The Assassin is actually Jack the Ripper.
Fun idea... but Jack the Ripper was in the 19th century...

Ooh, and the authorities are the Templars who are purposefully demonizing Jack the Good-guy Assassin, turning the public against him. Finally, a story with depth.
This game; it'll be un-FUCKING-believable!

Also, hasn't it been kind of established already that Revelations is Ezio's last hurrah? I remember knowing that for awhile. Meh. Either I'm right, or I'm psychic and everyone should worship me or I'll tell you your favorite color.

First of all, my theory for exactly what the fuck is going on in that series.

Desmond has been in animus for this entire series and has never left. Even the events of 2012 are simply Desmond's memories being seen through an Animus in the future. There's some evidence of this if you solve all the Truth puzzles(you can skip to about 2:10):

"It is far later then you know. Too late to save them...Everything you hold dear...It's already gone!"

This is kinda hinted at in the credits as well(at about 1:15):

It sounds like Desmond is in an Animus, and is experiencing some nasty effects from re-living Lucy's murder. This would help explain how Desmond goes from the Vault at the end of Brotherhood, right to the "bottom" of the Animus (the "Black Room") in Revelations.

So what does all this mean? Firstly, I don't think the world has been blown up by the sun yet. For obvious reasons. But I think the Templar sattelite launch has already happened, and the REAL present day is one ruled by the Templars, oblivious to the danger the sun poses. Therefore, I think Assassin's Creed 3 will have Desmond running around a Templar-controlled world, looking for "Eve" and the ancient temples. Probably with the help of whoever's talking in the credits. Also, (and this is just a personal wish for the game, no evidence to back it up) I think Desmond will have mastered the Bleeding Effect to the point that he can access random memories across history whenever he wants, entering the lives of multiple ancestors for short periods of time.

What I'm really wondering is what the FUCK is going to happen at the end of Revelations. The endings of each of the games in this series seems to be trying to out mind-fuck the others, so...I'm pretty psyched.

I am okay with this.

Or Imperial Japan, perhaps, as someone has already suggested. Otherwise, just wrap it up and finish the series off already with a final game as Desmond.

It's becoming clear that as the games go on, Desmond is getting more and more game-time, so even if there is still another historical ancestor, I think we'll get some sort of combat or final confrontation with Desmond.

I find the story laughable at best, the organizations are about as "secret" and "discreet" as the Blackwater mercs. Well the Templars anyway if the Subject 16 puzzles are to be believed. Apparently they put a TV channel which can be viewed by everyday people if they flip through the channels enough which records their information, and what do they do when they found out some guy has? Oh they bust in his door and abduct him, yah his neighbors surely wouldn't notice.

Desmond is the worst part, he's just been taken out of the bag of average characters and is someone who bores me so much that I speed through his parts to get back to cool Ezio.

Perhaps early colonial era, during then guns weren't developed enough to be a replacement for crossbows yet and you could have a segment in 1588 where the Assasin's assist the English vs. the Spanish armada using perhaps Da Vanci's machines?

No even better Christopher Columbus goes to the New World to fight Templars disguised as innocent natives.
I would put money on the fact that Columbus would be labeled as a Templar. He enacted genocide on an entire group of people for the sake of profit; Ubi would not give him the title of Assassin or any sort of protagonist.

For those mentioning somewhere in Asia, keep in mind that they must be an ancestor of Desmond, whose lineage does not go into Japan.
I was just joking since someone suggested Jack the Ripper, a homicidal maniac who disemboweled prostitutes would make a great character.

Also their was a lot of mixing between European merchants and Japanese so the character could be biracial (hell Desmond already is). Or for the sake of bad writing just introduce another assassin. I mean Desmond can't literally be the only person in the entire world who's an assassin's descendant. Been years since I played ACI but I distinctly remember their being Japanese on the walls from subject 16's messages in addition to other languages.

Personally I think a good setting would be the American revolution, followed with a sequel like Brotherhood that takes place during the French Revolution with the same character. Both of those time periods would be really interesting for seeing who is an assasin and who is templar, I'd like it if it wasn't so cut and dry. Like in the Jacobin camp, Dante and Marat might of been idealistic assasins but Robspierre a templar double agent. Also Benjamin Franklin should replace DaVinci for making your weapons.

But there is a problem with the franchise, hoods go out of fashion for centuries, the renaissance was really the last place. With that in mind an alternate game idea could be even earlier back to the Roman times, perhaps set in Carthage.

Personally, I think that, in AC3, Desmond will get to experience the genetic memories of his long lost ancestor Hector, a young, smooth-talking Velociraptor living peacefully in the Nemegt Formation with his family.

One day, Hector's family is wrongly accused of being herbivores by a pack of catholic Brontosaurs, forcing young Hector to flee to the edge of Mongolia, where he is forced to take refuge under a rock plateau, which is owned by his uncle, Bob.

With the help of a friendly Stegosaurus, Hector will learn secret deadly assassination techniques, scale large and beautifully rendered volcanoes, and slowly get revenge on the pseudo-religious sauropods that tried to kill him.

And naturally, the skills acquired by Hector will also be transferred to Desmond. In the present day, Desmond will learn to scavenge for unprotected eggs, and to disembowel his foes with his teeth and claws...

Ubisoft said that next year will be the end of Desmond's story so I wouldn't be surprised if the game will be 100% about him.

But after that anything is possible.

A modern day version could work because of hoodies. But yeah it's really hard to imagine an Assassin in a tricorn hat or a bowler hat depending on the era.

But Roman time game could have you running along the rooftops of Syracuse or Carthage wearing Lorcia Segmenta, a hood and having two roman gladius(es?) strapped to your back.
