Assassin's Creed 3: Where/when should it take place?

The team behind Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have indicated that they don't have any real interest in taking the next game in the series to a WWII setting, and I don't blame them. The Big One is pretty well-heeled territory, game-wise. They've also said that they're not much interested in setting the next game in Japan, being as the Japanese obviously have their own historical context for assassin culture.

So, I'm wondering what the opinions are on where the next game ought to take place? Personally, I'd love to see it go to Victorian-era England. The architecture style of the period would lend itself very well to the game's style. Plus, it was an extremely colorful period in history with a lot of political subtext that would no doubt tie nicely into the storyline. Not to mention the possibility for cameos...H.G. Wells could be that game's DaVinci. They never did explain what happened to Jack the Ripper, did they? Maybe another of Desmond's ancestors was tasked with taking him out due to the rumors that he was a privileged consort to the royal family. Jules Verne could pop over from Paris. And how much fun would it be to climb the Westminster Clock Tower as a viewpoint, swim the Thames, or weave in and out of the pools of cobblestone shadow between gaslights?

Anyone else have any ideas?

For, or against? I just worry ninjas have been done to death. Last thing we need is for the series to evolve into some sort of weak-sauce Tenchu clone.

To be honest you have just sold Victorian England to me. It has brilliant architecture, long narrow winding streets, were people could easily disappear. And I can't recall a game ever being set there before, it would be a very unique and interesting game.

The only problem with Victorian England is the prevalence of gunpowder, which would screw up the combat a lot.

Well since the second game as set itself up for WWII with the mentions of C and H doing a war over in Europe to try purge it I think that is where it will most likely end up.

As Valkyrie says, if it goes much further forwards in time, guns become a lot more common, which would indeed muck up the combat. Although, Victorian England is already awesome [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_hat], having assassins in it would just make it more so.

That, more than anything, is the reason I'd love to see it. Unlike WWII and ninjas, Victorian England hasn't been done to the point of cliché. Plus, for all of the reasons you mentioned, it just WORKS. It would meld seamlessly with the existing storyline, and the potential for missions that would have historical context would be damn near endless.

3000 years into the future, in what used to be the altantic ocean

ww2 would suck (we've all had enough of killing nazi's)... medieval japan might be nice, but then you'd basically be playing tenchu. if the problem with the future is too much gunpowder, they could just have it be a DYSTOPIAN future where there is no gunpowder, though it would be difficult to tackle the science and we've probably been there only slightly less than ww2 to be honest...

This is relevant how? We're talking about AC3, not ACB. Why did you link to a specific post, anyway?

It would have to be addressed. But I'm thinking it wouldn't be a HUGE deal. England has never really had the gun culture America has. Hell, even the cops in England didn't carry guns until the last 20 years, or so. My folks lived in London in the seventies, and the bobbies still just carried batons even then.

But it would be interesting for whomever the character might be to have to develop a set of disarming/avoidance techniques that would center on firearm defense.

During the French Revolution. A Scarlett Pimpernel twist could be done.
Admittedly, that would also be very cool. Really, any tumultuous period in history, where a lot was happening politically, and there was distinctive architecture would work.

Egypt, perhaps? It would definitely be something new.
Hm...I'd worry that a middle-eastern setting might be too close to AC1. And, as history has progressed, the major centers of civilization have sort of geographically migrated West with the passage of time. So if AC1 was set in crusades-era Israel, and AC2 renaissance Italy, England and/or France during the Victorian era would almost seem to be a natural next step.

After the end off ACII, I'm surprised more people didn't come to the conclusion that I did. I think that you're going to take full control of Desmond in the "present" and take part in his fight against the templars. I mean, they basically handed you all the abilities of Ezio in that warehouse tutorial level thing right in the middle of the game, and why give Desmond the abilities if he isn't going to use them?

I'm kinda looking forward to it. Assassin's Creed gameplay in a near-future setting could be incredibly fun.

EDIT: I also just rememebered
what that "God" hologram lady says after you kill the Pope (lol). She addresses Desmond directly and places the responsibility on him, and Ezio was just a tool to do so.I'd be shocked if we weren't in control of Desmond next time.

This for me two.
Though WW1 would be neat to. Trench warfare was Hand to hand mostly. But at most a Trench fight would be short because it, Like lots of Gun play would kill the game.

But isn't there only supposed to be three games? If so then a Chunk of the game Must be in modern times. I can understand if they want him alive, using sticks and all... But after a short bit of that, Guns would come out. And I don't want some Bullet time added.
