Though they will teach you. Yes, if you have previous experience it's a massive help. One of the questions they ask before is: "Do you shoot?"

You said that something along the lines of patrols and such, would that imply that you're an infantryman? Also,if you don't mind my asking, what kind of gear do you carry around anyway?Apart from a standard rifle, some optical gear and personal stuff,I have no idea.
I'm a Royal Marine. We use the standard L85A2 rifle, which I like very much. Though some of the boys have been issued the new sharp shooter rifle, from what i hear it's a good bit of kit. The gear is pretty standard. We have Osprey armour, which is top notch. Heavy, but it does the job. Gear is largely based upon which role you provide. As a basic rifle man I carry ammunition, rations and other items that are required to fight and live.
How much water did you carry out in the desert?
I'd imagine you'd go through it really quick, having to lug around all the gear.

I can't give you a proper answer, I'm infantry. Navy as in on a boat? I have no idea. The only words I can give you are: It's much better than Civilian life. As an officer, you'll get decent pay too. The rewards are massive if you make a career. All I can say is look into it more and ask at your local careers centre.

Carry as much as you can. Most of us buy our own 2L Hydration packs. And then lug a few bottles in our sack. We drink every hour on patrol. Or whenever when at camp.

What killstreaks do you have equipped?
UAV - Predator missile - Helicopter. On a good day, replace Pred with Airstrike. There's nothing more awe-inspiring than a 500Lb hitting a compound.

Where are you stationed? In a Central Operating Base? What are your living quarters like? Are the barracks, kitchen, rec. room, all in the same building? I actually might have a lot of questions, the script I'm writing for a class is about the military.

On operation, we are stationed at Forward operation bases. We have Tents/Shacks for our living quarters and showers are outside ( huts ) The Kitchens/Cafe are normally in a shack and the rec room? Depends how lucky you are.

At camp bastion, things are a little more cramped ( depending ) But the rec room there is ok.

Here, at our local barracks. Things are different. We have shared showers and the rooms we have whilst shared are quite spacious. ( Shared between 4/6 People )It's really not that bad. Training is the worst part, once that's out of the way it calms down. ( A little )

Anything more specific, just send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to help!

Just want to say before I start, I'm from an RAF family myself and I figure it can't hurt to say what a great job you guy's do. :)

What's the closest you've ever been to a Taliban fighter (if you're ok with talking about it) and how much close quarters combat is there on the ground in general?

How much ammo do you tend to carry around with you on average? I'm guessing it's not +500 rounds and about 10 grenades total, Call of Duty style.

Off the record (if that's possible) do you agree with our current strategy in Afganistan, or do you think we should be pushing the Taliban harder/focusing on civilian confidence more?

Who's better, Marines or Paras? (Airborne for any US troops on this thread)

Would you join the SAS if they invited you?

A standard run time should be less than 10minutes for 1.5 miles and less than 20minutes for 3 miles.
Should I be able to do that before enlisting?

What do you think of the USMC?

I plan on joining the Army or the USMC do you have any opinion on which I should join?

What is your favorite gun that you've used?

What about a 1000Lb Bomb?

(also, respect to Buchholz101 for best question yet)

The closest? I've never seen them. All I got was a whistle, thump, bang, cloud of dust and some shrapnel. Cheeky shits.

On average, the standard rifleman will carry just around 300/400 rounds. For a long day. Personally, I only ever carried one grenade. They honestly scared me.

I've only been deployed once, but I can say I approve of what we're doing. It's more defence and to show the Afghan people that they can stand on their own two feet.

Marines, any day of the week. Take your poncy Maroon beret somewhere else ;)

SAS? Nope, they prefer Para's. SBS on the other hand.
