(I don't think I see a thread about this, so here I go.)

This game kept me up for three days. I couldn't rest until I found the truth. The secret of the gods, the apple, Adam and Eve; It thrills, doesn't it? Da'Vinci Code all over again.

I've set up this thread because I'd like help putting together what I've seen happen in beating the game, solving Subject 16's puzzles, and reading the codex pages.

Starting with the beginning, an advanced race of humans who are the "gods" (In the building/Garden of Eden) create an inferior, human race (possibly from experimenting)for maybe the purpose of slavery or worshipers. They were made with sleeping neural transmitters in their brains so that they could be controlled with "the pieces of Eden", specifically made orb(s?), sword, and staff. However, the original copies "Adam" and "Eve" steal the apple, trying to escape with it. Subject 16's video ends, leaving us wondering what happened to them...

Perhaps they really were banished out of "paradise", and created children under slight surveillance from the gods. Generations later, they rebel against the gods for casting them out of paradise.

What we know from the ending of the game is that everyone was wiped out from an event in space which caused the sun to explode/burn the entire planet. Yet humans had survived, hiding in "temples" (or something Minverva mentions).

Then, Mankind emerges anew. and everything we know of all beliefs and religions are centered around the advanced, futuristic humans that created us like "Minerva" or "Jupiter".
Then, the old relics that were used to control humans re-emerge. The apple most likely created the man we know as "Jesus" or "Krishna". A man who went across the world, manipulating followers with his apple (you see this even on a codex page).

Finally, The Templars and their opposites, The Assasins, are founded. The Templars seeking to rule the world with the relics, but above all: Achieve world order. The Assasin's seeking to help the people by ending the lives that have or would end many more.

My favorite Codex page is (Altair?) or some writer who points out the trend of worshiping one god and that when savages had made up gods for heat, air, gravity, etc, they were at least TRYING to explain nature (WHICH IS SCIENCE!!!)instead of saying some ray of light did it: Meaning our one god religions could all be "the greatest Lie ever told".

In Subject 16's puzzles, we see important figures holding the pieces of Eden. Learning that many were actually Templars and were behind world changing events like WWII.
-That they were the ones who burned Joan of Ark.
-That Nikola Tesla had found a piece of Eden, and accurately predicted something concerning radio waves. Was, however, forced to discontinue because of Thomas Edison.

AC2 was simply a thrilling game. It was my replacement for The Prince of Persia Trilogy (which I stubbornly say ends with the Two Thrones).

I would like everyone's help in making my theory better from with what you remember seeing in the game. I'm not sure if there is already some thread or site which already tells the Assasin's Creed story-line, but even if there is, I can put my mind at rest by making this thread.

I'm not even a conspiracy-theory kind of person, but that must be what makes this excellent story telling.

Sounds good to me. Might we see a return of the "gods" in Assassin's Creed 3? They might end up being the greater enemy and the Assassins and Templars might be forced into working together.

Perhaps, although both sides have been at each other's throats with completely different ideals for the past 1000 (?) years, so perhaps not. And at the end of Assassin's Creed 2 Minerva seems willing to help the Assassins in their goal, explaining the sun's apocalyptic shenanigans and all, so that may negate your theory. Although I'm willing to bet Ubisoft will come up with some even more batshit insane twist than the last in Assassin's Creed 3, a la Lost.

I wonder if they just make it up as they go along?

Adam and Eve were actually a result of the "Gods" cross breeding with some humans.
Altair, Ezio and Desmond are direct descendants of Adam and Eve, and as such have super human abilities; eg. Eagle Vision and heightened agility

I cant remember where i read this, i think it was the assassins creed wiki, but with the Cain and Abel story and how they are the first children of Adam and Eve, i think the Templar vs Assassin war started there since it was believed that Cain was the first Templar and Abel was the first Assassin.

This is taken from here:http://www.giantbomb.com/assassins-creed-ii/61-22928/ending-to-assassin-creed-2wtf-spoiler/35-272387/?
It sums up a lot of the ending stuff nicely.

Okay so, what I got from it is that there were people before humans, and that these people then made humans using the Piece of Eden. However, they manufactured the humans so they would obey them as long as the Piece of Eden was in their possession. Adam and Eve find out and steal the Piece of Eden, releasing the humans from their figurative chains, and leading a rebellion against them. So, in a sense, without realizing it, the "Gods" for lack of a better term, were the first Templars and Adam and Eve, along with all who followed, were the first Assassins. And so they waged war. The "Gods" were stronger but the humans were way more numerous, so the "Gods" were fighting a losing battle. Then, out of nowhere, something that no one expected happened. Some kind of catastrophe involving the sun caused some kind of mass genocide, but there were survivors. Then, realizing that they should stop fighting and rebuild, the "Gods" and humans united. The "Gods" died out and after a looooooooooong time that really happened transformed from truth into myth and speculation since there was no written language. The "Gods" become actual Gods and the sun becomes some sort of be all end all for civilization. The Eastern Hemisphere "evolves" but the Western Hemisphere, or at least the middle of it, still know what's up. But then the conquerers come and destroy nearly everything, leaving only the calender that has the fateful day when it might all happen again--12/21/2012. So anyway, now nobody remembers and the world is doomed once more, except this time there are no "Gods" to protect the humans. However, the "Gods" foresaw this and put temples, or "Vaults" all over the planet to retell the actual tale. HOWEVER, Ezio finds it much too soon, before he can actually do anything about it. The "Gods" foresaw THIS too, and knew that Desmond would revisit the memories of his ancestors so they made sure that in the temple they let him know that they were talking to HIM and not Ezio. It can be assumed that Ezio passed this information down through his ancestors as well, which is probably why Desmonds parents knew it was so vital to keep him safe. So now the threat has shifted from the Templars ruling the world with the Piece of Eden to the sun destroying the world altogether. There's a catch though. Just like the first Vault that Ezio found, you need Pieces of Eden to gain entry to all the other ones. So now that Desmond has all his ancestors' abilities, along with the hidden blade, the search is on, both for another Piece of Eden and the Vaults themselves. Oh, and the Templars may or may not be oblivious to the fact that their doom is imminent. Whether they seek to just rule the world with the Pieces of Eden or save the world with the Pieces of Eden and THEN rule it remains to be seen. I think they know though. The satillite mentioned on one of the computers needed the Piece of Eden to function. I'm just not sure if it's to broadcast the mind-control effects or display the locations of the temples. Maybe the former, because they definitely want dominion like their ancestors. Maybe the latter, because Ezio did the exact same thing with the Piece of Eden when he found the location of the first Vault on the codex pages. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that Assassin's Creed III should involve an Eternal Darkness-esque search for the Pieces of Eden, locating and entering the remaining Vaults, and reconciling with the Templars. Or destroying them once and for all. Should be fun. :D

That makes sense. Especially considering that in one of the puzzles Subject 16 says "Behold, the Mark of Cain!" and above the pictures it shows the cross of the Templars.

Look at that. The due date for Assassin's Creed 3, 12/21/2012. Why not?
Perfect timing, no? Either we play a fantastic game (to hopefully end the trilogy) or all die.

As nice as it was to bash organized religion, I saw it coming. It was too obvious what was going on.
