-Restrictions on where you can/can't go. "Not available during current memory!" warnings coupled with screen fuzz and orange discoloration in a game you're playing because you want to be an ocean explorer. Oh God, the fun.
I have seen a few of these, they only show up when you are doing a mission that is in a specific area. If you want to explore, kill and plunder, then do it, just do not do the main mission, other then that there are no restrictions. I never understood the memory sequence thing.

I really think you're exaggerating. Sure, there are some useless features, but not enough to make it a bad game.

Only a couple of those, mostly during missions and otherwise mission related. Don't exaggerate.

-Glitches that prevent you from advancing to your next main story mission. Bonus points for using the aforementioned bullshit location restrictions in order to enact these.
Never ran into a single one. YMMV.

-A feedback feature that shows there is no limit to the amount of insecurity Triple A companies have about their unfinished, but nevertheless released products.
Read into it what you will, but don't make it bigger than it is. It's really no bother. Black Flag is proof that they listened.

-Bugged assassination missions where you can't complete your objective, leaving a big red dot on your already crowded interface showing you just how far away you are from a goal you aren't allowed to fulfill.
Never had that happen once. From what I hear easily fixable. Again YMMV.

-A sign in screen for yet another sign-up community service nobody gives a fuck about and nobody asked for.
Fair enough. I don't like having to be online for the fleet management stuff. And especially annoying when the servers are borked. Also, UPlay can burn.

-Loads of pop-up notifications about community features that again, I DON'T CARE ABOUT.
Can't you just turn them off?

This game has
a.) A fascinating and overdue world/premise for a game
b.) Charismatic characters and fun gameplay
c.) Undeniable proof that the people behind it have their heads positively buried in their collective asses.

Excluding the AC mythos attached to the game which takes you out of your element periodically--which I think sucks, but hey--the game has the following immersion destroying features:

-Restrictions on where you can/can't go. "Not available during current memory!" warnings coupled with screen fuzz and orange discoloration in a game you're playing because you want to be an ocean explorer. Oh God, the fun.

-Glitches that prevent you from advancing to your next main story mission. Bonus points for using the aforementioned bullshit location restrictions in order to enact these.

This isn't goddamn Farmville. I'm not on Facebook. I want to play a game where I'm a pirate. I want to get in a big fucking boat and sail around exploring and robbing people. I don't want to give you feedback. I don't want to hear about the awesome features of the UPlay "service" that "everyone is talking about." I don't want to play 3 hours, then check back every few days afterward to see if you've developed a patch for your piece of shit overhyped uninspired cash cow.

Ubisoft: PISS OFF.
And the people just lap it up like sludge from a trough. It never ceases to amaze me how people didn't just get sick of the formula after about an hour. However here are actually people out there who look forward to playing the exact same, tired, uninteresting, poorly written crap year after year, they exist, in droves. My question is why did you even support this company? You know that they only make drivel for simpletons now, the old UbiSoft is long dead.

I really like the game, but he only thing it's told me is that i'm actually really sick of the assassination aspect and all the future stuff which bores me to tears. I love all the sailing and ship battles but the faffing about with all the collectables and random jobs just seem less fun. So my main question is: are there any sort of free-roam piracy games about?
sid meier's pirates is a neat little game, very addictive for a while, although it has been a few years since I've played it so I'm not so sure how well it has aged.

This couldn't be more wrong, be more wrong because of the fact that the only other game which are as open as it are mainly rpgs. So in conclusion i would assume that you must hate all games that have any restrictions on where you go. Some of these include call of duty, halo, blacklist, and all other games that don't let you wander off to krypton

I'm playing it on PS4.

So far I've been having loads of fun, sailing is fun, being a pirate is fun, doing all those assassin things are fun. I haven't had a thing to personally complain about and have no run into any of the issues you have so far.

Really my only wish is to stop being removed from my awesome Pirate game to talk to french people in the future?its a bit annoying.

It does feel a LOT like Assassin's Creed 2, which is the only other game in the series I have played, but I suppose it makes sense it would be similar. I'm loving the whole upgrade my ship aspect and I've gotten really good at dodging those stupid ramming frigates out in the ocean. Nothing really compares to seeing a boat on the horizon, attacking it, boarding it?leaping down from the top of their ship to stab some dudes and loot the all the goods, its all super fun.

The one thing I honestly don't care about is the U-Link shit, no I'm not signing up for yet ANOTHER online service?I simply don't care. I already have PSN+, use that Unisoft, I don't want or need YOUR system for anything.

Really though I have no complaints, its been a really great game so far, best thing to do on the PS4 right now actually.

I hated every Assassin's Creed after 2 but Black Flag is a fucking amazing game. Going around as a pirate raiding ships is the most fun I've had in a game this year by far. Also the level design in the missions is absolutely top-notch. If you hated most Assassin's Creed games then I recommend giving this one a shot, it's a very good game.

This guy gets it.

Seriously I can't emphasize enough just how fun the naval battles and ship boarding are.

My only problem with AC4 is the sword combat. Does it seem really buggy/glitchy in this one to anyone else? All kinds of weird random animation glitches, clipping glitches and such. I've always seen some of this stuff in assasins creed's combat, but it seems way worse in this game. Aside from that I really like the game, the naval combat stuff is great. This is the first AC game where I actually care about doing a lot of the side mission stuff.

That happened exactly once for me. Half the Caribbean is locked out during the first half of the game. It opens up during the second half. Big deal.

Don't recall any.

-A feedback feature that shows there is no limit to the amount of insecurity Triple A companies have about their unfinished, but nevertheless released products.
Ignore it.

Never happened to me.

Disable them.
