BANDWAGON JUMPING IS FUN!!!

Anyway, first off, don't tell me "oh everyone has that" I was legitimately diagnosed with this condition, and am medicated for it, it's a spectrum condition, but you can't self-diagnose, if you think you have it, you should talk to your doctor so they can refer you to a specialist.

What is ADD like? It's not quite what you might think. Everyone knows about the slacking off and not paying attention, but there is another side to it that I personally love. Sometimes I push deadlines, but I'm a very successful student, and that's because when I need to, that very same hyperactivity that can be a problem allows me to focus and work very quickly and efficiently, when I go into "laser focus" (yes, I named it :) ) I can get quality work done at an unbelievable rate.

If you want to know what it feels like, imagine being hyper all the time, like you're on a combination of caffeine and cocaine, it can be a problem, but it can also be very fun.

How do I know that you're not going to get bored and not answer my question?

Yeah yeah, and I've been diagnosed with Asperger's. Big deal.

Frankly the idea has been done so many times that the novelty has worn off.

Why is it called ADD and treated with medication? When I was a kid, it was called hyperactivity and was treated with a clip round the ear and told not to be a twat.

Try having H-free ADD & Dyscalculia; it's like being anemic & not being able to remember your phone number or how old you are. Multitasking becomes a way of life because you can't focus on anything (no matter how interesting) for more than a few moments. Right now, I'm working on an art meme, messing around in a forum, reading a manga, updating a blog, reading an article, & browsing Digg while listening to a guy on YouTube rant & planning dinner in my head.

Don't take the medications....they will all have lifelong or immidiate drastic side-effects, all of them undesirable. Weight gain, hairr loss, hair regrowth of a different color/texture/thickness, masculine hair growth on young women, corruption of the metabolism, & they can even render you emotionaly disabled.

Same man, or just shouted at. I seriously was under the impression that that ADD was just children, teens in general and someone really wanted a medical excuse to get their kids to stfu :)

I absolutely love how we are all showing off how dysfunctional we are

I'm dyslexic, that's about it, i have repremanded many people for claiming they have ADD or associated dissorders when they clearly don't, it is a serious condition afterall.

It's called ADD for "Attention Deficit Disorder" and it's treated by medication because modern science has revealed that it is not a personality quirk but in fact a measurable chemical imbalance in the brain

It's not, I'll say it again "Measurable chemical imbalance in the brain" it's real, and it's pretty serious. People who think they have it almost always don't, it's like thinking you have OCD, you don't.

Strangely enough, ADD is commonly treated with STIMULANTS, never quite got that.

Nope, nope, ye-up, yes, I am a dude, just about...

Wow, well... This has opened up a new depressing door for me... So friggin' glad I'm no longer on the meds though. I hated those little bastards so much.

OP: I'd be the one with the caffine/cocaine combo... It isn't as fun as it sounds...

I do apologise, but I suppose this threads purpose was to keep out people with misconceptions like me and educate them overwise. Again, I am sorry.

You would think that my annoyance at people when they say they have OCD because they say, like to be clean would have crossed over (i don't have OCD, it's just that I know it can be quite bad) into the ADD area. I'll make a mental note, but I do think far to many people seem to get diagnosed with mental disorders in the USA than you would think, at least thats the feeling I get whenever one of these threads open up, or reports from the news etc.
