Dunno why people buy things on release let alone pre-order them. I'd have to be overwhelmingly sure of the quality of something to pay for it a year in advance... But meh, guess people will never learn. The stupidity of pre-orders aside, I don't think we should presume the masses are totally insane. If they're that eager for the new one they probably didn't think Unity was that bad.

This why I stopped supporting Ubisoft in total, how can you make a quality game if you only have a year to develop it, then a year after that to make it's sequel? My view is that after 3 games they will have 1 they should made to begin with.
You realize their development studios are huge and these games get several years of development time but cycle their release dates to launch at least one per year, right?
I know that full and well, I also realize that them sharing resources on one title instead of rushing 3 titles in parallel would most likely lead to a better product for the consumer.

And here I am still twiddling my thumbs playing Black Flag in the Edward's Privateer outfit, because I'm the only person in the world that seems to think that it's his only good one.

On another note, no thank you Ubisoft. I already have Bloodborne to have a stiffy for, your useless pandering isn't going to do anything but make me wonder why no major city in Europe hasn't decided that it doesn't want to be involved with you at this point.

I bought AC unity on day one and didn't regret it. Glad i didn't listen to people who liked to exaggerate and use hyperbole.

But yeah, AC is pretty much like a slightly less worse version of COD.

At least their historical settings always hit the mark and is appealing

Authentic Crusader setting: YESSS!!!!!!
American revolutionary wars and ship battles: Good stuff
Pirates: YESSS!!!
French Revolution and 1:1 Paris: HnnnGGGG

And i NEVER understand people demanding japan or some other far flung place.

It kinda makes sense theres always a western focus since

1. Its a western and very European studio (Canada, Quebec, Montreal) so they can relate to pirates, and american revolution and french revolution etc.

2. The templars are after all founded by a bunch of french who went on the crusades and the assassins are also derived from the crusades. Its just weird having them go to China or something, do we really need to have the Templars having their fingers in EVERYTHING the writers can concieve of?

The whole series lore is already convoluted and boring. Save the asian and south american setting for another series which can do it justice. Wish they would just create an awesome Crusades game and an awesome pirates game that isnt AssCreed :( while they're at it.

All I can say is, "DON'T BUY IT AT LAUNCH". Once it comes out and has been looked over by tons of reviewers I'll decide what I think of it.
You're too late. A million people just pre-ordered it when they saw the announcement. Probably because they want to see British people without faces.

Also because people have really short term memories.

"Well, Pre-ordering worked out badly with Unity, but I'm sure it won't happen again from the same series by the same company...."
I can't believe this. They pre-ordered a game set to come out next a year from now? That's just tragic.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's not available for pre-order yet(so a little bit exaggerated). It still doesn't change my point that as soon as pre-order is available, a bunch of people will pre-order it despite how crap the experience was with Unity.

OT: Yeah, not surprised at all. Same way Titanfall 2 was announced in development within a week of Titanfall launching and Destiny 2 was also supposedly in the works as well shortly after launch. Hopefully that one's just in pre-production so they can think of an actual story to tell or give something a label that doesn't include the article "the".
I'm sure they've been working on Victory for at least the past year, it must take more than a year to create an AC game.

But we should consider the consumer fatigue, many people are already sick of Assassin Creed, keeping the one game a year release schedule after seeing the rushed finished product of Unity is going to set the fatigue in more. They are really going to keep making games till the everyone hates AC and the IP is worthless.

They also don't give a crap to series veterans, the modern plot we got invested in in the first few games had a terrible payoff, and is now ignored and may as well be taken out of the game completely, all they care about is getting new people in the series because the longer you stay in the series the more you get fatigued by the one game a year schedule.

It doesn't help that the combat system does not lend itself to repetition, to paraphrase TotalBiscuit in his Far Cry 4 video, people are more likely to get sick of a counter combat system, compared to something like FPS.

Has anyone wondered what they'll be doing after Victory? I know, I know, looking ahead before even taking the next step is what is tripping us up here, but I have to wonder. They started roughly 900 years ago with AC1, and have steadily moved forward a century or two with every new installment. After Victorian England, where can they go but into the 20th century? By then we'll hardly be talking about historical periods anymore, we'll be set in a time that living people have actually experienced. Will they just break tradition and start moving backwards? It seems they have to.

Whatta ya know, guess I answered my own question.

All I have to say about Assassins creed victory is WHY THE FUCK ISN'T IT IN ANCIENT EGYPT!!??
I hear its being made by the Ubisoft C team. The A team made unity and the B team made Rogue, so far the C team have made DLC like King Washington and Freedom Cry (They better have both Team A and B working on AC Egypt). I'm kind of happy there is now a British Assassins creed, I hope they capitalize on the painfully obvious Jack the Ripper thing, that just seems like free material for them. From what I've seen visually the game looks great, the assassin looks cool, the grappling hook will probably be cool and you can fight a child slaver in the middle of a rainy London street, on top of a speeding carriage. And that sounds Awesome.

I've not played AC Unity yet. I've heard its glitchy as hell. That seems to be everyone's most common complaint, but AC Rogue which came out recently runs absolutely fine. So I don't think we can write this game off as glitch fest just yet. Seriously people AC Rogue was fine, just because Unity wasn't doesn't mean that Victory will be a mess.

