I've been watching the Assassin's Creed 2 Developer Diaries Online lately, and one showed that since AC2 is set around the time that banking first came into existence, you will have to pay to upgrade your weapons and such(You will recieve money by pickpocketing, completing assassinations and missions,etc.).

I felt that the developers took a turn for the worst here. This aspect of the game could make or break it.On one hand it's positive, because you can upgrade your weapons and gadgets to your own rate,to suit your game style.
On the other hand earning currency may be harder than it sounds, and the game's ditching the routine upgrades you get at the end of each mission, taking away the sense of achievement.(Unless you have a 360)

I'd like to know what anyone thinks about this change,or the game in general.Or,are UBISOFT making to many changes in AC2

Thank You

If moneys to hard to get for you, STEAL IT! I mean come on, it's everywhere if you look at it.
Also links to prove this system would be nice.

I actually didn't like the whole "here, you get this upgrade after doing this for me". It was a pain to not be able to do everything I wanted. I like the fact that if I have the money, I can upgrade it myself without anything else holding me back.

As long as it's not overly hard to get cash then I think this is fantastic news, I didn't like that in the first one you were this awesome assassin but you got drip fed the decent gear.

Somehow i doubt an assassin will find it hard (a noble one at that) to get money

I actually like this better than the original system as the game now will have a more sandbox feel to it and you can get upgrades at your own pace.

I think it will be great, along with the entire game, but that may just be the hype talking.

I think it could work well; in the first game, I'd take more throwing knives over regular sword upgrades any day. I could improve my style the way I want to in order to suit my play methods.

Could be a game breaker but I doubt it. I just hope it isn't too hard or too easy to get cash to upgrade your equipment. Too easy would be worse than too hard because you could just ugrade everything to max without really doing anything for it. However too hard would be annoying but workable and an upgrade would feel like an acomplishment.

I trust in Ezio's invisible hands to regulate the flow of money.

Geddit? Eh? Eh? No...

I think the quality of this system will depend entirely on if we have access to money/options early on. This doesn't stop us being drip-fed gear, it makes it possible to have us work for our drip feed, like some kind of horrible dystopian mob sweatshop inside an intensive care unit. It's a tool, like any other game design feature, how it's employed will do more for our enjoyment than any amount of complexity will. I'm going to love this game like the last one (lots) no matter what happens, but I don't think everything about it will be utter gold. Geddit? Eh? Yeah!

If we can purchase sweet lewt for our fancily plundered gold, then awesome.

If we have to grind mini-missions for gold, allowing us to purchase a difefrent coloured hood and soundtrack options, then prepare to see my unhappy face. Yes, I know that as a WoW player/lover this makes me a bigger hypocrit than when Ahab donated to greenpeace.

Geddit? Eh? Eh?

Aha, I see what you did there!

OT: It also kind of depends on what will be offered as buyable upgrades and what will be taught to you and when by the various NPCs.

Hopefully this is moving towards what I first thought AC would be...

Agent 47 with a hood and no-guns (flintlock pistols allowed).

PLEEEASE. :D

Hardly think it's that bad. Plenty of games have got by just fine with this kind of system. In fact, just great. Look at Ratchet & Clank.

That being said, if it's done wrong, it could just mean more grinding, which is something I would have thought Ubisoft would want to keep well clear of, giving the feed back on the first AC. We shall see...

I actually think that it may be a good thing, it will add more to sandbox gameplay (you won't need to do the main quests to get the stuff you want) and it may actually give you a reason to do the side quests.
