So, I was thinking the other day, there are ALOT of things in gaming that nobody really questions.

For example, I was thinking about Sonic. No, not how he has one eyeball with two pupils (although that is weird), I'm talking about his spin-dash move. How the hell does that work? I mean, it just defies all laws of physics. He spins really fast... but doesn't move. What's holding him back? Is it like cartoons, where he doesn't start rolling until he realizes he's supposed to? And for that matter, how the hell can he see where he's going when he's rolling that fast?

Another thing is, in Fallout 3, when you loot a soda machine, and it only has one soda in it, why is that? Did someone buy every soda in the machine except for one? Or if someone looted the machine before me, why did they take every soda EXCEPT one?

Why does the blue shell hate first place drivers so much? Why don't Dante and Bayonetta ever run out of bullets? Why doesn't Chuck turn into a zombie even though he gets bitten all the time in his daily commute? (and for that matter, how does orange juice do anything for a bite wound?)

Questions, questions, questions. What are some of yours?

Why do we have cutscene instakill quick time events when the ONLY quick time events SHOULD be ones where YOU get into the situation yourself that requires the use of them to get out (Dead Space 2) OR in a game based on quick time events. (Heavy Rain)

Why do characters die from one shot instantly in cutscenes, with no chance of revival and despite being shot a couple hundred thousand times prior to that.

Following on the Fallout 3 one:

How can a super sledge fit into this mailbox? How can this Fatman also fit into the mailbox? A gatling laser, minigun and missile launcher too? How big is this mailbox?

Since when can you cut things in half with a blunt weapon, Kingdom Hearts? How the heck did I slash that hooded bloke's cards in half with what is effectively a STICK?

They would have taken the last one, but then they would've been over-encumbered :p

OT: For CoD why hip-firing at close range is so difficult. I mean, if someone is standing still, and you're literally running into him, how can you POSSIBLY miss that shot?

How come, in Half Life 1 or Deus Ex, all the four-foot-square crates contain nothing but a single tiny box of bullets or a tool you could carry in your pocket?

In Splinter Cell, how come none of the enemies see the big green lights on Sams face and back?

In MGS4, how do nanomachines do ANY of the many miraculous things accredited to them? (Oh, wait, everyone questions this... n/m)

In Arkham Asylum, how come when Batman hangs upside down from a gargoyle, his cape seems to defy gravity, standing straight up around his legs?

Why do most video game characters never need to eat, sleep, drink, or relieve themselves?

Also, over what time spans do the Pokemon video games take place? A couple of days? Why is Ash able to become the world's greatest trainer in a couple days?

Why, during duel scenes, do two people hit each other at the same time, and only one seems to experience a fatal wound that gushes blood a few seconds after the hit?

~8 seconds after the hit, they then fall to the ground?

One more easy one.

How the hell can people jump higher than their height in a single bound? And in most cases perform another jump in the air? Jeez... Its cool when its a magical item or something, but when a character can just /do/ it, its a little freaky.

How do mushrooms and Fire Flowers give Mario powers?
Why does everyone in turn-based games patiently sit there for hours? Why do shopkeepers have progressively better weapons and armor for just your characters?
How do people in fighting games not wind up with at least bruises, let alone bone breaks and amputations?

Looters are incredibly courteous when it comes to drinks machines. They only ever take one Nuka-cola, despite however many there actually are, just so the next traveller that comes along with also have one to take. This is represented in-game by your only being able to take one drink whenever you use a machine.

Why is archery so commonly represented as weak ranged attacks? Bows can easily kill/maim anyone you point them at in real life.

OT: how are all the fighters in mortal kombat able to have 2nd rounds? wouldn't they both be dead after three special moves

also why can't I knock down any doors in any of the silent hill games? Even though they're all barley hanging on by their hinges. I have a freaking shotgun I could blow that door to bits