I adore the AC series. Not because they are beautifully created well written masterpieces. But because I love history and no other game series lets you get involved with this sort of history in the same way, yeah lots of strategy games are historically themed, but I don't want to game through history as a disembodied set of eyeballs in the sky watching little men slap each other. I want to experience it first hand, I want to go and chat with historical figures and then stab their made up friends.

And for everyone who is just here to say I stopped playing after AC 2, seriously give AC Black Flag a try everyone loved it.

Have you been living under a rock OP because I'm pretty sure Ubisoft themselves have said they will move onto yearly release dates for their franchises and they have been doing it since the first AssCreed. Hell, they released 3 AssCreed games in 2009. 3 games in 1 year.

And people complain about Nintendo.

Eh, the only AC game I've enjoyed for more than a couple hours total was Black Flag. I'm not sure quite what they managed to get right in it that they've failed at in all the others, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the sheer cool factor of pirates is a big chunk of it.

That said, I'll be interested to see how Londoners are depicted in this. Foreign media usually gets London so, so very wrong. Especially the accent and vocabulary.

Remember: Nobody has ever, or will ever, called somebody 'Guv'nor';- unless that person is, in fact, a Governor.

They already did, IV is set before III.

We Brit's don't have faces anyway, but the opportunity to stick a blade into snobbish Victorian Brit's could be entertaining....

Oh wait, that's the wrong attitude isn't it? Yeah, err boo Ubisoft!

I stopped playing DURING AC 2. Seriously, it kept putting me to sleep with how boring it was. The combat mechanics seemed really wonky compared to the original game, Ezio always runs up/down the wrong walls (again, not a problem I had with the original), and many other things seemed like a total fucking mess. I never touched another AC game again. Until...

After many recommendations, I started playing Black Flag two nights ago. This is about the most fun I've had playing a video game all year. ;) I'm only halfway through the second sequence, so I can't do ship battles yet, and that's the biggest reason WHY I took the advice of others to get the game! I'm a sucker for pirate games and I'm already bouncing around like an excited child even before I've reached the content I'm most looking forward to. Whatever it was that Ubisoft fucked up between the first and second games, they put right (and then some!) in Black Flag.

OT - I agree that it's pretty foolish to announce the next title so soon after the debacle of Unity (not that I've played Unity, but you have to live in a cave not to have seen seen/heard what the fuss was all about). Double stupid of them releasing this news only a week after canceling Unity's season pass due to the severe number of issues the game apparently has. Then again, maybe this is Ubisoft's idea of a distraction. If only it didn't read like another desperate-then-botched PR attempt.

I'm not justifying the technical issues of Unity but it's a complex game with a new engine and lots of moving parts. This isn't a simple 16-bit game. I played through most AC games but with Unity it definitely felt like they returned to the drawing board and started again from scratch, which is an ambition I appreciate as they could just as easily made another Black Flag using the existing engine and assets. Unity is much like the first AC game in that it tries a lot of new stuff but lacks a certain refinement that future entries have(hopefully Victory will improve on this).

Also Unity is nowhere near as unplayable as people claim it is. I played through the entire game almost without issues. With a game of this magnitude and complexity you are bound to find people whose experiences will differ. For me this game was nowhere near as bad as Bethesda games, which are a broken mess almost without exception. And they always get a free pass for some reason. There are also people hating on Ubi who haven't even played the fucking game, which is even more ridiculous if you think about it.

...Cause Assassin's Creed games have been a yearly release game for the past few years? No bad launch is gonna stop that. Chances are, they even sold quite a few copies.

It's overload and I think any product that requires 10 independent studios to work together is begging for trouble. (Unity)

I got hyped for black flag because pirates ^_^

and I grew disinterested in Unity with the female character debacle and the emphasis on multiplayer.

Im not sure what direction to take the games in at this point. I like the idea of trumping around different periods of history. Less emphasis on the assassins and templars ^_^? It seems like
the weakest element of the games.

"OH COOL! I'm kickin it with de Vince"

"hey kid, wanna join this crazy war between MAYBE gods and aliens and spies and hexagons n shit?"

"...na...that's cool...I'mma go talk about art with motha fuckin Da Vince"

"wha...but...this is all SUPER INTENSE STU-"

"Na man...can I ...can I kick it with Van Goah?"

They haven't Ubisofted it yet. The game was likely finished a year ago, but they had to add 20 towers the player has to climb, uPlay, microtransactions and make the protagonist American for no discernible reason.

I'm just disappointed they didn't go for a more different time period than "a different city that looks superficially similar save for a couple landmarks"

I want another Black Flag, not necessarily a pirate game, but an Assassin's Creed game that takes the franchise in an interesting direction. Like ancient Egypt, South America or Japan or something.

I thought the overarching plot to Ass Creed was ancient aliens or something? What better place for that than the fucking Pyramids? aka the giant things that a bunch of slaves couldn't possibly built. It was aliens.
i dislike the series but black flag was a great game even if the main character was a giant twat. honestly if they just dropped the assassins creed stuff and just made historical games they would do better, black flag felt like they were shoe horning stuff in
