I'm just reading up on some rumors on the possible setting of AC3. And it seems there's a lot of speculation emerging from Shaun Hastings last words in the game as being a possible reference to Civil War era America.

I'm not trying to appear critical but if the next game is set in America, as opposed to the locales in the other games, I might just cry.

Civil War would certainly be a very different place to go, we've been to America and back again but how often in the Civil War era? Personally, I don't care where we go as long as the plot is nicely wrapped up, the game is still fun and high-quality. Hell, even if they continue the plot, as long as the game is AS GOOD or better than ACII/Brotherhood, I'll be happy.

....whats wrong with Civil War era-America? It was a pretty tumultuous time, in both politics and general violence, plus the setting isn't really even that much more high tech than AC2. You still have horses, mediocre guns (but the shift has started, so maybe instead of an arm gun we get a hold-out revolver?)

Plus, you know, Lincoln. One of the most famous assassinations in the world. Pretty big deal.

It can be set in a Burger King for all I care, as long as they make some sense in this shitstorm of a plot they've come up with. I'm still trying to figure out the end of Brotherhood. Not to say that it's a bad plot, but damn is it confusing.

Yeah no matter what it'll be good, but I think that compared to the Middle East and Italy/Europe we've seen in the last few games an American setting would just be upsetting.

So...have you ever been to civil war-era America? It was a pretty stab-happy time.

I thought the game was going to be during the French Revolution, due to the fact that Shaun pointed out that the Phrygian Cap and the Masonic Eye come together in, 'only one place', which is at the top of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen.

Then again, the two symbols are on the American dollar bill, so... Maybe America.

I'm hoping with all my heart that it's France, though. There are practically no games about the French Revolution.

admittedly im no civil war buff, but wasn't that war fought on big open muddy fields, and with guns, a AC game with no platforming and no possibilities of sneaking up behind your foe sounds rather boring.

can we do something other than america america is so over done. i know it will allow more AMERICANS to relate to the game but that hsnt stopped them from doing 12th century hily land and 16th century venice which i dont think many can realate to.
still at least its not ezio again thats a half win

I'm hoping for a French Revolution setting, that would be awesome.

But yeah, I would still play an American set AC3, I just am really hoping for another exotic location.

basically this. i dont see what is so bad about it.

or could it be..because it involves america? okay get off your high horse on geography, its an interesting time period set with lots of lore and shadow/assassination types involved, so it could work out pretty well depending on how they handled it.

Hmm, I could see it be set in post Civil-War setting with the opening plot being something along the lines of "The guy we are told who shot Lincoln was really a member of the assassin's guild framed by templars" and then grow a plot from there involving some grandious conspiracy that goes very high up the US government chain of command. Could be pretty cool if they have us sneaking around Washington D.C. murdering people. Though it could very easily fall into that pitfall of a masonic conspiracy which would kinda suck.

Frankly I'd like to see the next one be set somewhere like industrial revolution London or Nazi occupied France. The possibilities are really quite endless and it would be great if they found a way for us to operate in multiple locations and areas of history in one game AND still tie the plot together.

Its just America is so overdone in video games, its the setting for most games out there and I just find it refreshing when a game takes it upon itself to be different. Instead of conforming to the country with the largest market.

I think American Civil War would be fascinating. Lots of possibilities there. Hell, maybe we find out Stonewall Jackson was actually a Templar and was taken out by an assassin. >.>

i think that the problem is that it would be placed in the young days of America, in the other games we have had big sprawling cities, with tall magnificent buildings, and more importantly we want the future they have been talking about and hinting at both in and out of game, it would be like mirrors edge but with fun combat and more sandbox.

also i doubt that even if they do set it during the Civil War they will have you assassinate Lincoln, not only because they would most likely put you on his site, but think of the backlash.

Multiple story's in the same game tying them together in a grand spectacle of storytelling? yes please.

Lots of games are done in the largest market because it's the easy way out for developers. But if it were to be the American Civil War and it was done in an engrossing way where it doesn't feel like some arbitrary setting like so many other games, I don't see what the problem would be.
