I'm really trying to think of words that properly illustrate how I feel about the ending of this game, and the entire AC franchise in general. Two that come to mind are "fucking" and "retarded". This is without a doubt the most ridiculous and shameful excuse for story telling in games, that I've seen in the past decade. Tetris tells a better story than AC. I'm a ball of absolute hatred right now and would love to vent it with other people at how obscenely grotesque this game playing experience was. Spoiler your shirt if you'd please. I don't want to ruin the glory of the ending so other people can join me/us in our disbelief.
The entire focus of this entire series has been on how the Assassins want freedom over anything else. And Desmond makes it so the human race is enslaved.
No idea how anyone could look at this and say it has quality, or even consistency to it.
My only complaint with that is that is that I thought I would get a choice, but I digress.
The thing about the ending is that A. It sets up for a sequel and B. It further illistrates that the conflict between the Templars and the Assassin's has been completley pointless. They both want the same things, peace and equallity, but its been for nothing.

Which is beyond lame. How many narratives do you consider great when the ending is "Oh it turns out the whole thing didn't matter, hope you had fun being pointless LOL".
Hey, they had to set up sequels somehow. I mean, letting a good franchise end without trying to milk it with extra games and run it into the ground? What idiot would do that? Honestly, it was a kick in the balls. How can they even set up a new AC game that will even seem as intense as this.
Saving all of mankind (sorta) from a massive solar event is about as close to endgame as it gets. What can possibly happen next? Do it... again? I just don't get why they couldn't make a definitive end. Christ.
When the end of Connor's story finally came up I was happy with most of the resolutions, though the Templars as a whole shouldn't be that weakened.
The kicker was, of course, the shit Desmond ending which felt SO rushed and poorly thought out that I wonder why they even bothered having it? Why not end with Connor still searching or something to hook a sequel for him instead?
Also the credits in AC games are like 25 minutes...compared to the 10 minute dialogue-heavy end cutscene that doesn't quite seem right.
It was virtually indistinguishable from the Mass Effect 3 ending. It's like they made a checklist of everything that was wrong with Mass Effect 3's ending just so they could include them, because there's no way that they didn't notice the similarities of their ending during that shitstorm. For Christ's sake it even has space magic and the Jesus parallels thing going on.

They should've just ended the 2012 stuff and dropped the present day stuff altogether. Desmond's storyline could be interesting if they'd actually put in some effort (and it actually was kinda good up until the ending in AC3) but they've demonstrated time and time again that they're not willing to do that. Ubisoft should just put the focus entirely on historical periods, which is what people care about. Don't think many people would complain if they ditched the animus.
Being the huge cynic I am, I think this is just so they can have Desmond be an 'avatar' type character in the next one and keep the game mechanic while being able to actually play as Desmond. Having said that, as with ME3, it suffered from the problem of "How exactly ARE we going to resolve this huge problem we've set up?"

That entire sequence where Desmond goes to rescue his father and deal with Vidic is the biggest letdown and anti-climatic "fight" in the Assassins Creed series. I was ready for some dueling with the guards, or at least a length dialogue part where Vidic does some explaining and tries to bargain with Desmond, but no, he just asks for the Apple and you see what happens there. He knows the Apple can manipulate people, but holy fucking christ, he must have forgotten that in this scene. It's just fucking absurd that's how they deal with the big bad in the Desmond arc. I just shook the controller out of my hands and went to lie face down on the floor.
I'm just hoping that Desmond is dead and we don't have to deal with him ever again, that way I can go ahead and just have more adventures through historical events without the crappy modern conspiracy bullshit.
Does anyone else just feel that the whole modern technopriest aspect of these games just needs to go away? Find me ONE person that thinks the series wouldn't be better off only consisting of the Assassin stuff.
I mean, we have two different secret factions manipulating their way through the ages and interacting with the big names in history in ways we never thought of, with poison, assassinations, intrigue and politics. How is that not good enough to be a game on it's own? Why do we have to have this batshit 'god race from time immemoria trapped in a ball that can protect us (for reasons no one actually explained) but is also going to... do something bad to everyone' shit?

Worst part of it was Cross. Builds up to this big showdown, then you just end up chasing him for a couple of minutes while he has a mental breakdown. And by "chasing" I mean that you catch up to him immediately after you get to the cubicles and then spend 30 seconds trying to get the damn assassinate button to work.

A sequel does not have to be bigger in scale. A good story can overcome the fact the events in question are taking on a smaller scale. Bigger does not mean better.
I'm pretty sure there was an interesting Extra Punctuation article on this very subject.

The whole "hide behind the desk while he approaches with a gun" and then having him run off. Was that the Apple taking effect, seeing as how he had that yellow glow around his eyes. Desmond had the Apple afterall, so he could have used it. I don't know anymore, it was just so poorly done.

Yes, but now they have to go through the trouble of starting a new story arc, introducing new characters, and trying to find a niche that makes it unique to the other Assassins Creed game. Seeing as how they fucked Desmond over, and yet it did crap all to end the cycle, why should we commit to a new story that promises to be less "oomph" than the original. What else can they possibly do now that Desmond and his ancestors played such a crucial role? Introduce another modern average Joe that just happens to be a descendant of a skilled assassin again? I can't seem them making a more meaningful story that adds up to more investment as Desmond, seeing as how he saved the world.
After this I hope that they discontinue the future story, save for maybe a look at how the world is under the new dictator, I would like a game focusing only on the past. I loved all the Ezio games, and I liked the concept of the first even though I don't like the execution of it.
The ending was a bit of a letdown for me. A letdown in that I didn't get any say in the matter. What if I DIDN'T want to go through with it? Sucks for me, I guess.
What I think would be an interesting Assassin's Creed game is ditch Desmond, ditch the Animus, ditch all the future content. Make an Assassin's Creed game set in a certain time period with that specific Assassin Protagonist as the true main protagonist, and let THAT be the whole game. Not just the game within the game.
Question. Wasn't it a solar flare, similar to the 2012 one that killed the Ones that came before ?
If a whole race of these God people couldn't stop the invent with all of their technology then how could one single person from that race just click her fingers and done! Poof, tragedy averted! It makes no fucking sense! If they could have done that, they would have stopped their race getting blown the fuck up. Juno's powers just seem way to overexaggerated and the reason why she didn't use them to prevent the destruction of her people does not exist. So explain that to me.
I liked how the game protrayed the templars as almost good guys and reminding the player of the bigger threat, however the ending could of been better, I hate those spirit people they give me the creeps big time and letting juno go free seemed so out of place and unexpected I didnt know what to make of it, the story has not been consistent all the way through and they seem to be squeezing aload of information into the story at of nowhere.
The best part of the story easily was when you found out conor's dad was a templar after that it seemed to go down hill
Just in case it IS that bad as ME3, make sure that the diplomacy comes first AND to be well spread so NO ONE can say that we didnt ask for a legitimately explanation of what the fuck just happened.
For example, people seemed to forgot the Child's Play charity drive that people did for ME3 and call the gamers "whiny brats" because its not like BW prevented any meaningful discusion on their very forum, AMARIGHT?
